Greg P Taking A Break

Postby The_Noble_Cause » Sun Jan 04, 2026 5:11 am

Greg Phillinganes is stepping away. His IG announcement is below. With Dave and Steve P. out, I can't think of anyone better. I wonder if Dennis Atlas will fill both roles.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

On this date, exactly 2 years ago, Luke called me and asked, ”What are you doing for the next (fill in the blank) years?” And just like that, I was back in Toto.

The past two years have been quite the ride with highs, lows and everything in between. Played 3 of my favorite venues: the Hollywood Bowl, Forum and Pine Knob. Witnessed hundreds of thousands of blissful fans from all over Europe, Australia, New Zealand, South America, Mexico and the good ole US…all of which I’m forever grateful for.
This year, however, I’m feeling strongly led in a different direction. For this reason, I have decided to step away from the band so I can be more present in the lives of my family.

Toto has been, is and always will be a unique band of supremely talented musicians playing the highest quality of music spanning multiple genres. I am extremely proud to be a part of their legacy of almost 50 years. Our motto is “Brothers for life” and I love these brothers to my core.

Sounds like a very amicable departure and a very worthy close to Greg's time with the band. It seemed like it ended on a sour note back in 2008.

Wonder who will step in. I am guessing a meat and potato keyboardist who can also play a bit of guitar, which could open the door for a few tunes we haven't heard live since Tony Spinner was in the band (such as Mad about You, which is a Joe Williams/Paich co-write after all and one we've never heard Joe sing).

Thanks for posting. Surprisingly, this has not popped up on my FB feed, so you’re the first to tell me.

Someone on The Noticeboard claims that multi-instrumentalist, Rai Thistlethwayte, from Hagar's current band, has the gig. Very talented guy. We'll see.

I think the door is always open for Greg to come back.

Interesting as I saw Phillinganes is going to tour with Hagar this year.
