Tommy Note 11-27-05

I'll have to comment later, have to finish with the Christmas lights.
I'm glad to hear that he'll have the time to catch up on his sleep.
Hello Friends,
This is actually a note from home, now that we've officially
concluded our 1999 tour. For years since then we kept a tally of how
many hundreds of shows it had been. We've since lost count.
We came out of the chute in July of 1999 knowing that we had
something to prove. To prove to you that we did not take lightly what
we had done, rebuilding the band from the ground floor, literally
pulling it out of the ashes after the disintegration that occurred in
1997 when we realized that we really had come to an impasse. As a
patient, STYX as we knew it had died on the operating table and the
only hope was to replace a vital organ, literally! When we awakened
we were more full of life than ever and ready to continue our mission-
-to take our music to fans all over the world, to bring that unique
feeling that is STYX to fans old and new and to let them know that
they could now depend upon us to keep the STYX flame burning as long
as we can still put one foot in front of the other. In July of 1999
on stage in Branson, MO., you made it perfectly clear that you felt
the same as us, and that was all we needed to know. Since then we
have performed more live shows for you than we did in the previous 20
years.
As we finished up in Merillville, Indiana, it was difficult not to
let the experience wash over us. During "Crystal Ball" I was overcome
by it, thinking about that first night back stage, as we all were,
wondering if you'd accept us, and now here we were hundreds of
amazing shows later, well it was just too much for me. I had to stop
and get it off my chest before I could continue. I will try and not
make a habit out of that!
From the center stage microphone JY thanked his 87 year old mom Leona
and had her stand up and wave from her front row balcony seat. She
done good with that boy. He's been the heart and soul of this band
from the day he set foot on their stage BEFORE they became known as
STYX. It was JY who quarterbacked their getting signed to a recording
contract for the first time, a position he's held ever since then.
I was in a recording studio with legendary producer Richard Perry and
a couple of friends a few nights ago here in Los Angeles, listening
to various things he's produced over the years, and we got into a
discussion about our song list on Big Bang Theory and as I ran down
the titles, he said, "Well you certainly had good taste in the songs
you chose..." which led me to playing perhaps my favorite track on
the CD, "A Salty Dog" for him. It made my day to get such a positive
reaction from this soft spoken giant in the recording industry.
Now real life has come calling as we all reacquaint ourselves with
life off the road. For me it's the realities of overdue visits to the
doctor, dentist, and about the time all that's finished, jury duty!
I've been unable to do my civic duty for years now because of my
schedule, but I've cleared my calendar and am ready for service first
thing in December.
Once all that's behind me, for the first time in years, I believe
there are dates in my calendar with not even a pencil mark! I'm
hoping this is true for all my band mates as well as our crew.
Don't worry, the STYX engine is still running, even thought it's only
idling. It really never stops now, and doesn't overheat because it's
so well-maintained. It will be revving for action in 2006 before you
know it. Until then, have a safe, fun, peaceful and happy holiday
season.
Love to you all,
TS
