And I doubt people are as clueless as you think.
I'm writing about the majority of people I see at a concert. Most of them see the concert advertised and go buy tickets. They don't get on message boards or pay much attention to the fleeting exposure Styx or DDY get on TV. Most of them never attempt to get on a Styx message board. Several probably visit Styxworld.com but you don't get any gossip or dirt there.
I'll make a prediction right now: Niether Styx or DDY in their current forms will ever again experience any type of major commercial success selling recordings in the United States. The time for relevance has passed. Both will get minor media buzz because they are minor pop culture figures. Both will be on TV once in a while when the talking heads want us to revisit the nastalgia.
There are two ways the members of Styx or DDY will ever experience major success:
1. They reform with DDY, put the past behind them, lock themselves in a studio TOGETHER, and cut a GREAT album. Keep in mind when I write GREAT it doesn't mean BNW (because BNW sucked). Great means another Grand Illusion or Pieces of Eight. (This scenerio probably will never happen)
2. If the members of Styx, particularly Tommy Shaw, engage in a side project that got lucky. Tommy would have the best shot at this if for instance Damn Yankees reformed and made a decent album. Dennis could probably do it too if he found someone to collaborate with who is relevant today ala Santana and Rob Thomas. Todd is good enough and young enough that he could probably catch on with a current or up-and-coming group and ride that train.
