Regarding Styx' future plans Gowan said, "This tour goes on until October, and we have had one of the highest-grossing amphitheater tours this summer. Every night we played for a sold-out crowd. We have 75 more shows to go. We are loving this current mission that we are on. In November, we will be doing a tour in my country, Canada, and I am very much looking forward to that, of course. Then, we will be headed back in to the studio."

A few things, Mr. Gowan

1. The crowds aren't there to see Styx. You aren't the headliner.

2. Studio - yeah, right...I'll believe it when I see it. If you hit the studio, it will be out of your own pocket, b/c last time i checked, you all don't have a record deal and goodness knows that JY and TS wouldn't want to rob the profits from this "top grossing tour" to put into a record that maybe 2000 people will buy.


3. You should go into politics - you are a master at spin.

Several points here. Whether you like it or not, it seems that their touring has been successful and profitable. Since that is the case, I doubt any of them are losing sleep that they aren't the headliners. To be so, would be foolish and more then likely cause the band to lose money. As far as not having a record deal, I'm sure they are not losing sleep over that one either. They certainly aren't focused on putting out a steady stream of new material. In the world of reality, except for a handful of fans no one is looking or waiting for new material from them. Same goes for DDY as well. There's no money in releasing new material anyway. At least for the current Styx and DDY.They are not acts that are lucky enough to have a large fan base interested in new material. I would guess what they will do is record a few songs and release an e.p. on itunes. The point is, they have been successful in touring for long time. They have found a formula that works for them. Some may not like it or even care at this point but that doesn't change the fact that they are still making money without DDY being a part of it.

true that they aren't headliners but they certainly help the draw......and that's the point.....none of those bands, including the headliner can carry a major shed tour anymore without it being a package.......and since package tours are now the current successful business model I would say that is it is legitimate for all of the bands on the package tour to feel like they are contributing considerably to the success of the ticket sales. pretty much a no brainer on that.

as for new music......i've about given up hope, but I would be happy if they did make some new music, assuming they put maximum effort into it. as for who is paying for the studio time, that is 100% a non-factor.....tommy has a studio more than capable of enough of putting our record quality material, so why pay anyone for studio time, whether it is the band or a record company willing to sign them? I wouldnt, so why should they?

just get Jack Blades to write a song for them.
and if I opened up for Leppard with a kazoo it would still be a successful tour.
If this is what Gowan really thinks Styx might want to do a Journey Youtube move and get a new singer.

And, this is absolutely accurate. I just saw the show this past weekend and all three bands put on a hell of a show. To say people were not there to see Styx is just so inaccurate, it is essentially a lie. The song that the crowd sang along to the loudest, by a LOT of decibels, was "Come Sail Away". Maybe it's not this way on every stop on the tour, but it was on Saturday night. And, I love the ending where they pull out a bit of "One With Everything"...the crowd even roared at that, probably thinking they were going to hear the full song.

The bottom line is this tour was good for the band and if they think they can capitalize on it by releasing some new songs, good for them.

I also agree about iTunes...and have said that for a LONG time. The cost of recording a song and putting it on iTunes is so small that using $'s as an excuse for not doing it just doesn't make sense any longer. It's all about motivation and taking the time to do it. Recording and releasing a full CD to retail is completely different.

You're right...the tour with Journey proved that.

Bottom line if they weren't making money they wouldn't be touring. Just like us with our jobs. If we don't make money we look for another job. It makes sense to tour with other classic bands. I would love to see another "Evening" show but would enjoy a package deal with Foreigner or Bad Co any time.

I do hope that they get back into the studio. I can see JY not wanting to get back in the studio but Tommy and Gowen I bet want to make some new music, even Todd would be excited I bet. I wish I could remember but I heard Tommy wants to make a new solo album mainly Americana songs but it shows he wants to be creative and didn't Gowen just come out with solo work?

Yes they wont sell like they used to but to be a viable, creative band you think they would. I hope we do hear something new from them even if its a single but I would love to buy a new CD from them. I cant buy any more live cd,s .

I bet they could find a record deal if they wanted too. Didn't Dennis get a offer for a new album, anyone know if he is following up on that?

Dennis keeps mentioning the Frontiers offer but hasn't indicated if he is going to do it. It seems he is on the fence about it. He has said that people would be expecting something just like OYFN and he doesn't know if can or wants to do that. He said he does have some songs written but they are all over the place in terms of style. The other thing is that he tends to only work on writing music when he has a goal in mind. So it remains to be seen if he is going to do it. As far as the current Styx goes, I can't see them putting in the time to do a full album of material. I think they are mainly looking to strike while the iron is still hot. Which means doing shows takes priority over anything else.
