OT: Face 2 Face Tour

Postby weatherman90 » Tue May 05, 2009 11:51 am

Has anyone else been to one of the Elton John/Billy Joel Face 2 Face concerts this spring?

On a last minute note I found out that I would be able to cover the May 2 show in Fargo. It was a tremendous performance, I was really blown away. They both haven't lost a thing vocally, and Billy Joel in particular really brings it with showmanship.

I've got the live CD. That's it though. I'd kinda rather see both of them on their own, especially EJ. There's just too much good shit for him to cover when he's sharing a bill.

That's true, there is no end to the different set lists they could come up with. The show does last 3 1/2 hours though, so they were each able to play over a dozen songs, in addition to about a dozen songs together.

Don't know about Billy Joel but Elton John is not half the vocalist he used to be.

I would love to see Billie play the entire "The Stranger" album at a show.

Elton lost his voice during his 1986 tour of Australia; his vocals on the live album recorded with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in Sydney during that tour are rough, to say the least. He had surgery to remover several benign polyps less than a month later.

I've seen Elton several times since then, and although I think the man still kicks ass, the polyps (and, in part, the surgery to remove them) robbed him of his trademark falsetto, which forced him to drastically change his delivery of many of his best-known songs.
