I don't know that most felt betrayed by Neal. I know I and a lot of others around here were not left with a feeling of betrayal by Neal after watching the BTM. I will just leave my comments at that

This just simply isn't true. Once upon a time I went on the Prodigy Journey forum and said Journey should move on with Chalfant cuz Perry obviously wanted nothing to do with the band. THAT caused a HUGE blowup...around 1993 or so.

The bottom line is that for MANY Perry fans, it is an absolute sin to criticize anything related to Perry, and that he IS Journey. To say otherwise can cause a landslide of criticism from Perry fans. Their vocal numbers have dwindled a bit over the years...but it has ALWAYS been there.

The same can be said about BT and Augeri.

The same can be said about MR and JSS.

Hey dumbshits.....yeah, those bitching because Journey's site has NO concert clips or does any PR...

There is a reason for that. Have you forgotten that Steve Augeri can't fucking sing? It's kind of hard to advertise yourselves in any way shape or form, when you have to hide your point man. They probably wanted NO PR or NO advertising whatsoever. Think about it.

Now, with JSS, I can assure you Mgt has his ear on things and what they can and should do.

Even before that, I found out there was a group of Journey fan writers who did fan-fiction porn fantasies about Steve Perry....

I remember these posts on Journey-L...It was right around the time of the Perry FTLOSM tour....where someone was posting these fantasy stories with Perry and Neal...set in medievil times....riding unicorns and knights fighting dragons for journey's honor and....well you get the idea.

I remember at the time going "This is completely effin nuts!"

I remember thinking the same thing.

One thing about this...

I believe ChrisPV wrote those posts. I don't have a problem with her at all. When people complained about those posts on the list, she took her story off the list and did her own thing. She is still a member of the Journey mailing list and would probably agree with much of what has been said here.

Let me tell about some things that ARE "completely nuts":

Back in 1992-1994, when I was on Prodigy, someone started posting and making a big deal about something called "PSL of A"...as if you were not REALLY a fan unless you knew what it was. So, this chick who was in this 'clique' I was a part of dreamt up this elaborate plan to befriend the "PSL of A" person, earn her trust, and get a copy of "PSL of A".

The first thing that went through my mind is that I wanted nothing to do with 'cliques' any longer because they have their share of backstabbing liars, as the above shows. The next thing is I found out, through a third party that I trusted, exactly what "PSL of A" was and read a bit of it. As she said (funny how all these people are women, huh?) it represented the worst of Journey fandom, and she was absolutely correct.

"PSL of A" stands for, "Portuguese Sausage Lovers of America". It was/is a fanzine of pornographic fantasies centered around Steve Perry. Basicaly, subscribers could write their fantasies about Perry, mail them in and have them published and shared to the rest of the subscribers.

Nowadays, I probably wouldn't be suprised by that at all...But, back then, I was pretty suprised that people were THAT into Steve Perry. Not only were they writing their fantasies down, but they actualy shared them with others so they could all get off on them together. Just, very, very weird. I'm sure it happens today...and I still think it's weird.

So, that, IMO, is 'completely nuts'. Steve Perry riding a unicorn is a bit innocent, IMO. Unless, of course, Steve Perry is REALLY 'riding' a unicorn. LOL.

I remember Meanie, Monker and I think Barb too, but that was a long time ago. I definitely remember it being shutdown a couple of times with Mike saying he had enough and then it starting back up again.

I remember a certain person popping up on the board that had ties to the band. He had responded to someone claiming the band was using background tracks or something...too long ago to remember exactly. A few posts later after several hints, we figured it out that it was Allen Craft.

I remember when the board morphed over to the Journey site and how it seemed cool at first then became just a pain to filter through all the talk about clothes and hair. I haven't posted on there in years and only visit on an occassion. Overmoderated or whatever else, I just didn't care anymore.

Mike - You thinking about starting up another Journey board? :D

Terry, what was your screen name on Skylord's board? I was "Barbie" there. Wasn't there also a crazy ass chick there named Becky or Rebecca?

Just for the record, I've never liked fan fiction. I think it's insulting unless it's done publicly for light hearted entertainment like Stella's "Behind the Messageboard" saga on VH1.

I remember the Towanda controversy about the hacking of her computer. It caused quite a stir as I recall. I think I may have met her as Becky when I first came on line looking for info on Perry, but never really knew her that well.

And you know something? I'd be willing to bet, in no small part, that is why Perry is no longer in the music business. Who would want to deal with that? When you're between 20 and 40, sure...assuming you're not married...but once you get older (and the women get older and subsequently, saggier) why on earth would you want that kind of attention. Perry is probably enjoying private life enough where he realizes that if he went back to singing (either for journey or solo) he would get inundated with these 50-something whackos that will go right back to writing sausage stories about him.

It's not a stretch to say that these psycho-women are partially to blame for Perry not singing right now....and they're the ones that will guiltlessly slice up a basket full of kittens if they could have him back....strange, ironic, sick...

I believe this is what drove Linc Brewster into contemporary Christian music! In an interview a while back, he talked about how he saw these women worshipping Perry like a God, grabbing for any piece of clothing or anything, and Brewster thinking that there had to be more importance to life than that.

The truth doesn't sting me  I'm totally on board with why he doesn't want to do anything. I think your wording is hilarious in how you describe these gals. (Just because one likes/loves Perry and is female doesn't make them lunatics, we aren't ALL nuts for nuts.)

In strangegrey's defense, he has said (and said repeatedly) that the majority, NOT EVERYBODY (there or here for that matter) just most of the people who speak online of Perry/Augeri/JSS in disgusting ways are oversexed females late '30s-early '50s. He has said it is not ENTIRELY the case, but mostly. He has also said it's not everybody at BT or here.

Well, wouldn't it be "under-sexed and not oversexed?" He doesn't need defending, he's doing quite nicely holding up all on his own. I can't think of one female artist that has this problem with male attention, but perhaps there is one. Maybe Streisand

And, that is exactly why I'll agree with him...and the fact that he names nobody and is very generic. THAT is different then condemning an entire forum and everybody on it.

I don't know who these Portuguese Sausage Lovers of America are - haven't come across anything like that & that's the first I've heard that title! I don't care for fan fiction either or talking about his "Jimmy Dean" - I'm sure there is some innocent Harlequin romance type stuff, but I read a very weird disturbed thing that scared me! I certainly don't blame SP for going into hiding from the deranged, but NOT ALL female fans are like that! He did meet some of them at the Star last May & he enjoyed it - StrungOut (Deb) was one of them (I wish I had been). It's hard for me to understand the crazed way some fans act - or the jealousy and stuff - weird.

Sure Monks
the facts are what they are.

I'm an Eagles fan. I consider myself a level headed and sane individual but I know full well too many Eagles fans are not.
I know it's pissing in the wind to try and change the broader perception of Eagles fans.
But I also know that those that share that broader and prolly accurate perception realize that some Iggles Zealots are normal people. Kinda just goes w/ out saying.

Oversexed/Undersexed....isn't it all just logistics?

I'm implying that there's some level of disfunction of a sexual nature. If the woman in question (lets assume that this is mostly a hetero situation) can't get enough of it...and has to suplement it with a Portoguese Sausage obsession  ..or the woman in question doesn't get it at all and is ever-governed by the PS fantasy....does it really matter?

Now THAT is BULLSHIT.

Most Iggles fans wouldn't entertain such a notion unless/until they felt ASSURED of a Lombardi trophy.

HAHAHAHA....Then they'd not only eat their young, but invite the relatives over for dinner, right? ;)

They may or may not be taken into account but I haven’t been thrown out yet. LOL. However, CJ is more astute than you give her credit for. There are plans in progress for a revamp of the site so maybe we ought to wait to see what happens.

Likewise there are people actively posting on BT (eg Knox, JourneyMojo and others) who are offering dissenting views, but they do so courteously and intelligently. They haven’t been silenced.

Marty, it would be nice to see a revamp and upgrade on the official site...how 'bout getting rid of "The Nomota Family" moniker? Some of us Perry fans don't like it. If not, then better alter it to read, "The Nomotalippin' Family"!

I signed onto BT in '04 and I've watched many intelligent fair threads get locked just because of the trouble makers - too many sarcastic remarks & "popcorn icons" thrown in. It was never friendly to Perry fans & yes, I will admit there were a bunch of Perry fan trouble makers (I was never one of them)...the site wants to ignore Perry's huge contribution to the band - you hardly see anything about him in the history blurb! In fact, read the ridiculous below from the official site:

"Journey’s initial style was progressive jazz-rock, complete with extended and improvised solo spots, a style much in evidence on their first three albums for Columbia Records. In April 1975 Tickner bowed out of music to attend Stanford Medical School. He was eventually replaced by ex-Alien Project vocalist, Steve Perry (following a brief tenure by Robert Fleischman)."

It was definitely a Pro Augeri forum (you could obviously sense the mods were biased)...remains to be seen what it will be like next with JSS. Funny, how I remember pruning time & people were asked to bring up old threads that they liked...About a year or more ago, I brought up JSS's thread about his meeting with SP and praising SP and...surprise... it was deleted the next day! Wonder why?
Anyway, BT has some good people & good points - I don't trash it. I did wonder why all the breaking news was coming from MR instead of the official site...that is what brought me over here.
BTW, who wrote JSS new bio? Did he or did he approve of it? Curious about something.

You know, I almost fell out of my chair when I read the use of the word 'Nomota' on the site...For the longest time, I was under the impression, obviously mistaken, that the meaning of the word and subsequently its use was to be kept quiet.

This is the interesting dilhema that BT has right now. As marty has said, the band does give some direction to moderation. This happened moreso after I was gone...as I never really heard something along the lines of "Neal wants all the Perry threads shut down asap"....Regardless, you couldn't deny the fact that there was a definite Anti-Perry undertone to the moderation...sometimes very strong...

The dilhema for BT, is that the if the moderators are forced to quell the growing group of unhappy Augeri fans...they will lose some credibility. How can you, for years and years, show an obvious bias against Perry fans...only to be forced to do it again towards the very fans you 'protected' for years and years.

If the band keeps the messsage board up and running, it'll be interesting to see how the mods handle that.
