OMG Mcneil u have stooped to a new all-time low. I cannot believe u ripped on Jeremey about his looks. He is one of the good guys of this forum who never says anything bad to anyone. Plus he gives us the honest & (on this forum) gutsy opportunity of listening to his incredible voice. FWIW I think Jeremey is handsome & sexy. Watching him sing those songs & strut around the stage is thrilling to me. I'd give anything to see him live. Who died & made u Journey-god? No offense to Jeremey (b/c I know he's been doing this a long time too) but Jeff is a professional who has earned a living in the music biz for more than 20 yrs. U cannot make comparisons. FYI I believe Jeremey talked openly about the fact that he & his band brought down the Journey songs a bit at some point so as not to kill his voice. Bless him for admitting that. But there again is another reason u can't sit on ur high horse making comparisons.


I can also tell u that when I compare Jeremey singing a Journey song like EOTB & Jeff singing it, I prefer Jeff's version from the boots I heard. I haven't had the ability to compare directly every song they both sing b/c the boots aren't out there for them all for either guy. But I suspect I might prefer Jeremey's versions sometimes & Jeff's at others. & I bet if I heard many boots of the same songs, I'd go back & forth. B/c this is LIVE & it's not the same every nite.

I agree with what you're saying here. I think Augeri had his own vibe, he wasn't a Perry clone, but could clearly cover the old material well. To be straight, I think most fans expect to hear the classic material that sounds something like the original. How about doing more Perry style vocals on classic material and then more of your own groove going forward? "Believe in Me" has the right vibe in my mind with your groove on vocals. I think that approach would make most folks happy. I have no issue with change going forward but there is an expectation of what the classics should sound like.

On the other hand, I do try to uphold the Perry/Journey sound, meaning hitting some of the grammar & articulation that comes very easy in singing these songs (because singing them otherwise doesn't sound 'right' to me) but if I did a mere impersonation, I'd be nothing more than what SA was accused of for so many years, which I personally think he sounds like Perry as much as Neal does! SA had his own thing that he put into the Journey sound, it was his natural tone & range that fooled some into thinking he was identical to SP. There is & will only be one Perry, let's cherish that instead of expecting someone to continue with the band by merely clonng it, shall we?

McNEIL. I totally agree with you. For me, it's all about the voice of the music. Jeremey has a perfect way of expressing his voice to Journey music, and would be pretty interesting and cool to see him land the gig if all comes to worst. Looks like he's capable of bringing the swagger back to the sound of Journey. That's why I'm in favor of Augeri making his comeback, simply because he was the voice for 8 years now, and has the right sound to him for the job. JSS has a great voice, but only to certain kinds of music, christ, any kind of music, besides Journey. That's what seperated Journey from the rest was the voice of the lead singer, and JSS doesn't have those qualities to full fill. If JSS would ever do a Journey album, it won't sound like Journey. People who are not familiar with JSS would hear his voice and simply skip from song to song only because the Journey sound is what it is for a reason.
