It ain't pretty

Postby ttango1 » Mon Dec 29, 2008 5:22 pm

but I told you all that, because the AFC West division needed a winner, that the Chargers could still come out of the West and make the playoffs.

I ain't Nostradamus but I saw the Chargers winning the West. Does it suck that the 11-5 Patsies aren't in the playoffs? Well, the NFL sets the playoff structure and that's how it played out. It ain't the first time this happened. Back in 1985 the Broncos suffered the same fate.

The Colts are a 1 point Road Favorite. Chargers offense seems to be clicking at the right time and the Defensive adjustments from Ron Rivera, who took over for the too-damn conservative Ted Cottrell, who got fired after the bye-week, are resulting in pressure on the QB and turnovers. It's the same plan the Bolts had last year going in and that got them to the AFC Championship.

I thought 9-7 but 8-8 and in...that's all that matters.

Anyone who followed SD knows they were within a C hair of extinction. At KC, down what, 11 with 2 mins to go, they win that? Man, they just might be a team of destiny. Win against Indy, and there is nothing they can't do. Take out one of the elite teams, get one road win from say Tennessee, and I know they can beat Pittsburgh.

Ahem... The DOLPHINS won the AFC EAST by virtue of a better CONFERENCE RECORD. They were 8-4 within the AFC, whereas the Patsies were 7-5.

I couldn't be more proud of my Miami Dolphins and what they achieved this year. As far as I'm concerned, it's all gravy from here. I'd like to see them give Baltimore a good run this week and see what happens. I expected maybe 4 or 5 wins this year, but the Phins have outperformed all the way!

Except back in 1985, there were fewer teams who made the playoffs, so the Broncos were competing for fewer playoff positions. This is the first time since the NFL moved to a 12 team playoff format that an 11-5 team has missed the playoffs, so it's highly unusual. On another note, I am somewhat shocked that Indy is only a 1 point favorite. I think the oddsmakers are being brainwashed by San Diego's good play as of late and not considering the teams they beat. It certainly should be a good and high scoring game but I'll be stunned if San Diego beats the Colts. At the end of the day, San Diego is still a VERY average 8-8 team who won the shittiest division in football. I say the Colts roll them by at least two touchdowns.

Congrats to the Vikes, Angie.

Anyone else read about this and laugh? "According to multiple media reports, Romo suffered a rib injury late in the game and collapsed in the shower after. He had to be helped to his feet by teammates." I have a feeling he took a sympathy dive. Seems like bullshit to me. He probably fumbled the soap and fell over trying to pick it up. After all, it is December.

No way. Romo has good character, and a clean past. He doesn't go out and fake it. He is not their biggest problem. If you ask me, Phillips, Owens and others are the principle problems, even Jones.

I don't see it that way. The guy went to fucking Cabo last year rather than being with his teammates. And remember, this is the year after he couldn't hold a place kick and blew the previous season. Great way to show your teammates that you're ready to make ammends...partying it up with Jessica Simpson. That's an "I" player. Now to this year. What a buffoon. 2 huge fumbles, a pick, no TD passes and under 200 yards passing. Philly has a good D, but those stats are reflective of an annual choke artist. The dude seems like a nice guy, but he's a shitty teammate and an annual NFL loser. He has not shown up for the playoffs in 3 years and it's time to hold him acountable. No wonder he hangs out with homeless guys...his teammates probably hate him.

Plain and simple, Romo is a complete Joker. Mix that in with a selfish piece of shit, home-wrecker receiver that is B.O T.O, and an owner that worries more about being on camera than he does managing and there you have a complete over-rated, over-hyped, average team that still thinks it's the 90's that still thinks they are called America's Team.

Along with Sperm, how does Mike McCarthy still have work? I love this guy, John Gruden, but how does Chucky keep his gig? They were 8-3, 1st seed bound and the Raiders did them in their own crib!

I think the teams that suck so bad year in and year out is because of management getting rid of head coaches too early only because of a losing season, or because of a couple bad years. Teams are built through the draft, not free agency, and coaches that are plugged in simply need more than 3 or 4 years for that to be taken into effect.

What GM's do these days is get an itchy ass way too soon. They break the formula and quit on their head coaches only after a few losing seasons and the process continues. If they stick to one coach and give it a long-term shot then maybe their franchise won't be a laughing stock.

Some have back luck, and some don't. It's the NFL. It changes every SECOND. Look at Miami, Baltimore, and Atlanta. They lucked out of having a 1 good season of rookie head coaches. Next year, they could fall right back down to the pits of earths soil, or they can continue the stride.

Cowher lost 2 AFC Championships, and 1 Superbowl leading up to the 1998 season. He had losing seasons in 98-'00, missing the playoffs in each and The Rooney's stuck by him and pegged them as their coach signing him to extensions. You pick a guy and you ride him out.

Life in the NFL will be bumpy for head coaches, but after 2 or 3 bad ones you can't just shit can. Stick it out and build as a franchise and good things may come.

Mangini blew it this year and seemed to have everything in his lap at 8-3. He had 2 winning seasons in his first 2 years. And he gets canned for it.

Good luck with that mentality. The Jets just lost a good coach by having itchy asses.

The Raiders situation is too easy.

Al Davis still thinks it's the 70's, and he is simply past his time. The organization he built is no organization at all. He doesn't let them be an organization. He wants to run the team through management, and not only head coach, but also through the entire coaching staff. He thinks he is a one man show, and he doesn't let his assistants take control of their jobs. He is a selfish piece of shit that is only in it for the mega-millions, and doesn't give a shit about his staff or players.

Al Davis even makes Jerry Jones look like the messiah of the Pig-skin. Atleast Jones gives a shit about his players and staff.

I would include Gruden and Shanahan on the Raiders' coaching carousel. Hell, Shanahan didn't even last a season and a half. Gruden stuck it out 3 seasons. The Raiders have been a revolving door since the days of Tom Flores, with the exception of Art Shell's first run of 5 seasons. The problem with the Raiders has never been one of coaching. They are a shit organization who thinks they're far more relevant than they actually are. You could say the same exact thing about the Fraud Boys. Very poor management who doesn't have a freakin' clue!

Al Davis permeates throughout the entire management structure. Great organizations like the Patriots and Steelers let the people hired do what they were hired to do. There's no double-crossing and no treachery. There is a clearly defined hierarchy that works together and doesn't put up with "I" players. The Patriots are the perfect model for any franchise to follow. You haven't heard a fucking peep out of Randy Moss since he joined that team because I'm sure it was quite apparent upon his arrival that if you are anything other than a team player the rest of the team will do this to you while you're sleeping  :

It's being reported that Bill Cowher won't even talk to the Jets or Browns about their coaching vacancies. Looks like he's waiting for Jerry Jones to make him an enormous offer. It's just a matter of time.

Edit: He is willing to talk to the Jets.

He's earned that right, and I would hardly call that cluster fuck that hasn't won a playoff game in 13 years an "established" anything. Established mediocrity maybe. Hell, even that quitter Barry Sanders won a few playoff games.

13. Bill Cowher
Longevity. That's not a word you associate with NFL head coaches these days, but Bill Cowher has earned his years in Pittsburgh, turning his trademark snarl and spit into Super Bowl victory. Cowher has coached the Steelers since 1992 and has a career record of 138-86-1, has only three losing seasons under his watch, and is just the second head coach to lead his team to the playoffs his first six seasons. Bill Cowher is also the first coach selected to be on the cover of NFL Head Coach.

Jack off?

And no, hes not waiting for a big offer. Hes waiting for his Daughter to finish school and he won't be taking any coaching jobs this year.

You are both right. check this out from FOX Sports:

I'd like to believe that a battered Romo simply wasn't himself when addressing the media at an interview podium inside Lincoln Financial Field. He had collapsed in the shower just minutes earlier. He spoke with glassy eyes and an uneven speech pattern. I'm also aware Romo often sounds more like a laid-back follower than a leader even when clear-headed, which isn't how quarterbacks are supposed to act.

Still, even by Romo's standards, he sounded stunningly apathetic for a player whose reputation as a poor big-game performer took another hit with a three-turnover outing.

"I've had a lot worse happen to me than a loss in a sporting event, that's for sure," Romo said. "If this is the worst thing that ever happens to me, I've lived a pretty good life."

Somewhere, Troy Aikman is retching.
