They have to do that, though, because that is part of their target audience. If she hadn't talked like that then people would be wondering why she didn't "reach out" to those people.

i'd just kill to see a politician talk w/o cliches and generalizations off a hallmark card.

and for the love of god please put an election program in place where each side gets to ban 1 word from the other parties use and "we the people" can ban 2 more and if they use those words they must donate $10k per word to the other parties election fund.

no more maverick, or change from this person.

I know I know. Subtlety is often lost on these candidates though. I think Palin probably did a good job of doing reaching those people anyway, both were just beatin us over the head with it. I'm just trying to look at both performances as unbiased as I can be, as I wouldn't touch the Obama-Biden ticket myself.

Agreed. Got sick of Palin running off the soundbytes (maverick, hockey mom, blah blah blah). her voice sounds like the secretary in Ferris Bueller's day off. Great to look at but no experience. Loved the "What do I have, 5 weeks experience" [paraphrased] remark. No kidding.

AND IT'S NU-CLEEEE-ER NOT NUCULAR. Jesus, does nobody coach these aholes? If you can't even say the word, I have doubts about how much you know about the topic.

whatever way we look at it, we're probably f'd.

I'm LOL at you guys...who coached Biden? Nobody has ever kicked Hezbollah out of Lebanon Joe. Not the United States. Nor France. Not Israel. And not the Lebanese.

Heard on another site:

Lipstick -vs- Dipstick

"these aholes" was all inclusive.
I don't claim to know my Middle Eastern history, so I have no idea about that stuff and I'd guess that 85% of America doesn't either. All this horseshit about getting out from foriegn oil and energy- that will NEVER NEVER happen. We have too much wrapped up in the those countries to ever get out of it. People who are saying we will get away from Foreign Oil are fooling themselves and lying to us.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

There's no way to even get a consensus on who won. All polls are so biased it's hilarious.

Listen Republican Finder...I could give a fuck what any polls say. There is no fucking way that 70% of people, who aren't Republican, thought that Puppet Palin won that debate! 70% is an overwhelming majority, and that debate wasn't a slam dunk win for either candidate! I can tell you that my perception of Puppet Palin isn't changed one iota, after watching that debate. Sure, she did better than most thought she would, but how could she not, given the ZERO expectations for her! It's not hard to reach the bar, when said bar is an 8th of an inch off the ground! She still looked very uncomfortable at times last night. Hell, her voice was quivering for half of the debate, when she spoke! She is a vacant person, who I wouldn't elect president of my high school class! This woman who you're defending couldn't even cite one fucking newspaper she reads, when being asked the direct question by Katie Couric three different times! It's not that difficult of a question! I find it interesting that not one Palin ass-kisser on this board has uttered one single word about any of the interviews this moron did with Katie Couric, and yet you're all pounding your chest because the dopey puppet didn't hyperventilate on stage last night! I guess it proves that even those who blindly follow politicians have nothing to say about the complete embarrassment the woman is!

Dear John the Yankee Commie -

It's a race now, buddy. She kicked ass last night - she appealed to the average American. Not the uppity Northeastern liberal. You all don't represent America. You may think you do, but you don't. And your boy now has a fight on his hands. So, maybe Hussein Obama and his other Marxist friends can consult some of their terrorist buddies and figure out a way to get the momentum back - because it has now swung to the other side.

NEITHER kicked ass and everything out there shows that. It was a draw if anything. It's also pretty inconsequential and will do nothing to 'bump' either candidate, though I would imagine a Palin nude poster would win the race for McCain.

It's only fitting that someone as fucking retarded as you are supports that moron Palin! As for the rest of your comment about "your boy"...again, you are a fucking moron! I can assure you that Barack Obama isn't my "boy", and he won't be getting my vote. I find the 70% number hard to believe. However, it's no less accurate than some other polls I've seen that claimed Biden easily won the debate.

I can tell you that my perception of Puppet Palin isn't changed one iota, after watching that debate. Sure, she did better than most thought she would, but how could she not, given the ZERO expectations for her! It's not hard to reach the bar, when said bar is an 8th of an inch off the ground!

Yes, she did much better than expected. However, there was a TON of pressure on her to perform well and she did. Even some more seasoned politicians would have folded under that pressure. She deserves credit where credit is due.

She is a vacant person, who I wouldn't elect president of my high school class!

She's no dummy. This is just a ridiculous assertion. You don't become governor of a state as a relatively unknown middle-class individual without being able to hold your own, intellectually speaking, with the so-called political elites.

I don't know if I commented here or not but I talked to my wife last night about the Couric interview and how just totally awkward that was. There's no doubt about it. However, your rhetoric is really becoming overwhelming. Everyone is a "dope", "ass-kisser", "fuckhead", etc., etc. I've tried to keep my own name-calling and rhetoric in check and have managed to do so for a while now but it's getting really difficult with some of the ridiculous, over-the-top crap you continue to spew.

The fact is this "moron, embarrassment" of a woman just held her own against a 30 year senator as you've said yourself. I think you're so P.O'd because you were expecting comedy gold and got something quite different. Keep your incorrect "perception", this is America where people are free to be racist, sexist and stupid. We know your from the northeast and not racist!

As I've already stated here, she did okay. Some are now turning into something it isn't (i.e. she smoked Biden). The fact that Palin even showed up for the debate probably raised her status in some circles!

RedWingFan wrote:I think you're so P.O'd because you were expecting comedy gold and got something quite different.

This is absolutely true! I was hoping she would fall on her face, just for the comedy. Oh well, I still have the Katie Couric interviews that I can keep watching to piss myself laughing!

For the record, I never claimed not to be racist because of the part of the country that I happen to reside in. I'm not racist, because I don't believe one's race matters one iota, when it comes to anything under the sun!

Palin didn’t answer some of the questions and missed numerous opportunities to call Biden & Obama out on mis-statements, but Biden lies through his teeth. I think Palin walked away the winner by at least catching the attention of many voters.

As idiotic as Biden is, he waxed the floor with Palin. She was so rehearsed and all she spouted was talking points. Thank you Republicans. She really is a six pack American. What is that? A moron.

Joe Biden won. I think Palin did better than expected, but the kicker for me was when she used her “five weeks” of inexperience as a way to avoid answering yet another question. She is clearly not qualified to lead this country. Not saying Obama/Biden is qualified, but I think they may be the lesser of the two evils.

I thought Sarah Palin was awesome. She is the winner. She was more honest also.

Palin did not have all the answers but came across more direct and understanding. More like one of the people. Will that help McCain not sure.

Comment by Yolanda

Sarah Palin definately showed poise and grace last night. If ever there was a question if a woman could handle the stress and presure of DC last night she proved that even a soccer mom like her can handle it. Her presentation was that of ” BRING IT ON”! She definately gets my vote!

Comment by Bonnie

I think the debate was a tie. Palin did good and I was proud of her but I also think Biden did good. I think the text msg poll is off for one thing because we personally voted and have never texed before and ended up sending the wrong message.. how many others did that????

Comment by Ratna

An extraordinary country needs extraordinary leaders. Joe Biden demonstrated his worth and won the debate. Sarah Palin only succeeded insofar as she met low expectations (set after her disastrous television interviews). Anybody can get through a debate if they don’t have to answer the questions asked.

Sarah Palin hands down was exceptional! She had the answers and is not afraid to stand for what she belives in. Sarah Palin will be the next VP of the United States!

Comment by Marian Sandell
October 3rd, 2008 at 12:20 pm

She didn’t commit mistakes like Biden did, nameing the incorrecy name of the general, falsely giving wrong facts about McCain. I think she won, as she was forthright and sincere.

Palin won

Comment by James
October 3rd, 2008 at 12:20 pm

I thought that Palin did well. Or at least better than expected. The bar was so low she couldn’t have failed really. That being said I still feel that she had no substance. Her refusal to answer the question asked was annoying. She could only ever bring it around to energy and blabber on and on about being from a small town. That’s all well and good in a stump speech but this should have been different. This woman is not ready to lead America in any way, shape or form.. Hell, this woman is not ready to lead a book club.

Comment by John Counts

Sarah won by T.K.O. It was Ali’s Rope A Dope all over again!!

Comment by Julie Twist

Joe Biden won. Palin was scripted and lacked substance. Not all the middle class drinks beer and falls for that down home phoniness.

Sarah Palin won definitively in the hearts of Americans. Joe Biden droned on and on but she always captured my attention and came off as much more sincere and in touch with Americans.

I thought Palin was horrible. She did a great job on the things she had rehearsed but she never answered several questions. The worst one was the question about her weakness. She just kinda rambled on about other things she had talked about earlier. Her writers did a good job but I think they Katie Curis interview gives us a better idea of the type of person she is.

Palin won, hands down, and not just because she exceeded the expectations of so many. She stood toe-to-toe with one of the longest-tenured Senators in the U.S. and answered every question in a positive, cool, confident manner. There’s no doubt that Joe Biden has a stronger grasp of foreign affairs; it would be a travesty if he didn’t. But Palin is a quick study, she connects extremely well with the American people, and is the breath of fresh air this nation has needed for a generation.

I thought that Sarah Palin was clearly the winner. She was confident and honest. I believe factually she was spot on even when Biden wanted to make it appear that she was not. I think she definately did her job well last night & she is going to be a remarkable Vice President.

I am a lifelong republican voting, I have been on the fence this entire election cycle. Recently I have been leaning democratic for this election because of the debacle that is the Republican ticket.

Sarah Palin is very insulting to women, she has a disdain for intelligent dicussion. She seems to think that America wants buffy the vampire slayer as VP. The whole situation is utterly unacceptable.

I have decided with certainty that I will vote for Obama/Biden, I hope that many Republicans will join me in being smarter than this ticket.

Sarah Palin did a wonderful job in the debate, she was very impressive. I am very proud of her. I think it is a great time in history to be a woman! Finally, women get a say in all of this! Without a doubt, I clearly see Sarah as the winner of the debate and am proud to give the McCain and Palin team my vote on Nov 4th!

Palin beat Biden easily. Biden was a nervous wreck, but Palin kept her cool the entire time.

Palin nailed it. Can any one of us imagine doing all she’s done in 5 weeks’ time?

This was the better debate last night (or, most entertaining anyway):

I find the 70% number hard to believe. However, it's no less accurate than some other polls I've seen that claimed Biden easily won the debate.

This we agree on. I do think Biden won the debate, because he was simply FAR more succinct with his points. The reality is that even though Palin did okay in some areas, let us not forget that she didn't even get the name of the General correct in Afghanistan. She said "General McLellan" 3 different times, with complete confidence, and that's not the name of the General in Afghanistan!

conversationpc wrote:Yes, she did much better than expected. However, there was a TON of pressure on her to perform well and she did. Even some more seasoned politicians would have folded under that pressure. She deserves credit where credit is due.

This we also agree on

conversationpc wrote:She's no dummy. This is just a ridiculous assertion.

That's your opinion. I don't think there is anything remotely "ridiculous" about suggesting that a woman may be a couple of sandwiches short of a picnic, when she can't name a single magazine or newspaper she has ever read. Hell, most people would have been smart enough to just make up the NY Times or something!

conversationpc wrote: You don't become governor of a state as a relatively unknown middle-class individual without being able to hold your own, intellectually speaking, with the so-called political elites.

A couple of points here. First and foremost, I do respect Palin for just being middle-class, because it's such a rarity in American politics! That said, I'm not sure who the "political elites" you're referring to in Alaska. Also, being Governor of Alaska isn't exactly being mayor of NYC. She's governor...okay. She has executive experience...okay. It doesn't change the fact that she's the governor of a state that has FAR fewer people per square mile, than any other state in the country. Hell, Alaska probably has fewer people than the top 20 CITIES in America! Please understand that I would respect her "executive experience" far more if she weren't on tv talking about how she has foreign policy experience because a country's former president flies into her state's airspace. It's an aburd comment to make, whether you like the woman or not!

conversationpc wrote:I don't know if I commented here or not but I talked to my wife last night about the Couric interview and how just totally awkward that was.

You hadn't commented about it, but I do respect you for being the first Palin supporter (at least you appear to be a supporter) on this site who has even admitted it was "awkward", and I thought it was FAR worse than just "awkward". I thought it was a complete train wreck!

conversationpc wrote: However, your rhetoric is really becoming overwhelming. Who Won VP Debate: A Review of Polls

by George Harris
Kansas City Star
Readers Advisory Panel 2008

Random and non-random polls for the vice presidential debate declare Biden the winner over Palin in the vice-presidential debate.

Non-random (unscientific) polls on AOL and MSNBC web sites show Biden winning 48 to 45 and 78.6 to 18.9 respectively.

Randomly selected subjects on three other polls also show Biden winning:

CNN/Opinion Research Biden 51 Palin 36
CBS Biden 46 Palin 21
Fox Biden 61 Palin 39

In the CBS poll, of the uncommitted voters, 18% now say they will vote Obama/Biden, 10% now say McCain/Palin.

The sample polls here are drawn from over 15,000 respondents - a much more accurate representation than 945 people who were already going to vote for McCain/Palin anyway. I personally think it was a draw - Biden "won" but the expectations were so low for Palin that she came out looking much better - but most Americans think Biden won.

It may be just me but I would assume the AOL poll to be more accurate and, considering how liberal MSNBC is, the numbers there look totally skewed.

You cannot base anything on those biased right-wing polls. You have to look at the national polls:

Viewers pick Biden as debate winner: snap polls
Last Updated: Friday, October 3, 2008 | 11:38 AM ET

Two national polls of people who watched the U.S. vice-presidential debate and are uncommitted voters showed that more of them thought Democrat Joe Biden, not Republican Sarah Palin, turned in the best performance.

A CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey found 51 per cent of those polled after Thursday night's debate in St. Louis, Mo., said the Delaware senator did the best job, while 36 per cent said the same about the Alaska governor.

The survey of 611 adult Americans had a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points.

Respondents said Palin —- who had to recover from some bumbling media interview performances —- was the more likable of the pair, scoring 54 per cent support, compared to Biden's 36 per cent.

The Republican candidate also exceeded expectations, according to 84 per cent of the viewers who were surveyed.

CBS News and Knowledge Networks conducted a cross-country poll of 473 uncommitted voters who watched the debate and found 46 per cent said Biden won the debate, compared to 21 per cent for Palin. Thirty-three per cent said it was a tie.

The margin of error for the sampling was plus or minus 5 percentage points.

The flash polls conducted by CBS and CNN reflected trends in overall opinion polls toward Democratic presidential candidate Barak Obama conducted over the past couple of weeks.

Recent polls show Obama with a small but perceptible lead. Before the vice-presidential debate, Republican officials announced that John McCain had decided to pull out of Michigan, conceding the state to the Democrats.

Fox News? Puhleaze.

Biden might've made some poor statements, but there's no way you can say that either of them "won" the debate. It was a dog and pony show, nothing more. They both need to get away from their catch phrases though. If I hear Maverick one more time, I'm gonna puke.
