This is true, for what time I've been around the man, he's always had the same opinion of Jeff (and anyone for that matter). I don't even think he stood up once during his set in SB.

Ok, so why roll your eyes then? Does he do that with any artist that people post about that he doesn't like? Hell of a lot of eye rolling going on then. I guess I just don't understand why Tito and SJ have such an issue with other people liking said artist(s)?

Because they've been beaten in the head with a rolling pin too many times, Deb? :P

I can weigh in with my part of it.

I loved World Play and was looking forward to a JSS-fronted Journey.

As such my issue's not with Jeff but with fans who have absolutely CRUCIFIED this band in Jeff's name just because Deano got him to show up at a few parties and as such they think they know all the private business of the band and so the band MUST be filthy.

FrankGrey alluded to this that Jeff and the band know what went on nobody who posts here does.

Well, only in that I think there are too many people here and elsewhere that think they have some hot line access to the inner nitty gritty...and I find that laughable, to say the least.

Think about it....this band doesn't 'open' up to people without significant confidence...meaning gag orders or other means of restraint. I remember the first time I met Friga back in 01, he gave me this very fucking suspicious look (like I was there to fuck his sister and steal his momma's pocketbook)....even after Neal told him that I did web work for the band. He's *not* the type of person to confide in a fan about why or how someone got booted. Just not going to happen.

So when I see fans around here start claiming some inside track to information no one else has, it's no different than raising a huge red flag with yellow words saying "I'm full of SHIT" onto a 100foot tall flagpole....and playing Hendrix's Star Spangled Banner while saluting to it, oblivious to the message the flag contains.....

If I recall, wasn't Journey with JSS, actually kicking up a bit of a storm? I seem to remember there being major label interest, concert attendance was up, when he was announced 18 months ago, there was some significant fucking excitement on the part of the band, etc, etc. Now we dont have an album with Jeff to actually measure success with Arnel vs Success with Jeff, as per Album sales.

But there's nothing....absolutely nothing, that suggests that they couldn't chart equally well with Jeff....we'll never know.

They were selling out shows routinely by August in '06....and I do believe "the new singer's energy" elped that. I feel that everything the band has done the last 10 years has helped them be where they are now. I know you thought they weren't doing well, but the Generation tour was very successful. They've been out there promoting themselves for a long time as a good show to attend.

"Deano got him to go?"
I admit Deano is a big persuasive guy
but if Jeff went it is because he wanted to go.
He seems to enjoy interacting with the fans
as much as they enjoy him.

Nothing wrong with that.

As for Journey
they don't need anyone to crucify them
They are pretty good at that themselves.

When you grow up with a band 30 years
it is only natural that it sort of becomes part of your life.
there in good times & bad
Music is like a cosmic family
some of us just feel
that no matter how good the music is
we still want to believe we gave our hearts
to something all these years that was worthy...

The band does have to keep itself up there in the eyes of the fans.
This is Journey
A band catapulted on the struggle of life
Love & loss
Right & wrong

The way they treat themselves
is a tune in how we see them treating us

Nothing is always
Just the music
especially in the case of Journey
because music is a perception
as is everything in our life
& it is affected by everything!

As for the stage presence and live performance comments, I do go there for the live show, but I don't need a guy that dresses like he's in an LA street gang rubbing his hair every 5 seconds, showering the stage with sweat tosses and doing the same pre-scripted contrived moves over and over to have a good time at a Journey concert. It's just a mask for the fact that he's a very average professional singer and can't sell albums because he generates basically zero interest in the U.S. Dude, no one is interested in the guy in the U.S...never have been and probably never will be. But you guys think he's better off.  Now that's funny as hell. Rock fans can generally recognize talent and they've simply passed on Soto. Acknowledge that and accept it. It's true.

For your info, I was 'dressed' by the consultant brought in by the band, all my clothes were chosen for me. Sweat glands are not something I can control so you got me on that one, never had a US manager/producer or anyone that is usually hired to guide an artist to success so there goes your 'no interest' theory (if William Hung or Billy Bob Thorton can have music careers/interest, its because they have someone working for them....means ANYONE can generate interest, has NOTHING to do with talent), rubbing my hair every 5 seconds is good, helps invigorate the follicles so it continues to grow, & most average professional singers don't have a fraction of the background I do....you're alone again dude, seems only you can take a post that is about how someone is masking the truth again & turn it into a personal attack on me. Come to one of my shows in Europe & meet some rock fans who have passed on me...small audiences in the US are because I hadn't done anything there of real stature in....ever! I never had a Herbie Herbert or even a mango sherbert to push my career there....stay tuned for more on your theory in the next year, more like watch & listen.

I can see your point, but come on JoePa there is fans like that in every fan base, not just Jeffs? My issue is.....why do they feel the need to come in and try to minimize Jeff's talents every time something positive is posted about him? What are they getting out of doing that? Do you honestly believe they are trying to post constructive critcism? There is many artists posted about here that just don't do it for me, but instead of posting a negative about it, I'll just move on to a different thread. :?

I bow to thee NIG
the voice of reason

Do not feed the negative
For it lives on bringing you down.

Why I waste my breath baffles me
Guess I just want to keep my wits fine tuned
Sometimes you just have to make a stand
Send the mesage loud & clear

Stil,
Better things we can do with that energy...

They played all big barns in my region...by themselves...and sold well. 14K in Saratoga and 8Kish on a cold Tuesday night in Buffalo. The tour was extended and I believe they gave away about a half million CD's? I think the tour average was 6,500ish according to end of the year numbers. Not great..no, but they were solo.

1998 was what it was....testing waters.
1999 was solid with Foreigner
2001 was somewhat dissapointing but at least they toured a new album....that does create some lasting impressions I believe.
I thought 2002 may have effectively reached secondary markets but the shitty places they played overall and the static setlist made it a dissapointing year in my opinion.
2003 they weren't on their game, but they did get some decent exposure from the main event tour
2004 was a waste! Detour tour??? No album, nothing new...I didn't get it...other than Deen-O starting to sing
2005..as stated above I think was successful and put new music in a lot of folks hands.
2006 JSS and more exposure

I just feel like they have re-established themselves over the last 10 years. Great new material and a compelling lead singer may be the Catalysts, but they have built some equity. I think people respect that they will put on a good show.

Tito and I, while not the biggest fans of Soto in Journey, did continue to support that particular incarnation so I'm not sure why people say that we "hate" Soto. I don't even know the fucking guy. It was still Journey, just like it is now, and I would have continued to go to the shows. He was a step down from the Augeri of 1998-2000, but a step up from the Augeri of 2001 on. And that was good enough for me to continue enjoying the shows.

He's *not* the type of person to confide in a fan about why or how someone got booted. Just not going to happen.

Family Secrets. That's how the "family" works, they keep secrets and trust only their inner circle. They don't like leaks either. They'll "take care of them" if someone leaks too.

BTW, it's Cain! He lets you live.

Gosh, couldn't be from your posts or anything?

I'm not going to apologize because the artists I listen to can move units. It means their talents are liked and appreciated, and is a great part of why all artists do what they do. To sell records. Sorry that the dudes you listen to have small followings, but that's not my problem. It's true.

Besides, why are you always so concerned about the size of Jeff's following? Why would that be a "problem" for B?

DAMN STRAIGHT!!!

Dan, you just need to STFU while you're ahead, your ignorance is showing! You have ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE!!!

Fuck you, Pam. Don't ever tell me what to do. Go fly all over the world and continue to stalk Jeff. You're pathetic.

Dan,

I knew as soon as you saw this thread you would start your attack on JSS. I don't need to come to his defense because he can take care of you himself, but you are a complete IDIOT!!

For your information, I'm not the only one who fly's all over to see JSS!! I do it to SUPPORT him and promote him, that should say something about the kind of performer he is. That he has fans and friends willing to travel all over to see him perform! So I guess you stalk Journey??? If anyone is stalking him, it's you with your obssesion to tear down an artist for no good reason.

Pathethic is you calling me at 8:00am in South Bend to brag about how you had just gotten arrested for "drunk & disorderly in public & resisting arrest"! Now that is PATHETIC!!!

I've said my $.02, now I will go two doors down, back where I belong, so I don't have to read your dribble! :/
