Steve Perry is the GREATEST VOICE EVER!!!

I already knew that.

Debatable. I would've like a little longer resume than 5+ years.

I'll take his voice from 1981-1986 over anyone else's.

You mean '78-'83. Perhaps through '86.

Actually, I was being an SA. I have not read this in its entirety, but this did catch my eye....
(The author is referencing Francis Albert Sinatra).....
"quite possibly the greatest singer of all time."
Now, ol' blue eyes had one hell of a voice, BUT.....NO!!!!

His voice may not have been everyone's preference, but he had pipes and vocal control like no other. He would actually show up at the studio in the morning, AFTER boozing and partying it up all night, and nail the recording in one take.

To be fair his lazy drawl was probably suited to performing after a night on the town. Its not like he was performing any kind of vocal gymnastics after all.

BINGO!!!
His voice was definitely sexy though!!! :D

Perry's my boy, but Sinatra may be one of the most unique and inspiring vocalists ever. Way too often imitated....never duplicated.I'm Italian – I HAVE to feel this way.

Well I'm NOT Italian and I agree!!!

Well then consider yourself an honorary Paison

Agreed Deb..and I'd go further and say it's actually the greatest vocal performance ever heard on a rock album. For all the flaws of the record and allowing too for the fact that Journey took the wrong direction commercially in 1986..in terms of the quality of the vocals alone nothing but nothing touches Perry on ROR.

Love Raised On Radio but there is no way that it could be rightfully described as a rock album. Its pure pop through and through.

At last! I was hoping one of the Goons would flinch at the sight of with Schon looking like a total Miami Vice ponce in his pink jacket singing Girl Can't Help It. Goes to show that the hero to all the macho messageboard warriors on this board happily gayed it up with the best of them....or do you blame Perry for the jacket too?

I prefer Frontiers to ROR if for no other reason than the vocals on After The Fall, Faithfully, and Ask The Lonely. Separate Ways wasn't too shabby, either!!!

It's not pure pop. Listen to pop music from the 80s and there's a clear difference. It was still an AOR album.

Well that makes it a little tougher, throwing After The Fall in there. His vocals are stellar on that one......same with Only the Young. ROR vocals still top it for me (love his vocal tone on songs like It Could Have Been You and Girl Can't Help It, but Frontiers is thisclose behind.

P  P! Or Pop/rock at the very least. Its certainly not an out and out rock album. Sits nicely with Peter Gabriel's So from the same year in that respect. Even Judas Priest followed the trend with the poptastic Turbo!

RoR is a FANTASTIC album...

Not quite 100% pop, and it even has rockier moments... the title track has just as much teeth as many other songs from the era. Throw in BGTY, OYLS, and various other moments throughout the rest of the album and it did carry a "rock" vibe throughout, even if most songs were mid-tempo.

This Journey album makes me "feel" more than all others except for possibly TBF.. and for listeners like me who get emotionally attached to music, that carries a whole bunch of weight.

Very, VERY good record.

Why is there no DVD of the tour?
It should be out there if only for us to look at those clothes and hairstyles.
