DAVE BALDWIN

Voices - Anything Can Happen
Tradia - Welcome To Paradise
Dave Baldwin - Time
Departure - Open Your Mind
Tradia - III: From The Basement
V/A - Tribute To Foreigner (on song Feels Like the First Time with band Departure)
Norway - Rising Up From The Ashes

Couple of years ago there was talk about Dave Baldwin preparing second solo album. It was before he joined Norway. After he left Norway there was no info about his next moves. Anyone could give some light into his later activities?

MARTY BALIN (strictly AOR selection):

Marty Balin - Balin
Marty Balin - Lucky
Marty Balin - There's No Shoulder (Japan only EP)
KBC Band - s/t
Jefferson Airplane - s/t (on songs Solidarity, Summer Of Love, True Love and Now Is the Time; which are only songs on this album with any simmilarity to melodic rock)
Marty Balin - Balince: A Collection
Marty Balin - Better Generation
Marty Balin - Freedom Flight
Marty Balin - Greatest Hits (All Newly Recorded 1999)
Marty Balin - 2003
Marty Balin - s/t
Marty Balin - Nashville Sessions
Marty Balin - The Aviator: Lost Treasures

Small notice:
Marty Balin is legend of rock n' roll, founding member and long time lead singer of San Francisco rock bands Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship (before and after Mickey Thomas-years). There is bunch of records he made with those bands but there is very small chance that average melodic rock fan would found there anything of more than passing interest. So I tried to concentrate on his solo work which is more into melodic rock territory.
One interesting thing about Marty Balin is that I've read somewhere that in time of Infinity album, Steve Perry was billed as "Marty Balin clone" by some music journalists.

Andrew, here it is, finally...

KIMMO BLOM (strictly AOR selection):

Urban Tale - Urban Tale
Heartplay - The Album
Urban Tale - Signs Of Times
Radioactive - Yeah (on song Not That Innocent)
Heartplay - Where The Deadends Meet
Michael Riesenbeck - Shouting Silence (on song Call To Glory)
Northern Light - s/t (on songs Still My Hero and Lay Down Your Defences)
upcoming third Urban Tale album (unknown release date)

Small notice:
Kimmo Blom is also versatile artist, so he's been singing in heavy metal band Dycrest for last couple of years. There is album This Is My World with his lead vocals, but there he's utilizing completely different way of singing so this obviously won't be of much interest here.

This thread purpose is to present singers with vocal range and singing style with simmilarities to Steve Perry and current Journey singer Arnel Pineda.

I see that you group Arnel and Perry together, as if they were some kind of team - and you compare the others to Perry and Arnel.

Your title should have read:

Chalfant/Hugo/Pineda/Augeri/other Perrylike singers discographies

How silly!

Maybe You're right... but it's not really of much importance... I am simply trying to present other interesting vocalists with more or less simmilarity in voice to you know who... Steve Perry left strong legacy, and Arnel Pineda is one who's on "position" right now... so they obviously aren't the ones I want to cover here...

ALEXANDER J. LIGERTWOOD (selection of his more AOR work):

Santana - Marathon
Santana - Zebop!
Santana - Shango
Santana - Beyond Appearances (shared vocals with Greg Walker)
Metro - Metro
Radioactive - Ceremony Of Innocence (on song Waiting For A Miracle)
Joshua Perahia - Something To Say (on songs 1, 3, 5 and 12)
David Garfield - Giving Back (on songs 4-7 and 10)
George & G - So Much To Say (on song Touch The Sun)

Small notice:
Alex Ligertwood was singing on more Santana's albums but only four mentioned should be considered AOR... I tried to extract everything considered AOR or westcoast from his huge work... If someone knows something I missed, feel free to update me.

Thanks again for including me...

As for the Waking JONAH (not Judah) album :D ...we're looking at doing some live shows and finishing our remaining songs with a full band at the moment...recording will begin most likely in early 2009.

Glad you're enjoying the LOF disc...I'm quite proud of that one..."Live & Let Go" and "Time To Say Goodbye" are 2 of my most favorite songs that I've ever recorded...

I don't think any of these singers sing in the Journey/Perry style, save Timothy Lewis, and Andreas Eklund. House of Shakira actually covers Stone in Love, and Separate Ways.

Anyone has info about this guy after Public Domain? Is he still singing backing vocals for Elton John?

I heard this many times. Give a chance to some of them and you might find otherwise.
Simmilarities are matter of personal judgement... for me, there are many reasons to like mentioned artists...

I pretty much agree and some of the inclusions are frankly baffling but there is some very good music to be had from a few of the artists listed so far.

Keep up the good work.

I don't think "Perrylike" necessarily means "sounds like Steve Perry" specifically....I think it means more singers of a similar ilk....ie; clean tone, higher-register, melodic, etc....in that sense, I think singers like the ones listed and even Brad Delp, Steve Walsh or Tommy Shaw would fit...

Shawn, you're on good trail... but I wasn't trying to go that far...
I'm too tired to continue it today, but if someone is interested who are singers I also plan to cover here... here are names:

Billy Greer, James Guest, Jeremey Hunsicker, Ric Jacobs, Ted Poley, Guido Priori, Chris Roberts, Gary Savoie, Peter Sundell, Mark Weitz, Gary West, Mark Williamson, Freddy Curci, John Elefante, Rik Emmett, Jimi Jamison, Tony Lewis, Tommy Shaw and Danny Vaughn.

btw, that Once You Love Somebody song by Andreas Eklund of House of Shakira IS the song off ROR. He sounds rather good on it also as it is more in his range than the other songs.

I tend to agree in that the criteria is basically higher pitched melodic singing--which tends to fit about 90% of the singers working in the 80s. I don't think anybody would mistake Dave Bickler of Survivor to Perry. Bickler-era Survivor didn't even sound like Journey!!

That said, one that you CAN hear is Terry Brock of Strangeways. He has his own style, but there are videos of him doing Journey at a show right after the 9-11 attacks at a festival where a Journey tribute was done after all the solo performances, and he can be dead on when he wants to be. Wouldn't surprise me at all if he was on the short list after ROR. Some of his vocals on Strangeways' Native Sons album is close enough that he would fit right in.

For example, Goodnight L.A. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBV82F6T64A
