Ya know, I'm all for parties. And if you have the free cash & time, then by all means go.
But for the life of me, I'd never frivolously spend in this economy.

This is actually a very cheap trip for me -- already had a travel voucher from the airlines after returning from Shoreline which all but covered my plane fair. It's a doozy!

Mel and the others are right... I try also to balance between saving and living my life, because I never really traveled that much until the past couple of years, and there will most likely never be another 2008 for me -- not like this year. Until a few years ago, I just stayed buried in work and never gave vacations much thought. But I don't want to get old and have no memories other than busting my tail at the office to look back on. This year has been extremely helpful for me in more ways than one.

You should think about coming down, man! We'd love to have ya! There are 3 other MR peeps in my state besides me that I know of, and I have yet to meet any of them...

While I don't think it's anyone's business how you handle your finances, how you choose to provide for your family's future or what you do with your time....you always seem to respond in kindness.....now begins the whining, HOOOOUUSTON, what happened to Dallas? lol j/k

Ahh, he doesn't mean any harm, and Arkansas has been here even longer than I have. He was actually the first person I ever PM'ed after joining MR, so we're cool. I definitely understand his point of view. Traveling has been helpful for me in many ways, though. It's been good for me to see what else is out there, and to meet people and make contacts outside my own state. You never know what can happen in the future, or what opportunities may open up.

If you mean what happened to Dallas as the location for this get-together, we talked about it a while back and it just didn't seem to be a good midpoint for everyone. We needed something easier for the TX peeps to keep the driving down a bit. Plus, from what I'm told, Houston's probably a much more pleasant place to hang out in than Dallas.

That said, the next MR get-together within an affordable distance of me... NO EXCUSES, I will be there.
