There may be a few... :) As for the horror remakes, so far most of them are kinda sucking from what I hear. Real missed opportunities, and it's like they don't want to really waste the time to elevate them beyond their stereotypes.

Gunbot wrote:Sulu is a very cool cat. I ran into hm on one of my evening strolls and we had a nice dicussion about the local neighborhood raccoon population.

When I was an early teen, I got involved in a local Star Trek fan group, and George was the guest at our first convention. I got the honor of being his assistant, and he was such a nice guy. It was right before the release of "ST II: Wrath of Khan", and he'd brought the first footage we'd seen of it... talk about being excited.

A few years later when they were working on ST III, several of us sponsored fan club t-shirts for the cast and I selected him, and he actually sent me a hand-written thank you with some details on what was going on with the new film. Wish I still had it... what a lost treasure. It was written on the letterhead of a shipping company he owned, and was written in two colors of ink as the first pen ran out. I remember him mentioning how they'd had a fire that damaged one of the sets featuring alien plant life (must have been the Genesis planet).

7 years later and after ST V had bombed, I was no longer active in the club but there was another ST convention and I got back in touch with them. They weren't sponsoring this one, but had a reunion party reserved with George and invited me to come too if I re-upped my club dues, so I did. George is a runner, and I invited him to go running the next day, and picked him up at the hotel the next morning and took him out to a runnning track near a golf course here -- he loved it, and was commenting about how much he liked the lushness of the trees and stuff in our state. Now me, I wasn't really a runner and had something to eat before I left that morning, and after a few miles I started to get queasy and had to slow down. Stupid move, but he was so cool about it and we just walked the rest of the way. He loves to talk about Star Trek and didn't mind my questions, even about Shatner.... haha! Gave me some great behind the scenes antecdotes.

We also talked about ideas for what would make a good plot for the next movie, and his hopes for a Captain Sulu character. One of my suggestions was to do sort of a Star Wars-style approach and have a story which separated the main characters and gave them their own subplot challenges to face, and he really thought that sounded like a cool idea. Total (but cool) coincidence, that's exactly what they did with the next film, and I was also really happy for him to see Captain Sulu in command of his own ship in ST VI. Too bad the spinoff series they planned never took off. I think it could have been very good.

After running I took him to IHOP and he was getting recognized, and was really cool to anyone who came up to the table. That was the last time I saw him, but he really was one of the most down to earth and friendly guys you could meet.

Worst experience meeting a ST cast member? Marina Sirtis... rude, and seemed full of herself. She was just there collecting a paycheck and seemed to care less about the fans.

I am a bit put off that they copied the space battle style and all of that directly from Battlestar Galactica. I know it was inevitable that the re-imagined BSG was going to have a big impact on films and television in the future (like the way Dr. House has suddenly become Dr. Baltar from BSG) but the degree of the emulation bothers me a little.

I kinda wish the new Trek had done their own original thing rather than just emulating the space battle style in Galactica. Also - if you are going to copy someone and you have 10x the budget, shouldn't you be able to do even better rather than "close but not quite as good".

Star Trek as a whole is gay!!!! I remember seeing it on tv when I was a kid. Guys in foam suits insulted my intelligence even as a 6 year old. It's still stupid!!!

I saw it two weeks ago at a screening. JEALOUS? Stern is right, the casting was excellent, the only one I can complain about was Spock, who was kind of a dick. Leonard Nimoy was in it, and when he appeared I thought it was obvious that Zach Quinto just isn't the right Spock.

At first I wasn't sure what to think about the reboot parts, because I'm a big TOSfag and they made a couple of major changes to the canon. But I decided I liked it overall, and I would comment more if it was already out...

I'm gonna go see it again next week.

Yeah, it was bound to happen. BSG set a lot of new standards. Best sci-fi show to date, either on the silver screen OR teevee! Stargate is for cocksmokers.

Yea even some of the slapped together FV make a better movie trailer than anything out in the theaters in years.

Like this ... I saw this the other day (it's better in HD) and was blown away:

It sucks they have Nimoy making an appearance but not Shatner. They must of have decided that Shatner's singing (? ?) on his albums is destroying the Star Trek "legacy". :)

That was badass. The "breakout" on New Caprica and Galactica/Pegasus vs. the Base Stars are the best SF battle sequences ever. I loved the fact that in the BSG-verse there is no such thing as a "shield" to protect your ship. And no lasers. Just bullets, bombs, assault crafts and nukes. Makes anything Luca$ has done look wussified (those last three movies blew). Can you believe we have to wait till Fall to see The Plan?

They should put Captain Kirk in an orgy scene and make it a XXX movie. Friga could make a guest appearance in it. That would bring the loons out en masse to see the film.

I don't see any way they could have fit Shatner into the plot as well as they did with Nimoy unless the whole storyline was changed. Also, Chris Pine wasn't doing more Kirk than Shatner, so the two would have been too different to put in the movie. Nimoy and Quinto were similar enough that it worked.

Interesting... I'd read a very early review weeks back where the dude mentioned all the cast performances were spot on except for one, and I kept wondering who that would be. Damn sure couldn't have been Bones... that guy seems to have the part down! So was it Spock?

Not sure, it could have been any number of people aside from McCoy or Scottie, who were both amazing. Sulu was just ok, but he didn't have a big part and it would have been obnoxious for him to do a Takei voice. Uhura was completely different, obviously her char was more developed now. Chekhov was good, he kept the accent. Uhhh... dunno. lol

Hey Sarah! Hope you've been doing well. Seems like I haven't seen you on here in a while. Thanks for the info! I really want to check this movie out. I may go tomorrow night. Have you (or anyone here) seen this movie AND Wolverine? Just wondering which movie I should go see? Help a brotha out!

I haven't seen Wolverine but considering Trek has like a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, everyone agrees it's amazing.

And to the BSG nerds, I gotta say I doubt it had a huge impact on the revamp. BSG didn't invent or popularize space battles.

Saw it last night with the family and friends . And it was excellent! and for me the most entertaining Star Trek, or film in general that I have seen in a long long time. The atmosphere and buzz was great, brilliant movie! exceeded expectations, and personally I feel it's the best made Star Trek movie to date, easily.

A worthy 5/5! the perfect Star Trek movie.

I saw it tonight.

It was, by far, one of the best movies that I have ever seen. The only one that can parallel it, in my opinion, is Taken.
