I fail to see how a poll on Lou Dobbs is representative of the American people at large.
While nowhere near a complete hack like Hannity, he does skew Conservative.

Thanks for the reminder, Tito.

At least he's a true independent conservative. He's blasted Bush for years and has not defended him once.

Actually, if you look at all of his views, he's really not conservative. Centrist is more accurate.

Where's the competitive market forces in Limbaugh being concurrently aired on every dial across the AM spectrum?
It's the public airwaves, the Doctrine merely gave the people a right of reply -that includes groups as diverse as the ACLU to the NRA.
If Limbaugh's blathering stood up to so much as the slightest bit of scrutiny he wouldn't fear an injection of sharp elbowed opposition, he would embrace it.
Reagan repealed the doctrine, because, as was the case with most of his Presidency, he put corporate profits ahead of public interest.
As his own FCC chairman said, TV is simply "a toaster with pictures."

TNC, you usually make good arguments but you are stretched thin on this one. What part of free market do you not understand? Liberals have tried and failed time and time again to get traction in radio. The people have repeatedly rendered judgement: You guys SUCK in radio and people don't listen in large enough numbers to attract the advertising dollars needed to sustain the program.

After years and years of individual failures in the market, what did the left do? They pulled a classic liberal manuever; they threw MORE money at the perceived problem with Airhead America Radio thinking "If we can just spend enough money, we'll finally beat Limbaugh!"

Do we need to talk about the colossal failure AAR is? Is it any wonder all the "supposed" hot shot talent bailed?

You know as well as I do if a hot shot liberal radio guy/gal came along who appealed to a wide audience they'd be signed in a fucking heartbeat. The left doesn't have that card to play and they've really run out of ideas on how to win so they'll just use the power of the federal government to ram the left's drivel down the throat of an unwilling public.

You're operating under the assumption that for every Limbaugh broadcast a Randi Rhodes (or whoever) would have to follow.
As far as I am aware, the doctrine didn't work like that.
All groups were allowed to petition for right of rebuttal, and the exact terms varied per station.
Wasn't the original idea of license renewals to ensure that stations were using the public airwaves to broadcast in the public interest?
If Rush (or anyone) wants to masquerade as "America's newsman" and spew shit on substantive issues, there should be some form of recourse.

With a reinstated doctrine or without one, I think most right wingers broadcasters will be imploded by their own petard.
The sudden conversion of former Bush sycophants, Savage and Beck, to champions of populism is indicative of this.

Who the hell cares what he or anyone else thinks?

I'm bringing a factual scientific poll result to the argument, you're bringing a flawed concept that if people dont want to listen (and advertise) that you're going to ram it down their throats.

Whether Lou Dobbs, Keith Olberman or Rush Limbaugh presented the poll shouldn't matter one iotta, so long as the poll itself was conducted with scientifically sound sampling.

Sorry, TNC. I'm on your side on most of this shit these days (which is personally shocking)...but this is something that you're not making a good argument on.

Fine, the way to go about doing this is to have a left-wing radio personality bid for time on the same or a competing network. He/she will go through the same application process Rush did 20 years ago...and he/she will present a case to the network and the network will determine if the personality is a viable business decission based on whether or not the show will attract advertising revenue.

To force the network to put up an oposing viewpoint with no viable revenue doesn't make much sense...from a business standpoint or another other.

If the left's message was resonating with radio listeners, it wouldn't be an issue as advertising revenue would be there.

Just because Air America was a colossal failure, it doesn't mean that the apropriate course of action is to have the government force air america on the airwaves.

How completely idiotic and stupid....

What makes you think Lou Dobb's audience is a scientific crosssection of America?
A quick google search yields members of FreeRepublic.com heeding a call to arms to jam the very poll at question.

No website poll is reliable, and besides, there is so much misinformation out there concerning the Doctrine, that negative results are not surprising.

You talk as if the radio landscape is an open and level playing field.
Many of Air America's programs were relegated to low wattage stations from the getgo.
I never heard one on my dial.
If Clinton hadn't signed the 1996 telecomm act and opened the door to even greater consolidation, would Limbaugh be where he is today?

It absoutley is, ratings and revenue wins. The way it should be.

Umm, no.
Clinton removed ownership caps allowing conglomerates like Clear Channel to go from owning 50 stations to 1,200.

Gee, I didn't know Conservatives favored monopolies.
Air America (like George Soros, Daily Kos, MoveOn.org, ACORN) is just another bête noire of the Right; it's failure was celebrated before the inaugural broadcast signal went over the airwaves.

You can't know what sells and what doesn't when the consumer isn't given a choice.

I understand your point. But they have to keep her pretty. I would like to know what Hillary spent on her stuff to compare. It may have been less but she didn't look as good (if you know what I mean). $150k between hair, makeup, wardrobe, shoes, etc. as sad as this sounds probably isn't that hard to amass over a period of time if your buying some of the best stuff.

I can't believe the lengths to which you guys will go to defend behavior in Palin you would find reprehensible, condemnable, and elitist in Obama.

There is simply no WAY to justify this kind of expenditure. To think people were all over Edwards for $400 haircuts he paid for out of his own pocket.

Tree, I know you're going to jump in here, but I fully expect your comment to be convoluted and ostentatious, so don't bother. This is an indefensible act.

Mugger Carves ‘B’ In McCain Supporter’s Face
Thursday, October 23, 2008 – updated: 6:23 pm EDT October 23, 2008

PITTSBURGH -- Police said a mugger carved a “B” into a 20-year-old woman’s face, saying he would teach her a lesson, after noticing a McCain/Palin bumper stick on her car.

Sgt. Bickerstaff, of Pittsburgh Robbery, said that the woman told police she was at a Citizens Bank ATM on Pearl and Liberty in Bloomfield on Wednesday night when a man put a knife to her throat and demanded money.

He said the mugger noticed a McCain bumper sticker on the woman’s car, became angry and began punching the woman in the back of the head.

After the woman fell to the ground, the mugger told her he was going to teach her a lesson and carved a “B” into the right side of her face, Bickerstaff said.

Bickerstaff said the woman claims the mugger was a black male, about 6 feet 4 inches tall, and wore dark-colored jeans and a black undershirt.

Peter Feldman, communications director for the McCain/Palin campaign, confirmed that the woman was a volunteer for the campaign and was mugged at knifepoint on Wednesday night.

After the mugging, he said the mugger noticed the McCain/Palin bumper sticker on her car and told her, “I’m going to teach you a lesson.”

Feldman said he then carved a “B” in her face.

He said the woman was take to an area hospital, treated and released.

Both John McCain and Sarah Palin spoke with the victim and her family on Thursday, Feldman said.

The Obama/Biden campaign issued a statement regarding the incident that said, "Our thoughts and prayers are with the young woman for her to make a speedy recovery, and we hope that the person who perpetrated this crime is swiftly apprehended and brought to justice."

When liberals talk about Women's rights, equality, etc, what they REALLY mean is women who CONFORM to their leftist ideas and leftist beliefs. All bets are off for the ones who dont walk the walk and talk the talk.

This is no different than Liberals screaming about "freedom of speech" then clammering to bring back the fairness doctrine LOL. The liberal definition of freedom of speech is its "free speech" as long as what you have to say is acceptable to them. If not then you are racist, fascist, fear monger, vast right wing conspiracy (did I leave anything out?)

THAT being said, the right would be all over this if the roles were reversed AND you can bet your next paycheck the left would use the sexism defense.

While I completely disagree this is the case for "all liberals," it certainly applies to some.

But then, some neo-conservatives are warmongering, hatemongering, spendthrifty hypocrites.

I think you answered the question yourself. Edwards was a moron because the money came out of his own pocket...to get a fucking trim "Joe the barber" could have done. Palin had her shit paid for. What's the difference if they used it for ads or for her attire? The woman is drop dead gorgeous and needs clothes to match. McCain is one of the ugliest people alive and looks like he should have fucking formaldehyde in his veins rather than blood, Obama is hideous as well and looks some Gumby doll gone bad, and Biden looks like "Alfred" the butler from the old Batman series. That money was well spent on Sarah.

There are nutbags on both sides of the aisle. I'm not proud of this, but here is a report from my home state about a guy driving by and yelling racial slurs at people holding Obama signs. People really need to get a fucking life (on both sides).

Man yells racial slurs at Obama supporters in Wakefield

WAKEFIELD, Mass. -- Police are looking for a man who yelled racial slurs at people holding signs for Barack Obama and investigating the overwhelming number of Obama signs that have been stolen.

Police said that a young white male in a black pickup truck drove by a group of Obama supporters on Main and Water streets in Wakefield and yelled racial slurs.

The same male in the black pickup truck was later seen in another part of town stealing signs.

"We have reports of it [the pickup truck] being seen stalking around areas with a lot of obama signs and then the signs go missing," said Chief Rick Smith, of the Wakefield Police Department.

Police said every political cycle there are incidents of signs being stolen; however, this year there 25 reported Obama signs taken from residents' lawns.

Police are actively investigating the racial incident and consider it a hate crime.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Wakefield Police Department at (781) 246-6321.

The B is carved in her face backwards like it was done in a mirror, it looks too perfect (no signs of struggle?) and she refused medical treatment.

I do as well. O'Reilly also said at first glance that it looks like complete bullshit. The "B" being carved backwards could give it some validity as most Obama supporters are seemingly illiterate.

While I don't agree that Puppet Palin is "drop dead gorgeous", I do agree with the rest of your post. McCain looks like he died 10 years ago, and someone forgot to tell him, and what the fuck is with Obama's ears. Those fucking ears don't even look human
