Well, he is the originator of the most famous keyboard riff/intro in the history of rock music (DSB). Separate Ways is immediately identiafiable with Journey fans as is the intro to Open Arms and Faithfully. And his work on Mother, Father is an absolute masterpiece. Though in all fairness I believe Neal's father wrote almost all of the arrangements on that song. Jon brought the keys to the forefront when he joined Journey. The songwriting got exponentially better, the numbers in terms of sales and hits went through the roof and the band's popularity, in large part because of the shift in keyboards from progressive roots to a "poppier" sound that he brought, took this band to the next level. Perhaps even a few levels higher. He was to Journey when he joined and replaced Rolie what Perry was to Journey when he replaced Fleischman...a few steps up on the food chain.StevePerryHair wrote:Saint John wrote:The shift in numbers when Cain joined the band don't lie.Rhiannon wrote:Tito wrote:Cain should've been the one wearing the coattails because Perry sure held on to Cain's.

Is it because Cain was so hip that he just brought them into the 80's scene in such a way that it could never have happened without himOr that he was so hot he brought in the ladies
What was it that brought on a numbers shift? Oh, his writing. I guess you do have to give him credit for that. But they wrote a lot of great songs before his time too, so I still don't buy that as the reason.
