HE didn't say it. It was not in quotes. The writer said it, and who knows how he got that idea. Maybe he assumed it by something that got said in the interview that meant something else. Or maybe he specifically said "don't quote me on this" and they guy didn't, but said it anyway.... who knows.

But this is exactly how all the shit about "Perry says he's going to and never does..." gets started every damn time. Find me ONE quote from PERRY HIMSELF where he ever said one word about recording an album, releasing an album or anything relative. And I'm not talking about the comments saying "I think about it" or "I might look into it" -- Bullshit... I think about a LOT of stuff I don't plan on doing any time in the direct future. I looked into being a travel agent once and I never did it. Last I checked, thinking about doing something wasn't a crime, but a lot of people treat it like he's some kind of villianous asshole just because he thinks about shit. Please.

I'm thinking about making more coffee right now. Am I gonna? Well, I might sneak into the kitchen and see what kind I have. Or I might sit here arguing about Steve Perry for another 1/2 hour.  Um, let's see... I'll go with coffee. At least I get something out of it.

3 points for SJ on the "refreshing website" thing (because I bet its true... LOL) but 5 points for peridactyl for the return volley, especially the 2nd line.  Double entendre always earns point. I'm practicing for the never before seen triple.

(see that... that was almost a triple right there)

I don't think so. I bought Street Talk when it came out because it sounded like Journey. When I heard his next release, I released he didn't want to be a rock star anymore so I passed on that album. Perry, the person, isn't on most of our minds as we continue on being fans of the band. The guy is almost 60. do you want something that is all protooled to death, that might sound like him in his younger days but isn't really his true sound? That would be too much like a Milli Vanilli type release. We have Escape and Frontiers remastered and the fantastic Captured album. Good enough for me.

Some intern at VH1 was probably surfing the Net, read the comment from Mark Goodman and came up with this news flash. SP has never said he has a album ready for release. He has said he working on material and that is true. Until I hear it from him that it's in the can, I'm not going to take what VH1 (or anyone else) says as anything more than gossip.

The only reason I even saw this post ^ was that I scrolled fast to see if anyone else said THAT ^ before I came in to say the same thing. You guys just kill me with your replies every time a rumor surfaces...

"Some intern at VH1" is about right, JUST like it was some random DJ who reported it after reading that GQ article... they cut out the source they got it from and they repeat it as "Steve Perry said he's releasing and album..." when in reality, what they should be saying is "I read in a magazine that an interviewer said that he heard another DJ say that Randy Jackson said that Steve Perry said that he didn't realize a recorder was accidentally running when he was singing in the shower."

Somehow that translates into "Steve Perry is releasing an album with 28 songs and 65 bonus tracks by Christmas."

This is not to say I don't believe that SJ heard what he heard. But the three pages of reactions to it are funny as all hell. (You posted this just to entertain yourself, didn't you Dan?? ) I LOVE the Perry rumors. This is great entertainment. NOT that it wouldn't be great news if it were true, I'd love that, but... I'm not so hinged on it that I'm about to believe anything a DJ, a VJ or a magazine writer says just because I want it to be true. Come on, how many times are you guys going to fall for this. When STEVE opens his mouth, THEN have a 30 page thread about it (I'm not making fun by the way - I'm having fun WITH you all, not "at" you all).

I think the loons are running the asylum. They are collectively chomping at any bit that gets released. They scour the web looking for any and all blurbs concerning SMFP, not even thinking that they look like complete and utter cases. Talk about relivin' a childhood? Try giving the man a little bit 'o respect and credit. The guy CRAVES privacy. I wonder just what inspires those weirdos. Is it a brief glimpse of his 'package'? Is it a 10 sec soundbite about how is is finally going to think about maybe probably sometime in the future before he dies write something vaguely resembling a musical composition on a piece of paper while in the vicinity of somewhere adjacent to some equipment possibly approximating electrical circuits capable of sustaining music? Or is the rare picture of him driving through a drive-thru, and combing the WWW in astounded wonderment at what he ordered? Cause I'm really lacking in the understanding about this phenomenon.

Loons are the nutbaggiest.....

I'm absolutely moving on. I follow Journey and am more than happy with their latest incarnation. In fact, I think it's their best since 1984.

peridactyl wrote:the thought of Steve opening his mouth....
The only thing we'll hear is more bullshit a la "I never felt like part of the band" (when in fact he had almost complete control which was exibited by long layoffs, firing members and producing rockless albums like ROR) or "Don't crack the stone" (when in fact HE cracked the stone first by touring without Journey and singing Journey songs...but dumbfucks here yell at Neal and Jon for doing it even though they waited 22 years for Perry to tour with them!!!)

You can say that about that certain faction of fans no matter which celebrity you're talking about - I got curious once and peeked into a couple of fansites of other celebs and bands... someone sent me a link to one... it was a Simon Cowell fansite... And yeah, it was the exact same thing... posting pictures of him shirtless and drooling over them... they called him "Simey"... I mean...

Granted... I did this for a little while with Perry... I know went a little too far... then I started to see see things that weirded me out and that's when I went, "ok, wow... not going there". I started to feel like I was 13 again and it felt weird. Of course not everyone thinks or acts the same way and that's why you have some people who just keep it reined in (or at least private) and others are outside of celebs houses with white gloves and evidence bags looking for discarded Aquafina bottles and LORD KNOWS what else.

I saw a chick on a talk show who swiped crap from some star's room service tray (a spoon and a water bottle) and saved it for 15 years.

Well fuck me if i'm mistaken, but he really sounds like he did in his younger days on Trial By Fire now don't he?
And i get sick of all the BS about how he really sounds on TBF without offering any proof on this board whatsoever, of this so called FACT. Where is the proof in the pudding here. And if the proof is given, will that be true?
I am pretty sure that he could still sing the shit out of 99% of the so called greatest singers alive today, yeah even at 60.
He has definately had something done to his voice over the past year or so, whether its surgery or not, something has happened. Listen to the interviews, he sounds fresh with hardly any raspiness.
Everything is fuckin protooled to death nowadays anyway.

I don't know who the hell it was but it was CREEPY as fuck. This chick was only about a year older than me and she was crying and shaking and losing her mind like a 12 year old just TALKING about it, and she was actually proud of all the weird shit she did, sneaking into a hotel and stealing a used spoon. I couldn't believe anyone was nuts enough to brag about being a freak. There's a very clear line and on the normal side of it, she was NOT.

We already have. It's called Trial By Fire. :P

So there is no proof (even though someone on this board posted the actual proof of this a few months back), but everything everyone else is doing is protooled...sooooo which is it? Sorry to get your panties in such an uproar. Believe what you want to believe, I could care less. TBF was a crap release whether protools was used or not.

And that's YOUR opinion. I like 4 or 5 off that CD. Especially, 'When I Think of You'...STELLAR song.

Agreed. I bought TBF the day it came out. While I wasn't thrilled with some of the songs on there, I thought SP sounded pretty damn good for 10 years down the road. I was pleasantly surprised. As far as the tracks on TBF, I thought and still think some of them were just strange. If it weren't for Neal's whammy bar work on Message Of Love, I would love that song. His solo just ruins it. One More is another track I think has no place on that record. I don't really care for any of the 'rockers' on that record, which leaves me with nothing but ballads, but those are damn good songs.

It's amazing the difference in reaction you'll get when you say, "I didn't like Trial By Fire" or "Trial By Fire was my least favorite Journey release" compared to "Trial By Fire was a total piece of crap", especially in the face of people who happen to like Trial by Fire. Personal subjective opinions being expressed as though they are "fact" and not "opinion" are about the quickest way to get a flame war going. And sadly, Flame wars usually kill good discussions.

It's the same reason why your mom tells you to say "please", "thank you", to hold the door open for elderly ladies and to wait before everyone has been served before you start eating. Nettiquette 101. Keeps the peace going yet the discussions interesting.

Thanks for the lesson in Internet 101  I'm not the first, nor the last to call TBF crap. Actually to be specific, I thought some of the writing was impressive. I just thought the overall production value was awful. I think someone above described some of the songs as 'strange'. Which I would agree with.

Happy you've grasped the concept of internet sneering, but you also asked the question. I gave you an answer :P

I didn't really like the album either to be honest. I listened through it a couple of times and nothing really grabbed me. I keep meaning to give it another whirl, but I suspect it will come out the same.

My only desire is to see the guy live. (Ok, I'd also want to meet him) :)

Yeah, I totally disagree with Gunbots assertions. I'd prefer Journey get SP back at any cost. Arnel is one fantastic vocalist, and can sing circles around most, but there's only one Steve Perry, and he's unmatchable. I did prefer Arnels vocal on Only The Young on the remakes though. That's saying a lot.

I read that as well...just trying to give her the benefit of the doubt. But I shouldn't have. Especially after her long-winded "retirement" speech a few weeks ago. I knew she'd be back. She's nuttier than a fuckin' fruitcake.
