Album Discussion---"Trial By Fire"

So will Perry's voice sound better on his upcoming solo comeback CD. or worse than TBF. There is no question he struggled through this period on TBF. But will 14 years with no strain and rest help him including help from the Doc. At 60, is it possible he's captured some or alot of voice back?.

I think the music is what made Dream After Dream one of Journey's best works. It didn't need vocals.; What was there was just the right amount. It remains my favorite piece of Journey music....simply stunning.

It sucked. It was pitched as a rock record and was actually an adult contemporary one. Yawn ....

It was the the first Journey record that pissed me off the first time I listened to it. What a disappointment.

OK than Portland, help my belief that soon, very soon, SP will release his new comebacl CD. It would insure my positive attitude on here, that's for sure.

What pisses me off more than anything is he just has quit. You know how hard it is for me being a fan of his and his talents and i have to go back in time to enjoy it. I mean, he;s alive and he's doing stuff, c'mon for goodness sake.

Your telling me, my mom who's now 82, sang professionally and sang all over the U.S. It was 1977 and i was running orders for workers on my dinner hour and as i passed who i thought was a woman, a man offered me 2 tickets to a concert which he said was a new band and he was the lead singer. I couldn't go, i had to work the next day and i remember our family eating breakfast and the noon news came on TV and said a group names JOURNEY was in town tonight and they showed a pic and i freaked out. I said mom, that guy gave me a ticket to the show. They played a song (don't remember what it was) but my mom's jaw dropped. We were bitten and to this day, he's the best ever in my opinion, simply amazing.

think its pretty interesting that besides when you love a woman they chose when i think of you also to be included on the essentials release.plenty of great ballads on this album trial by fire.easy to fall is my favorite ballad on the album.

Sorry, BUT, there is a question about this so called "struggle". TBF is a fantastic album and his voice on it is awesome - always loved it - have gone back after reading a lot of BS on here and discovered that it just gets better with the passing years. Its a mature album and has more songs i can play over and over now, than Escape has for me.

To my ears he's struggling mightily to "rock" on that album. I Can See It In Your Eyes showcases vocal decay, hollowness and he's a bit thin sounding on the song. I'd bet anything that it was his decision to leave that song off of the U.S. version because he heard the same thing in his voice that I do. Message Of Love has the same problem. That songs absolutely rocks musically, but he simply couldn't soar at all and it made the song plateau quite quickly. Frontiers-era Perry (or even ROR-era) would have knocked that song out of the park. Instead, he hit a lazy fly to left.

Can't argue with that but since he doesn't have enough of his own yet, they can give this a try and I bet you that it will not sound sloppy at all. Just sayin'....

Yeah but they really have not moved on........until they can stand on the new material and not the SP vintage work....and I don't think it will happen. Those songs will always be how Journey is remembered, and is what they are still playing on the radio and in movies and so on and so on. I just don't think they will ever really come out of the shadow of "what was"

Who they once were is very much a part of who they are now. Why feel like they're in their own shadow? No one is on top forever, but that's no reason to make like what they do now has no importance.

Regardless of personal reasons they are out there for us because of us. Whether they appreciate us still showing up isn't my place to speculate. But they're there and it matters to this fan.

They are trying to slowly move on but you cannot abandon the classics no matter who the frontman is because that's what made you famous in the first place.

Arnel has been with the band for just a little over a year and like it or not they have accomplished a lot for such a short time; platinum album, sold out concerts and radio play.

That "living is the shadow" crap doesn't bother me because my Journey is Arnel but I am not loon enough not to recognize what Perry had done for the band.

What bother's people I think is that Arnel has the chops to do the job and they resent the fact that the band is moving on without Perry at the helm.

also, let me also remind you that it was Perry who turned his back so stop blaming my Neal. :evil:
