Essential Journey - RIAA Standing update

Postby Playitloudforme » Wed Mar 09, 2005 9:51 am

The Essential Journey went Gold (500,000) and Platinum (1,000,000) on the same day - 2/5/05.

Nice what an appearance will do.

I believe the date listed was just the last time the chart was updated. And I think the info is to show each level the CD has sold.

While trying to find out more about this I came across some more info I found interesting. "Multi-disc sets" such as Essential Journey need to meet the following requirements:

"Multi-Disc Set
Quantity:
Gold: 500,000 units. Package must include two or more Cds (or its tape and album equivalent.)
Quantity:
Platinum: One million units. Package must include two or more CDs ( or its tape and album equivalent.)
Quantity:
Multi-Platinum: Two million units. Package must include two or more Cds (or its tape and album equivalent.)

Requirements:
*Each unit within set counts as one unit toward certification.

*Minimum running time 100 minutes.
Requirements:
*Each unit within set counts as one unit toward certification.

*Minimum running time 100 minutes."

When you apply that, it means that Essential Journey only needed to sell 500,000 units to acheive Platinum Certification. I never knew that.

Also, I saw that music video longform only takes 100,000 units to be called "Platinum".

Sorry to bring this thread out of hibernation, but..

Time(3) only has to sell 333,000 units to go platinum?

28??

Yep, that looks right to me.

So a 10 disc box set only needs to sell 100,000 units to qualify. When you consider the increase in price, it makes sense.

OK, I'll take the bait.
You mean an appearance by THE VOICE  right, PlayItLoudForMe?

I think it was Tickner's showing up that shifted those hundreds of thousands of copies overningt.

Yeah I was wondering that too.. It does make sense...Didn't Springsteen start the whole Box set thing, with Live 1975-1985??

It debuted at no.1.

This original post, and the one by PF, were designed to say Essential Journey sold over 500,000 copies shortly after the HWOF appearance. But in reality, the sales figures were simply updated after the appearance. And in the time between updates, which was several years, EJ sold another 500,000 copies. That is cool...but it had nothing to do with the HWOF appearance.

Red, the Walk of Fame helped. All the members there, including Perry.

Of course it helped. All members were NOT there, either. Greg Rolie, please pick up the courtesy phone, Mr Greg Rolie. Fleishcman was there too, and Dunbar.
How many copies did Gr Hts +5 shift that overnight?
