What is the deal with Perry?

Andrew seems to have some inside info on why Perry will or cannot rejoin Journey. I have to assume he cannot sing anymore since he does not tour in any capacity nor is contemplating a return to the band. It seems like this is now or never for him to get back into the game. The band needs a singer and a spark, SP needs an audience. They are not getting any younger. You would think SP misses the limelight somewhat.

as much as i would love for him to rejoin the band i do think he is satisfied with where he is in his life and i also think there might still be some lingering feelings between him and the others.

It's only speculation on my part that Andrew knows more about SP's status than he is letting on. He is always quick to state that SP will never rejoin the band.

Perry is in his 50s! Stop expecting him to have the health and talent of a 28 - 32 year old.
His vocal chords have aged. They are rough. He can still sing on tune, but he can't do what he used to do.
For goodness sake, he is approaching 60 soon.

Hey there, roycap...
I don't know if you're aware of this, but Steve himself posted this at FanAsylum:

Hello everyone. This is Steve Perry. As you are aware I have yet to launch my own web site and Fan Asylum is still the only credible site for official statements from me. Once again they have kindly allowed me to post this statement.
It has been brought to my attention that there is a rumor circulating that I am reuniting with Journey. I want to go on record as saying that I have no such plans whatsoever to do that. What you have heard is only a rumor.
I’m truly sorry for any disappointment this rumor may be causing.
I also would like to say that your faithfulness continues to warm my heart.
Thank you so very much,
Steve Perry"

From what I read, it's actually the 'anti-loons' that expect SP to have the talent of a 28-32 year old. I think the true SP fans (whether Journey or solo) would just give anything to be able to see him perform again. There are no extraordinary expectations, just a longing for that 'feeling' that he gives us when he sings.
What really bugs me is the people who criticize him for NOT performing, and then say he isn't because he can't. It's a no-win situation, and personally I couldn't blame him one bit if he never graced a stage again. I know of no other performer who is SO under the microscope as Steve Perry.

Hey Donna, no problem, just joking around.
In the Journey world, you're right.

Gotta' love how when someone doesn't do something anymore, it means THEY CAN'T.
Maybe the guy feels like he gave enough of himself publicly and now wants to live his own life.

Exactly, we need to quit expecting singer to sound/be exactly just like the old records and videos we keep enjoying. I think that's the big problem. We hold them in time such as a teacher does with a student.

The ONLY one that knows what is going on with Perry is Perry himself! However when he decides to share information about what is going on with him, it is through Fan Asylum, through Lora & Cindy.

And even then, you can't completely trust that. Half of what Perry says publicly (and considering 99% of his public statements are through Insane Asylum) is complete and utter bullshit or planned-for disinformation....

I trust Perry's information, and what is said from Fan Asylum to be true. What I do NOT trust is someone like you who does nothing but TRY to to discredit him all the time.

I think the whole deal with Steve is that he just doesn't have the passion to sing like he did while he was with Journey or with his solo career. I'm not saying he doesn't like to sing. He does as he does do backround work for others and does producing. But the passion need to sing like he did just isn't there. That's why we will not see him back on stage. Not until that passion comes back.
