More Journey talk...

A good mate and long time source of mine tells me the next Journey album is in the can, ready to go...featuring re-recording the classics. No new material as far as I have been told.

Why now and why was the idea with JSS scuttled? Talk is that Mr. Perry had a 9 year deal where he had a say in what the band could do with the classic material and that has only just now expired, hence the band can now do what they like....and this is what they like!

And yes, they are re-recording the classics.

Thanks for the info Andrew. I'm extremely surprised that a new album is ready to go so soon. I wonder if it'll be out in time to support on a summer tour. I guess it really was Journey that Shirley was talking about when he said that there were some good sessions going down. And re-recording the classics? Interesting to say the least. I'm curious how this will all play out.

So am I Dean. I don't think Jeff could have done that with his heart in it anyway. They should have let him lead them in a new direction. How pathetic they are. Image

Well, he could have and at least they would have sounded unique to his voice and not be a Perry imitation. What is the point hiring someone who sounds close to Perry to record Perry's already recorded songs. We can just listen to Perry.

Um, the new album IS the re recording of the classics, I believe. Of course it is ready to go soon, they better know their own music! They could've recorded the classics with JSS in a weekend.

The only re-recording I'd be interested in hearing would be the post-Escape stuff recorded with Jason Kelty. Kelty belting out ROR stuff would be like a younger Perry version. Anything else is just pathetic with JSS, or Arnel.

The new album are the dirty dozen re-recorded to ultimately butcher the originals. Perry was only able to delay this bastardization for 9 years. Thanks for delaying this for the 9 years Stevie. :D

Do you think so? I read Andrew's post to mean the next Journey album is ready to go AND they're re-recording the classics. Maybe he can clarify...

Now how in the fuck could they ever think they could improve upon the classics with Perry singing. Are they that fucking stupid? Holy shit. New material would at least be reasonable but re-recording the classics is just plain stupid. What a bunch of dumb fucks. I'm sure it will sell 58 copies at Walmart. Idiots.

Yeah I think so. It took them a longer time period of red-faced straining, rocking back and forth and grunting to push out Generations. I'd hate to think of the piece of crap they'd produce in a shorter time frame.

Re-recording old tunes is what you do to improve on a previous tune that you've improved on and that may not have been noticed much. Kind of like what Whitesnake did with "Crying in the Rain" and "Here I Go Again".

This ranks up there stupidity wise in the realm of "new coke" "classic coke". Totally fucking retarded. A new album of rehashed rerecorded classics. Do they even have any clue how fucking stupid and pathetic that is?

They rerecord the classics just to have something to tour on. They couldn't write new music if they're lives depended on it. They're old, tired and dead creatively. I'm thinking that this is the best they can do.

Uh Dave, do you really believe that shit? I'm mean really, are they going to improve on anything with their current incarnation? I don't think so. It will only lead to embarrassment. I actually feel bad for them ...

dave, in this case,, i REALLY thought Whitesnake improved them......but journey case.. ugh...its sorta like all the "acts" playing in vegas.. they are real excited about it ,, but vegas is where artists go to die... rerecording classic tunes may be the same...

Yeah, but you don't have to have an album to support to tour, so it still doesn't make sense.

I'm envisioning a two-CD package: the new album and re-recorded classics. Packaged together and sold for $11.88 at Wal-Mart, ala The Eagles. Except instead of 700,000+ copies in the first week, Journey should hope for 7,000.
