I am happy for Journey, but I can only think of why is this not Jeff making new Journey songs that are amazing? I just really want to know what happened that he got the boot? All I know is he is such an amazing front man and such an outstanding talented musician and in my opinion would have added such spark to any new music that Jon and Neal could put together. Just what is so great about Arnel or so bad about Jeff? I know this is over and done and no one consulted me or asked by opinion but it would really give me some closure to know what is going thru Jon and Neal's heads and why they made the choices that they did. If it was all business and money then just say so, or if it was creative differences then say that or if Arnel is kissing Neal's booty and Jeff didn't then say that. I just want to know!! I am planning to open my closed mind and give the new stuff a chance but it better rock my socks and not put me to sleep. I do so hate love songs and elevator music and I never liked Trial by Fire, it was just to mellow for me so if the new stuff is like that then I will just be moving on.

I was going to make a similar post. Obviously there was more behind cutting JSS than any of us know. I would bet even JSS doesn't really know because of the way they treatd him. It seems to me something did not jibe with Neal and Jon to fit with their "plans" for the "future" of Journey.

Great questions, but we will never hear an explanation.

Is it possible the voice just didn't match the direction the group decided to go on with? Seriously, as good as JSS is on his own material, do you really think he has "the voice of Journey" ? Arnel has that classic sound, as does Jeremey.

Well I'm very happy for Arnel. I hope that I've been very neutral on this site, because I have been, not siding with anyone inparticular. Someone once thought that I was Arnel's brother or something like that previously on this site. And getting down to it, we are very close. I consider him my brother and I also consider the rest of the AMO Band members my brothers and I will never betray them.

With that said, I've known Arnel personally. I've also known Uly (refer wiki) personally. I was there with Arnel and AMO back in the 80's during the Cal-Jam days.

What are you going to see on the next Journey Album? I can't really tell for sure. But what I can say is, Arnel has a vocal trademark. He has the ability to hit the high notes and beyond and to hold those notes for prolonged periods of time. Watch for that trademark to be incorporated into the new songs that will come out on the Journey CD, they just may be there.

We all should be very happy, rock may be returning as we all know and love it. It's not going to be a fly by night grung style that sounds like ass. It's going to be rock the way we all loved it back in the 80's, now in the new age.

I'm very happy for my brother Arnel from the AMO Band family to finally make it......Arnel deserves it. He's loved singing these songs with all his heart for so long, and with all of his passion, he performed on stage with all of his heart and soul and it's now his time to shine as a brilliant star upon us. And I'll be right there to watch him, this time in the audience.

That WAS the explanation. They wanted it to sound like "Classic" Journey. That's what they said. Might've used "legacy sound" in their press release.

I am starting to think that they hired JSS but the Walmart thing came up. ASnd faced with the difficult progress to be made with JSS and the EASY payoff with Walmart, they opted to find someone who could get them a paycheck...

Maybe Jeff was just too good looking.

Now I know how everyone felt when Perry was replaced with Augeri. I want to know what really happened! I don't want Neal and Jon's story, I don't even want Jeff's story (though I'm more inclined to believe it considering Journey's track record with singers). I want the truth!
Yeah I know... never gunna happen.

Whatever happened, Jeff should not have been treated the way he was. Journey may have to earn back my respect but Jeff has it forever.

That being said, good for Arnel. This is certainly a chance of a lifetime for him and I hope it's not completely ruined by the aforementioned events that have left such a bad taste in our mouths. It seems like the one who suffers most in these situations is the new singer.

When/if this new album is finally released I may get it out of curiosity. Arnel has his work cut out for him though. I for one loved Trial by Fire and am having a hard time accepting that they could make an album better than that with a singer they've never worked with before. Did that make sense?

Anyway...

In the the interest of self preservation, Arnel may want to consider blocking Youtube from Neal's computer.

No, JSS didn't sound like Perry - period. Have a listen to "Coming Home" off of Soul Sirkus' World Play, completely Journey-esque.......that could have easily come off of a classic era Journey cd.

I know, that is the downer of it all, there was such promise there. I'm sorry, but Ohsherrie's avatar has never been more appropriate than it is now. Their new catch phrase is going to be "I can't believe it's not Perry!".......heck might even end up owing the "I can't believe it's not butter!" people, $$.

don't get me wrong, I would've liked to have heard new studio stuff with Jeff at the helm. But if you're looking for the 'legacy sound', he's not even close and that's what they said they wanted was the legacy sound. There's one track that JSS did with Neal (there was a video with JSS playing bass and singing) and it was a killer track. When I heard it, I was really excited about the future (even though I'm a huge Augeri fan).

Say what you want, but Perry's voice IS the sound of Journey. It ain't Schon's guitar, it ain't Cain's keys. It's Perry. Having a guy that sounds close to Perry (augeri, arnel, hunsicker) is going to sound a lot more like Journey than a guy that sounds nothing like them.

Thank you..that is exactly what it probably is.. The way he was outsted isn't right.. Maybe they were going to tell Jeff,but maybe someone leaked it and it got out before they could talk to him,then the guys were like oh shit,what do we say to the guy now? Who knows,all speculation.. Jeff is a great singer,just not right for this band..And I love Journey and Jeff..

PS.. Maybe Jeff has some tendencies that the guys couldn't deal with and just couldn't do it with him..? But,I'm sure its all Journey's fault..
