I just wanted to gauge what you folks thought where on the charts Journey's new CD will debut.

Shatner could release an album thru WalMart and debut in the teens.

Unless you're the lastest Pop Tart on The Block, I don't see any of our type of music cracking the top 50.

LOL...I believe it.
And to that point - why is a Wal-Mart only deal so good for these artists like The Eagles for instance?

Debbie
the only way they debut higher than 30 is doing a SNL, LENO or LETTERMAN all in the same week..
or if OPRAH were to be a fan.

It is my understanding that they have a nice pre-release media blitz they're finalizing. This does not include Ellen.

Even Judas priest debuted their last album back in '05 in the teens I believe...

Lynard Skynard should release an album thru WalMart. Every customer who shops there would probably buy one.

GQ, Ellen, the McWorld marketing power of Wal Mart...
Top ten.
Wouldn't even matter if the new music sucked, which it doesn't.

THAT sounds the most likely.
It really isn't where it debuts as much as what happens once it is ON the charts...kinda like a movie debuting at #1 and then sliding into oblivion in a month...
Like HULK in 2003....

I dunno. I honestly do not see Journey benefitting as much as the Eagles did with the whole Walmart thing.
Keep in mind - aside from the absence of Don Felder (which has been for a while now), people know what they're getting with the Eagles CD: songs written and performed by Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Timothy B. Schmit and Joe Walsh. No surprises, no change in formula.

I don't think they have the option whether to lip or not.

Yea, it's clearly dictated by the show, all perfectly timed out, etc.
So stupid that "Dancing W/ The Dopes" show.

Survivor and Def Leppard both did the listening audience a
huge favor. Rather than having people scurrying for the exits with their hands over their ears resembling fans of a European soccer team that lost, they lipped instead. Great decision by the powers that be on ABC.

I easily see this debuting in the Top 10. Remember, Def Leppard only sold 55,000 units to get #5. Revelation should sell more than that in the opening week. Worth repeating is what will happen following the debut. Journey might get a big debut, but if they don't keep up with some more promotion and appearances they will fall away fast. Even with the AC stations picking up on AATY, the radio support just won't be there to drive future sales of the CD. And Journey will be in Europe doing their mini tour during the first month of sales. There might be a resurgence when the US Tour starts, but other than the tour I imagine all other appearances will cease.
