R.I.P. Toto.

One of my all-time favorite bands got laid to rest today.

I never even got a whiff of a chance of seeing them... at least Luke will soldier on with what will probably be a brilliant solo career... he's already done a great job with his first four solo releases!

Spinning their swansong Falling in Between as we speak. :(

It's a shame but boy did they bow out with style and dignity.

Finally. Now clean out Toto's sparse forum and change the name to Foreigner, please. :)

Will Foreigner EVER release a new album?

Dunno, but they sound great. Sorry to hijack the thread. Back to Toto.

Sorry, Drew, I know you must be bummed.

Gotta hand it to Luke. He doesn't mince words. In his official statement he pretty much says above all else, the camaraderie TOTO once shared is out the window. Refreshing to hear a band leader cut right through all the bullshit. When put in such no-nonsense terms, you can't really find fault with his decision.

One more album would be nice with Fergie, Bobby and Joe.

One more studio-only effort would be awesome.

HOWEVER, if they don't, I think Falling in Between is a perfect way to go out. The band really went out on top I think.... FiB is their best record in my opinion, and Mindfields is a personal favorite.

Nah, I know Drew loved it to death, but I think the hit-to-miss ratio of FIB is equivalent to Generations. Mindfields, Seventh One are both great, so is Isolation. I even dig Fahrenheit. Watching Jean-Michael Byron on YouTube reveals he wasn't that bad at covering Biobby's songs, at all.

Much like Schon is Journey, so Lukather is Toto.

Both are versatile and phenomenal guitarists and songwriters with decent singing voices to boot (screw off John).

Neither have EVER missed a gig for their respective bands in over 30 years.

I had no idea they were running a last lap, when they were here in Manila just this April.
Everyone was all praises for their performance.

Definitely sucks... I do feel like Falling In Between was a bit overrated around here. It's a good effort with a few killer songs, but definitely not up in my top 5. I much prefer Mindfields as far as the recent Toto canon goes.

Not really sure how it's any different than Journey.

The guy playing the keyboards isn't an original. Then again, neither is Cain. Paich was still playing on the records though ... just stopped performing.

The guy playing lead guitar is original. NS is original.

The original lead vocalist came back. Journey has someone singing lead vocals on songs someone else made famous in the first place.

Journey does have an original bassist. Toto's been through a couple.

Journey has been through numerous drummers. Toto was on number 2, replacing a legend who died with another legend.

Not really sure it makes sense to say "toto isn't Toto" when Journey isn't really Journey by the same definition.

Luke wears his heart on his sleeve and says what's on his mind. He later said that he and Paich patched it up.

The station I was listening to on the way in to work this morning played "Hold the Line". Afterwards, the DJ talked about how Steve Lukather had announced that the band was breaking up and would never play together again. He said that it came as a shock to long time fans....who were not aware the band was still together.

Which is all the MORE REASON Schon needs to ditch this "psuedo-Journey" crap and get with Luke and form a MONSTER band with guitar work the likes never before heard.

I dunno....Toto has had 2 people in the band replaced in the last few years (keys and bass). With the exception of the lead singer controversy, Journey has been stable for 10 years with the same people in the band....and the list of singers probably would be shorter if they didn't have to find someone in the middle of a tour--kinda narrows the available people if you have to leave immediately for several months.

Anyways, as far as the regular fans of the band are concerned, Cain might as well be original as he was there when Escape hit bigtime. When you are with a band for 25+ years, I think you have earned your place, regardless of whether you were there when the band first came into being.

I saw it coming....in fact I just talked about that a couple of days ago....
Too bad, but when Mike P. wasnt able to do the last tour it was strange to see Toto without a single Porcaro in the band or at least with Paich...

glad I saw them in 06....

Lukather Interview

Here's a snippet of what Luke said regarding JSS....

AAM: There was a rumor of you doing some work with Jeff Scot Soto. Is that still a possibility?
SL: That’s a very real possibility. As a matter of fact, we’re talking about putting together an All-Star project. But that wouldn’t happen till the end of 2009 because I’m pretty much on the road until the end of summer 2009. It takes a while to get really great guys together. I’ve talked to a few people who are very interested in doing it. Jeff is one of the great vocalists of our time; this guy should be a superstar. He’s one of the great talents.
