You know, I always thought that Wal-Mart didn't release sales figures, but it seems that I'm wrong... Looking forward to the results.

Wal-Mart doesn't report their sales data to Soundscan, which counts albums sold. The RIAA charts are based on albums shipped.

This is the exact reason I had an issue with TBF being platinum at release. They didn't sell 1,000,000+ albums, they just shipped them.

Over 88,000 is a good number for the week if that is the case--- 110,00 is wishfull
thinking!!

Nice number, although not a *huge* fan of the new music for whatever reason...I did buy it and
its cool to see Journey charting again. Maybe in time i will grow to like the new music fully!!

Did Generations really sell less than 80,000 total?

I know it didnt do well but that sounds REALLY low.

Journey is sitting at #3 right now with 28.66% of sales reported. Since Journey is only being sold in one market, it will probably go down a few spots when other albums sales start coming in. According to Hits Daly Double, 61,311 units sold. I'm not sure if more will be added.

You’re right that the RIAA only count units shipped and not sold, but these figures have nothing to do with the charts.

The Billboard charts are based on units sold and tracked through Soundscan. Wal-Mart does report their sales to Soundscan.

Until November of last year the exclusive releases that they had were not allowed to chart due to a Billboard rule. That rule was altered just before the Eagles exclusive came out.

Generations sold piss poor at retail because they gave it out at concerts before it even hit the market. They probably gave away 400,000 copies. This limits the number of people who would purchase it at a store. Sanctuary also did not promote the record at all because of this. Only die-hard fans picked up the record.

actually a surcharge was added to my ticket , so the 7000 at my show would be considered sales, but i dont believe journey reported these.

They didn't report those, both Schon and Cain said they were concerned more with getting Generations out to as many as possible rather than forking over to have the concert ones certified.

So the retail release debuted in around the 150s when it came out that October.

With Walmart being the biggest market, I think it might do better than what some people think.

Journey has moved down to #5. 40.13% of sales reported so far. Units sold did not change, still 61, 311.

Can someone please tell me when exactly did Walmart become the CD sales mecca, opposed to the outlets that are really known for music sales (Best Buy, Circuit City, FYE, Borders, Barnes & Noble, I-Tunes)?
