wow..it's been a long time since a movie made it into my personal bottom 3. This movie is just plain bad. Mark Wahlberg's acting is so frickin lame, constrained it's laughable. No special effects, nothing scary at all. Seriously, the first 10 minutes were somewhat interesting and then it went downhill from there very quickly. Read the reviews, this one is a bomb. I was REALLY hoping for an incredible movie, I was ripped off. I'm not even going to recap the movie here, just a total waste.

I couldn't believe how bad his (M. Knight's) last movie was. I kind of figured Theh Happening might not be very good when the push to see it was "his first rated R movie". LOL

I might watch it on DVD, but I still haven't seen Ironman or Indiana Jones, so I'm definitely doing those ASAP.

M. Night Shyamalan had a few good ones (6th Sense, Unbreakable, Signs was ok, and I even liked The Village) and then it seemed to have went a little too much to his head. He even cast himself as the savior-like character in Lady In The Water, which was one of the most self-indulgent and horrible films I've ever seen, along with everything David Lynch has ever done. I think he's become every bit as much a hack as TNC is on politics. His formula has run its course, and I won't be seeing it.

Shyamalan's rep keeps getting worse with each dud he puts out. Disney was right to drop him.

Were people in the audience laughing hysterically at inoppurtune times? That movie was the most bizzare thing I have ever seen. Considering his last two movies bombed, I have a feeling his days in Hollywood are numbered.

Unbreakable was good with great acting but it was wayyy too loooonnnnnggggg.

great ending though. but too long.

I thought the happening would be good, what a bummer its a dud.

I thought Lady in the Water was the worst big budget studio film ever.

Now The Happening has taken that crown.

"Sixth Sense" was an overblown Twilight Zone episode with an ending that gave itself away within the first ten frames.

Maybe someday the media will lead you by the nose and get you excited for the next "reincarnation of Hitchcock" or whatever is the most convenient buzz slogan to rile the hopes of non-thinking dupes like you.

I had high hopes that after his last two outings, the studio would reign him in and not give him as much free reign. The first 3 were decent because he was being produced. More likely that the Emperor has just "run out of gas"- His first three films were all very good (UNBREAKABLE was great!) but I think that's just all the guy had in him. Compare it to music- how many bands have one great album and seem to disappear after that (Guns and Roses? Boston? Anyone?)

Alas, we peasants are obviously as intelligent as you! After all,who else can figure out the plot less than a half second into the movie! I assume you had it figured out between when the words "the" and "sixth sense" appeared on the screen?

I've found him on a sliding scale myself. I loved SIXTH SENSE and UNBREAKABLE (I loved the Twilight Zone too). I thought SIGNS was ok. Didn't like THE VILLAGE and rather hated LADY IN THE WATER.

The original name of this movie was "The Green Effect" which should tell you the plot of the story. The story itself is...ok...it's just the delivery, pace, overall "entertainment" value, etc, is all so low you just sit there realizing you would have a better time at a funeral. I could see this being trimmed down to a 30 min public service announcement being played before a real movie. The "R" rating was probably due to one scene involving a man and a lion and 2 arms in a zoo. Seriously, this movie's budget all went to Wahlberg, otherwise I didn't see anything at all to make this a big budget summer movie. BIG let down....

For a "Big letdown" movie, go see Indiana Jones. I saw it a couple of weeks ago and, even though there were some good parts, it SUCKED as a whole. First movie I've gone to see since TransFormers, and it BLEW. Go Figure. At least when I get the DVDs I can say "This movie sucks" from the comfort of my own home.

If you want to see something good, read The Cell by Stephen King. Similar, if not BETTER concept and a hell of story. I couldn't put that book down. Based on the movie I saw last night, M. Night performed a little plagarism.

On second thought. Is it really fair that we heap all the blame on Mister Shamaylan? The studio gave him Marky Mark as a lead actor. If that movie had lasted five minutes longer, I'm sure he would have skimmed down to his Calvin Klein undies and sung "Good Vibration" like he wanted to take you on the floor.

Not a problem. I'm thinking of going to see Ironman...but I think I'll wait for the dvd. I still hate going to the theaters.

Wow - I was really looking forward to this, but you have confirmed what I read all day today in reviews!

How sad. I guess when you start with Sixth Sense, it's hard to keep it up.

I may still see it just to say I did - is it really gory?

It says a lot about M. Night that I was willing to see it even if it was gory!

Not in the "first ten frames" obviously, but close to the end. It's been awhile since I watched it, I think I figured it out during one of the school play scenes. In any case, I've never really felt Shamalamadingdong (as Stern calls him) truly deserved the hype. He's not the auteur he's cracked up to be.
