I'm trying to get through this one but it is not as good as Storm of Swords. Supposedly a TV series is being made by HBO for the Song of Ice and Fire Book series but I can't see how it will translate well to Film. Any one into The War of the Roses historical period might like this as it's like a fictional reinterpretation of that era with a little magic thrown in.

I've never read anything of his, either. That's why I'm asking. Anyway, he's got two initials, so he HAS to be good.

Yes! Go ahead and read it. It's a good one. (The book that Gunbot posted above is the 4th book in this series, if I remember correctly).

Also, check out David Eddings and Robert Jordan (if you're brave enough to delve into a 12,000 page series, that is).

Feist is also solid as mentioned above - I'm working through one of his series at the moment myself.

Ah, I forgot about Eddings....I've read The Elenium, and the Tamuli.....but never got to the Malloreon, or the Belgariad.

How are they?

Better than anything else he's done, seriously. The Belgariad and the Malloreon are my favorite books. Stay away from his recent "Dreamers" series, though.

Yes, The Wheel Of Time. It's outstanding, but it does take patience. Each book is close to 1,000 pages. Jordan actually passed away last fall while working on the final book. He knew he wasn't going to make it, so he told the rest of the story to his wife and editor, I believe, and left tons of notes, so a ghostwriter could finish up for him.

Hopefully they can do a good job. Christopher Tolkien Really made it his life to finish his Fathers work with LOTR

I did, too, but in the last few years the quality has really gone downhill. I couldn't even get through the last couple I started. Oh well.

By the way, I LOVE your avatar. Does that make me an even bigger geek?

Thanks. Yeah I always liked that movie but I've been getting more into TOS lately so I busted it out and LOL'd. Best Trek film.

The Martin books are very good, but you've got to pay attention and don't take too long of a break in between them. The Belgariad and Malloreon are Eddings best, much better than Elenium ones. For the best read, start on the Katherine Kurtz Deryni series, there are tons of them and will keep you in books for a long time.
