OT - Thank you, George Bush - gag

It's common knowledge that G.W. is in Japan for his last G8 summit. The news has been showing protests all over the country because of it. I guess they don't like him over there any more than most people here do. My 17 year old son has been in Japan for the past two weeks visiting a friend of mine. He was casually walking to a train station the other day when he was stopped by a cop asking him what he was doing. It seems like the police are suspicious of Americans that aren't in the typical tourist areas right now. Since my son didn't have his passport on him to prove that he was in the country legally, he was "escorted" to the local police station for questioning by 5 of Japan's finest. His Japanese is somewhat limited, and the cops spoke no English. After about an hour, they finally found someone who spoke enough English to ask him why he was getting on the train. Once they realized he was only headed to the Imperial Palace to sightsee, they let him go, but not before scaring the pants off the poor kid. How many days before Bush is gone??

Perfect example of how "everything" is Bush's fault. Is this CNBC reporting?

So...George Bush stole your son's passport?

Nope - his passport was back in the room he rented while he was there. The cop told him that he was an American in an area of Tokyo that most Americans don't bother going into, and that made them suspicious of him.

Can someone tell me what this has to do with Bush?

It's always been that way in Japan when they have important dignitaries there from other countries. I was there when they buried the Emperor. I was speeding past an Air field one night with my spring cut, green neon headlights celica, when this Darth Vader lookin dude jumps in front of my car. I lock up and slide sideways right up to him. A bunch more jump out the bushs and start tapping on my windows with long ash sticks they cruise around with. They were asking me where I was going so I start tapping my armed forces sticker on my windshield to show I was a service man. Finally one of them ask me in point blank broken english where I am going. I lift the six pack of bud off the passengers seat and say " I go get stinko" (Japanese slang for drunk). The guy takes my sixpack and go's "Iku"(go). I ruled out there lickitysplit, minus my sixpack but happy to not have to spend the night on a tami mat in a prison cell. Anyway it has nothing to do with their hatred for Bush. They started hating us when we devalued the dollar againt the yen to alter the trade deficit, thats's all, The same reason the Germans got pissed at us.

The cops told him that he was suspicious because he was an American in an area that most tourists don't go into. Because Bush is there, they were on heightened security and told to look for Americans that looked out of place. My son just happened to be in the wrong place and got stopped because of who he was. He had spent the previous two weeks wandering around Tokyo with no trouble. As soon as Bush was in the country, suddenly he was suspicious.

Sorry...that's a load of horseshit. If they had found a Russian they would probably have told the dumb sod that he was suspicious because he was in a area Russians don't go and that because the Russian prime minister was in the country they are suspicious.
Oh and tell your son when in another country to keep his passport on him at all time, it's COMMON FUCKING SENSE.
Sounds like your son made a mistake (not keeping his passport on him) and had a run in that if he would have had his passport would have been over in a minute, rather than getting taken to the police station, and you are somehow trying to blame the President for your son's carelessness.

I think Bush is the biggest jackass of a president this nation has EVER seen! The guy has run the country into the ground, presided over the worst economy that any of us has ever seen, and can't put a simple English sentence together! Having said all that, I'm a bit perplexed what your son's run-in with police on foreign soil has to do with that dope

So, If Obama or Hillary were there instead he wouldn't have been suspicious? Just askin!!

There is nowhere to go but up from here. Regardless of which candidate wins the election, this country will be far better off - as will the rest of the world - with W out of office.

Things can always get worse...and they will eventually. Prices will continue to soar, and there will be more wars.
Regardless of who's in office, someone will think he's/she's the worst ever. (Btw, how many of us know everything about all the past Presidents? Not a single one of us.)
I'm just thankful that I'm an American. Think of all the politically & culturally repressed places in this world. And yeah, $4 gas sucks, but at least most of our roads are paved and we have nice cars. And yes, I'd take a $hitty economy over the threat of military aggression right here in my front yard.

Bingo! Being on foreign soil without proper ID was the mistake...nothing else.
Blaming someone else for your own damn problem is laughable.

Japan is not America, tell your son to be responsible and stop blaming others for his mistake.
You as a mom should know better too.

In addition to what Ross just said, why would they be concerned about stray AMERICANS? If Bush is in a foreign country, they better be more concerned about the natives that don't want him there. They are going to be the ones who want to do him harm.

In a monogamous society like Japan, Westerners stand out like a sore thumb. Russia and Japan have never signed a peace treaty, and the poisoning of an agent in London shows that espionage is still a reality in todays political games. White guy, no I.D.? they did right to run his ass in. What good is a passport if you don't carry it.

Culpable or not, why anyone would waste the keystrokes rushing to defend George Bush is simply beyond me.

It's called "fairness", something you apparently aren't familiar with. If Bush is at fault for something and someone calls him on it, then so be it. If he is not at fault and someone falsely accuses him, then he deserves being defended as much as the next person.

You're all too eager to carry his jock no matter the high crime or misdemeanor.
Who the fuck are you kidding.

Give me a break. I've defended him here when I thought necessary and I've voiced my dissent when I disagree (border security, immigration, spending, war mismanagement, and more). Take off your BDS-colored glasses and quit using your selective reading skills for once in your life.

Say George Bush is in France. I go to France and for whatever reason the police feel I need to be questioned and I don't have my passport, which causes me problems.
As an adult, that is my responsibility and my fault.
The fact that
any President of the USA is in the country would be immaterial, and they would certainly not be responsible for my behavior.
It doesn't have to be Bush, substitute any other name of a President (past or future, if you like) and it would not change the bottom line.

Glad to see Nixon’s broadside against the liberal media bogeyman still lives on, close to twenty years after his death.
The media has given this president a total pass.
