I think however that since the table is a katatsu table, maybe there is some trickery. The table has heating elements built into it, thats why you see the blanket to hold the heat under the table. If he heated up the kernals before putting them on the table it might be enough to pop them from the table's heat but I'm not sure. Those tables can get pretty warm.
