Who are the few, in your eyes, qualified to step up to the plate and do so?

Just checking Prog...are we talking similar caliber singers in the AOR/melodic rock field or is it an open playing field?

Often imitated, never duplicated.

It'd be tough to find anyone on the same general plane as Perry, let alone equal to him.

How about, hmmm, throwin' some names here, say....

Ann Wilson?
Freddie Mercury?
James LaBrie?
Geoffrey Tate?
Lou Gramm?
Arnel Pineda?
Sammy Hagar?
Jeff Scott Soto?
Don Dokken?

In all seriousness, however, I firmly believe that Bruce Springsteen is just as good as Steve Perry. NO NO NO, not when it comes to pure vocal ability, Perry wins 135-0. I'm talking about "emoting," relaying and relating the song to the listener, bringing "himself" into the music.... I feel Springsteen is just as good at that as Perry, albeit with significantly poorer natural singing.

Haven't listened to much Priest to be honest...

....but I HAVE listened to alot of Dio, and that man, is definitely a class singer with great ability and his own style. Could probably carry a four-pack of Perry's jocks.

Springsteen has two vocal gears - angry or sad. Unfortunately both of them sound the same. As the term 'emoting' refers to a theatrical delivery I would say Springsteen does not really qualify. He is a good story teller though in that same way that Dylan was and the dudes definitely got legs career wise.

You would probably enjoy early priest - Sad Wings of Destiny and Rocka Rolla era. Progtastic!

Jorn Lande, Peter Gabriel and early era Jimi Jamison are worthy of washing, drying and ironing SP's Jock strap.

Gabriel like Springsteen is a great story teller but with a superior vocal ability and a flair for showmanship.

As for those flying the flag for rock - for range and power I would add Tim Owens into the mix and for versatility and groove Jeff Scott Soto.

Mix all of them up and you may have found a suitable replacement!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Peter Gabriel.

Speaking of whom, let's throw FISH into the mix...

Fish, man... I love me some freakin' Fish.

Some good picks there... I like Lande but I haven't really gotten to "appreciate" him yet, na mean?

Bruce "Fuckin" Dickinson
During Downtime from Iron Maiden, in the summer of 2006, Dickinson, a certified 757 pilot, flew about 200 UK citizens home from Lebanon during the Israel/Hezbollah conflict. Dude is all that and a bag of crisps. He can carry any jockstrap he wants.

I really like Maiden but Bruce is struggling to stay on key in a live environment more often than not these days. But for time served he's definitely up there with the greats!

He is definitely unpredictable enough to remain value for money for sure, especially if he gets upset...
