Arnel Interview

There has been some ongoing efforts from a few forum members (started by Rip Rokken) to bridge some of the divide between this forum and the official Arnel Pineda forum.

I for one welcome such moves as Arnel has shown himself to be a fellow of fine standing and humble origins and has by all reports been tearing it up on stage with the band this tour.
Arnel was unfairly targetted by a few here in the early days, but I think most of those folks have moved on and a few others have been won over by his efforts on the outstanding Journey album.

Part of the current efforts to perhaps give Arnel a chance to shine was a feature interview with me for this site. A request had been sent some montha go, so I sent another request this week.

It is with much regret and some sadness that I report that this request has been denied.

I hope that in time, it will be reconsidered. My door remains always open...

I'm sorry you were denied, Andrew. In a way, however, it is a testiment to your willingness to allow all views on the state of Journey affairs.

I do find it interesting that they would deny you now, but granted an interview with you in 2006, which was so soon after the tapegate saga broke, and if I understand history correctly, was very much played out here. Just doesn't make sense to me. Go figure.

These guys REALLY need to grow the fuck up! This "sorry, you don't like us enough" bullshit is embarrassing! I don't think I've EVER come across ANY group of artists who whine more about criticism. I realize that you haven't criticized them, Drew. I just don't get these guys. They're in the public eye. They should understand that with that, comes scrutiny. Sometimes the scrutiny is favorable, and sometimes it isn't. They should NEVER choose to grant interviews, based upon who their cheerleading squad is. I've never come across a group of misfits who are in more dire need of a public relations department! These fuckers just don't get it! Have they ever heard of the notion that there is no such thing as bad (and free) publicity

actually makes perfect sense if what the band and managemnet wanted was a way to force augeri out of the band.

I'm disappointed for you as a journalist not getting the interview, but for allowing us a forum to voice our opinions openly without fear of censorship concerning our individual attitudes about Journey, I salute your intregity.

Maria, I'd be willing to bet it was at least partially JC's input. He gets roasted here constantly (well deserved, might I add).

Keep up the good work, boys!!! 8)

Arnel got torn to shreds here pretty badly for a long time. I can't say that their decision surprises me one bit. Had Arnel been afforded 1/100th of the same "protection" Soto receives, that interview would have been granted in a second. I'm not saying that Andrew is a bad person in any way, but I think he made some poor decisions regarding the pasting Arnel took. At one time, there were literally 2 or 3 people sticking up for him while he got belted. Schon and Cain had a history of fuck ups to wage war against them at least in some capacity. The same simply cannot be said about Arnel. He's never done shit to anyone and the length of his professional, cultural and personal online rape was far too long.

That was months ago, Dan. He's had quite a lot of cheerleading going on for quite some time.

I think you're correct! It's just really inexcuseable. I realize that no band or artists wants bad things said about them. I just think that these guys really need to take a step back and look at the big picture. Whether people are critical of something or not, it doesn't change the fact that they are fans of the music of this band! That should be good enough. Hopefully, someone will boot Schon and Co. in the ass, and make them realize just how bad they look when they turn down an interview and give their reason as "sorry, you don't like us enough". Truly embarrassing!

while the slicing and dicing of augeri (who was with the band for 8 years and gave andrew many great interviews) and his fans was still occurring online here, andrew spent an entire weekend in california with the band and got the inside scoop. but now they don't feel he is a true supporter of the band? typical journey bullshit. they obviously think they don't need him and his site anymore.

Does this mean this new found love affair with the "Shoutbox" is over? Or is everyone going to be over there asking "Why" every other post? You know it's going to happen.

Dan's right.
I was lurkng here at the height of the racist ugliness last year, so let's not pretend none of it happened,
or that it was less vast than it was, or that Arnel didn't really mean much when he referred to past negativity
here.

That said...
I beleve Arnel himself will give you an interview.
Unless journey management muzzles him, he's actually okay with it.
You just have to understand that his limited free time is going to go first to those who
don't remind him of past and (I assure you) extremely painful unpleasantness.

Arnel's on record, regarding that intervew of yours that Rip's been trying to broker:

"Knellsky: I HAVEN'T EVEN HAD AN INTERVIEW WITH RYAN. HEHEHE. IT WILL HAPPEN"

Sorry to hear that for you, Andrew...but, this is a place where people can express their different feelings & opinions where other places won't let you. Doesn't it show something when we can read & know all the 'bad stuff that went down' and still love & buy Journey's music? Geez.

While both you and Dan make a good point about the band having good reasons to deny this interview, Maria makes a good point too....Why didnt the band deny Drew the interview in 2006 when Augeri wasnt being treated like a King here......
