Just as I thought After All These Years might sneak into the top 10 Adult Contemporary after being at #11 last week on the AC top 40, it falls back a notch to #12. Journey hasn't had an AC top 10 hit since When You Love A Woman in 1996. Still not charting on the overall top 100 chart - hopefully if it gets into the top 10 of AC, it will start showing up on Hot Adult Top 40, and the Pop Top 40.....Journey's last top 10 Pop single was Be Good To Yourself way back in 86.

Unless it gets a Grammy nod, I think it's on a one way ticket down. I have heard the song one time on the radio and that is it. On the flip side, I have heard "Who's crying now" twice a day or more, every single day for the last dozen years that I have lived here in L.A. Soft Rock stations will never let the Perry era Journey fade away. I heard an advertisement for the second Journey show at the Greek. Faithfully played immediately after that. I would have expected AATY but that wasn't the case.

I have heard it exactly twice, both times were on Sirius Starlite, which is a station that seems to play newer stuff only after its been out awhile. I never heard it played at all until last week, and the 2nd time yesterday. Every other station I listen to plays the traditionals.

The album overall has dropped to #36, which is several position down from last week (I hope I'm not mixing up the weeks.) I really doubt you'll see much, if any of a surge at this point. I haven't heard any new Journey songs played at all, since Journey released Trial By Fire in '96.

Unless they're Coldplay, U2, or Country-fied Bon Jovi, I think you might be able to just think your lucky stars they got as far as they did.

It was a good run but the games over, pretty much. Time to finish up the tour and get back in the studio since Jon Cain has a million songs sitting in his harddrive just waiting to recorded.

The album will continue to sell well. 13,000 is nothing to sneeze at...let alone in week 10!!! Ask Motley Crue (who I love) or any other older act how hard it is to sell 13,000 copies several weeks after your release. AATY is still going up in plays and I have a feeling another song is about to be released. It's mid-tour...perfect time.

I hear AATY at least three times a day here in NW Connecticut.

I finally heard "After All These Years" on the radio a couple days ago. First and only time. I have heard it played in the syndicated radio show "Delilah" but not on a regular format. It was quite a surprise. So if stations are still adding it, and just now starting to play it, it is possible thqat the song will hold on for a while...maybe even still get that top 10. I felt as disappointed about the timing too...so close!

This song will be on that chart for a pretty long time.

Yep, if you want to own the charts for a while, write a sappy ballad that will become a Wedding staple....just ask Luther Vandross(RIP).

I have been thinking about Kid Rock lately. He said recently that his record company wanted to release "In The Summertime" (that's the name, right?) as the lead off single for this album. His album came out last fall. Kid said this song was a perfect "summer" song and fought them to hold off. Now it is selling crazy!! There are a lot of factors for singles.

Journey is perceived as a ballad band, no matter how hard Neal tries. The success of the TWO lead off singles proves this. "Never Walk Away' isn't on any chart. But I got to thinking about image and Journey is usually also perceived as a 'summer' band. Their music is positive, up beat, "sunny". And of course, this is when they do most of their touring. But with the liklihood of "After All These Years" starting to ride down the charts Journey needs to think about another single. That single is going to be a "fall" or "winter" song depending on when they decide to push a new single. So I got to thinking that maybe "What I needed" is a good follow-up single. As much as I hate the idea of releasing another ballad, it is what the audience seems to accept from Journey. (Remember how much better WYLAW did than MOL, and to a lesser degree ATW did better than HP) "What I Needed also has a "wintery" sound to me. It is darker, dreary even. But you still have the positive lyrics and it is a ballad.

What do you think?

I know there is a wealth of songs with "singles" potential on Revelation. But what do you think would work best next? And when do you think they should make the move. AATY might be on the decline or it could still have life in it. After all, there are still radio stations adding it to their playlists. And it is not "fall" or "winter" mood yet. Should Journey refocus effort on NWA for now and wait to release a follow-up? Should they just move onto another song, up beat and catchy? I don't know yet.

I would go with TDTWT, it seems to be a favorite of most who have the Cd. Although, I cant argue with What I needed.
