Looks like Luke "gets it".

The following are excerpts from the most recent Steve Lukather (ex-Toto) interview. Is he referring to "Journey"?

Hmmm...

"Jeb: Do you think you will be accused of being self-indulgent?

Steve: I see it as just the opposite. If I was going to be self-indulgent then I would hire some guy who sounds just like Bobby and play the hits. Maybe other people want to do that sort of thing but I am trying to separate myself from it all. "

He goes on to say,

"...I don’t want to end up a bunch of washed up cats sucking the marrow out of whatever is left of the legacy."

Says it all.

Hm, I doubt he'd be taking a stab at Journey. He and Neal are good friends. I know he's been very adamant that he wants to play his own shit on his current solo tour, that he's tired of playing the Toto GH night after night, and doesn't want to be stuck being billed as "Steve Lukather plays the music of Toto!"

Be careful reading too much into something - you might not be seeing what you think you're seeing.

Neal craps bigger than Lukather. Toto couldn't fill a 1,000 seat venue on its last tour. IF they were drawing 3,000 let alone 15 to 20,000, don't kid yourself he would still be touring with Toto. The market told him Toto was dead, not himself. This is total spin.

Also, why does he need someone to sound like Bobby when he has Bobby? What's he saying there? Didn't somebody have a nickname for Lukather awhile ago?

I'm not sure if he is or is not thinking about Schon with those remarks, however, I will say that if Toto were 1/2 as successful as Journey that he'd still be playing Toto.

Thank you!

Just like I don't want to sing someone else's songs (in front of thousands) but rather play in front of a handful of people b.s.

I just hope Luke plays Ever Changing Times in its entirety when I see him next Friday.

You are WAY OFF BASE on the crowds Toto pulled in on their last tour. Much bigger than 1,000 seat venues.

Do your homework, ok?

PS This is not meant to be a "Luke vs. Neal" post...not at all! Both are KILLER guitarists.

In Europe, Toto is every bit as big or BIGGER than Journey.

Again, do your research.

They played the House of Blues in Chicago and other places comparable to that. They did NOT sell them out as I recall either. I ain't punking Toto either, I like them.

Again, you are focussing on the USA. Worldwide (especially in Europe and Japan) Toto is still quite popular.

And it also happened to fit the evening that I saw Toto play (instead of Journey at another venue, shortly after TapeGate -- Toto was absolutely incredible, BTW 8) ): Steve flubbed a little during a song and said that such FUs prove that everything they do is indeed live, unlike some other bands.

Hey, I'm just sayin'... We could all choose to associate any band with just about any quote any of us can come up with, depending how we tend to view things. :::shrug::: Doesn't really mean that said viewpoint is necessarily the correct one. But, as with just about every opinion, we're all allowed to have one, one way or another.

You would think this thread would be in the Toto Forum also but nothing. Alas that forum is on lifesupport despite all the people espousing their love for Toto in this forum.

Toto's O.K....... Their last live DVD was lacking on some of the songs though. I still love their greatest hits CD. I prefer Journey. Each to its own!

TOTALLY agree.

Love both "classic versions" of the bands.

Ummm...record sales, #1. Indisputable there.

Toto plays in front of 1,500 people at smaller-sized venues throughout Europe. Journey packs in 20,000 wherever they go.

No contest, dude.

And get over your hatred of the new incarnation of Journey. They will be around for a long, long time.

I don't pretend to be an expert on any of this (US/European/Asian audiences), but Journey is/was touring as a package for the last few tours, so I don't think numbers can actually be compared in this case. Toto (at least when I saw them) toured by themselves.

This is beginning to sound like a bunch of kids in a school yard boasting about how their dad is bigger than another kid's dad. My likes and dislikes have absolutely zero to do with a band's draw. 8)
