After hearing Randy Jackson's latest comments about SP...

I can't help but wonder if he's maybe actually PLAYING on Perry's rumored demos.

How else would he have heard the new stuff? They apparently just had "lunch" (Perry seems to like to meet for lunch ALOT)...why would SP have his demos there to listen to?

I think RJ might have been in the studio with Steve and could be a potential bassist for any future projects (yeah yeah...I know...what projects?!).

Thoughts?

Comments?

That would be fantastic. RJ is a great bass player.

It would be orgasmic to see/hear Perry come out with a jam packed
high profile line-up that had tons of punch and publicity behind it!!!!! 8)

I won't speculate, just enjoy when and if it occurs.

I think you're reading into it too much. But it does make sense from a marketing standpoint. Have RJ, who regulary comments that he played in Journey on American Idol, be in your band. He will publicize the hell out of your new CD on American Idol.

"Hey Randy, it's Steve. I have some stuff I wanted your opinion of. Wanna meet for lunch to hear it and discuss?"

I would buy a SP rock CD but not a schmaultz CD. I don't care how good his old stuff was, if he cranks out another FTLOFSM easy listening snoozer you can count me out.

This, maybe a strange question but I am going to ask it anyway. "why does it seem like SP has such a fear of singing again can anyone answer that for me?"

I don't think its a fear for him at all.Its just he is out living his life & enjoying himself. And if he has something to say in his music he will.Others will have another take on this i am sure.

My take is that he's always been his biggest fan. But today he no longer sings like he once did. He said that it killed him to mix the latest round of greatest hits thing because he heard 'steve perry' singing. So it pains him emotionally to sing today because he doesn't hear what he once did.

This is not to say that he can't sing today. I'm sure he sings very well for an almost 60 yr old that used to sing soprano tenor for years. However, he can't sing as purely and as high any more. Not a slam, just a difference.

So his 'fear', as you call it, is probably deeply rooted in delivering a song like he once did. And, add to it that he's always been emotionally insecure (felt he always had to prove himself), and he's in a constant uphill battle. I mean, if he felt he had to prove himself back in the day, how's he gonna do it today? Anything he puts out will get crucified with comments like "it's not 1981 anymore". (Which, btw, is absurd because people expecting a 25 yr old voice from a 60 yr old are just illogical, if not mean.)

If anything, his 'fear' should be public acceptance of being reinvented. And that's what he's got to do - reinvent himself. He needs to come out with something completely new, nothing like his legacy. He doesn't need to compete with Oh Sherrie, and he certainly doesn't need to compete with Journey. When Perry puts out new music, I hope like #ell he doesn't try to give us Perry circa '85. If so, he'll be setting himself up for failure. We better get today's Perry.

I've always erred on the side of "who gives a shit if he can sing as well or not?" He's STEVE FUCKING PERRY!!!!! Put the man on the road, pro-tools his ass up and let his fans give him the final curtain call he deserves. I'd say if anyone has earned a little vocal "help" over the years, it's Perry! (I'm not talking about another tape-gate, mind you. Maybe just a little nudge here and there from the sound man! 8)

Spot on. I could care less if I hear a 60 year old Perry sing his old stuff. However, I'd like to hear a 60 year old Perry put out something new that would give us one last celebration of the voice. I just wish he could come to terms with whatever it is that keeps him from conducting his craft.

Oh I totally agree. I think using technology to it's fullest is a good thing. And I'd bet that he's been offered big numbers to do this. But I'd also bet that his standard reply is that this is his choice, no one elses. And his being a perfectionist just wouldn't go for for it.

I guarantee you that HE is his own worst critic/enemy. HE keeps himself from doing it...not solely because of privacy or long walks on the beach. I bet his biggest problem is fear. Not that he really wants the old Perry, or that fans do, but fear of the unknown. Moreso than anything, he's probably just lost most of his confidence.

Completely agree. I wish I were more optimistic about new material, but just can't get worked up about it any longer.
