Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame

I visited the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame this week. Great museum, but certainly mislabeled as the Rock HOF. I don't consider Brenda Lee or Madonna rock and roll artists. Should be identified as the Pop/Rock Museum.

Journey clearly deserves to be inducted. These bands perservered, sold millions of records and were the sound of my generation: Kiss; Styx; Foreigner. How does Isaac Hayes (God rest his soul) make it before these icons?

Speaking of Journey. They will be inducted one day. Who goes into the HOF? Does Augeri and Castronova make the cut? Greg Rollie? Interesting discussion.

Rollie would be a definite. I also think Augeri and Castronovo would have to be in just because they have both had long tenures with the band.

Yeah they did but, they wouldn't be eligible to go in with Journey since their 1st release with them wasn't until 2001.

I'm thinking it would be Perry, Schon, Rolie, Smith, Cain, Dunbar. Those were the golden years. Just my assumption.

Sammy Hagar went in with VH and Roth. Artist has to had their 1st recording 30 years ago.

I think all members past and present should be inducted IF they ever get in.

Their rule is actually 25 years, not, 30, but ok... makes sense. All the examples I could think of (i.e. Lynard Skynard) had newer members who didn't go in because of not having recorded (prior to said band) period.

But, they were not there during the blood, sweat and tears time. It would be like getting rewarded without suffering any of the growing pains that's a hard row to hoe but,on the other hand they have put a lot of blood, sweat and tears of their own into helping keep Journey going and should not be overlooked.

Isn't Rolie already in with Santana? I am at the wrong place, is there more than one HOF for Rock?

Yes he is! I'm sure it could happen though. I would imagine Michael Jackson is in with the J5 as well as solo.

Cain, Perry, Valory, Schon, Smitty, and probably Rollie. Augeri and Castronovo have ZERO business in the Rock and Roll HOF, as members of Journey. They both seem like nice enough guys, but there isn't a single thing either of them has done, as a member of Journey, that would have a single thing to do with Journey being inducted into the HOF. As I've said here in the past, IF Journey ever gets into the HOF, it will be 100% based upon the Perry years, period, end of story!

Rolie is in the Hall w/ Santana.

In 1998, the group was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, with Carlos Santana, Jose Chepito Areas, David Brown, Mike Carabello, Gregg Rolie and Michael Shrieve being honored.

There are numerous artists in with both their band and solo careers: MJ; McCartney, G. Harrison, etc.

The rule is for the artist's first recording to have been at least 25 years ago. However, I'm pretty sure that doesn't apply to the members of the band themselves since Sammy was inducted with VH and he was only in the band from 86-to the late 90s and then again for a year to record a handful of new songs and do a tour.

Another thing I think worth mentioning here is that the Sammy Hagar with Van Halen scenario isn't remotely analogous to the Steve Augeri with Journey scenario. I think the Augeri fronted Journey sold a total of 17 cd's in 8 years

Also, let's not forget that "5150" (VH's first with Hagar) is one of their top selling albums, EVER, OF ALL TIME! Also, the subsequent releases with Hagar all sold very well. One other point...Hagar was 10 times the singer the guy he replaced was! The bottom line for me is that Hagar absolutely, positively HAD to be inducted with Van Halen, and absolutely deserved to be! The situation with Augeri simply isn't close. You don't get in, just for being a member of the band, (unless your name is Ross Valory), at a time when nobody even knew they still existed!

The rock and roll hall of fame is just like any other hall of fame... some of the players that get in you go right on and others you go WHAT?? Journey should be in already... it would be fitting
though if Perry got in for Street Talk and Journey had to wait 15 years more.

I agree with the Hagar comparison. Definately had a great deal of success and re-energized VH. The only thing going for Augeri and Castronova is longevity. Keep in mind Rolie was not part their greatest commercial success with the beginning of the Escape era.

I can't comment on Kiss, because I always thought they sucked and that Gene Simmons couldn't sing to save his life! Having said that, those guys were GREAT show men, in their day. Somehow, I just don't think any band who wore Bozo the Clown makeup will ever be taken seriously by the HOF. That said, one could certainly argue that Kiss influenced a lot of other musicians (one of the criteria the HOF supposedly uses).

Not True Dat.

KISS was REVOLUTIONARY in what they did. Well deserving of being in the HOF.

I agree with this, which is why Rollie is VERY borderline for me. I personally wouldn't include him, simply because I don't think his contributions to the band Journey warrant his inclusion. You could argue that he was an original member and was part of the band when they first realized commerical success, but he departed pretty quickly, after Journey was hitting it big. I'd at least listen to an argument for Rollie's inclusion. Arguing for Augeri and Castronovo is just plain dopey...even if you're related to them!

Journey is the prime example of what happens when you don't suck the Rock Critic Dick.

They will never touch the RnR HOF.

Who determines what band members get in? Do I remember reading somewhere that Carlos decided that Neal couldn't be inducted with Santana?

Yeah, Rolie would HAVE to be in. After all, he was part of the band when they had four consecutive platinum-selling albums.

Yessssss. 8)
I mean he was a part of the first SEVEN albums released by that band.
OF COURSE he would go in with Journey. Madness to suggest otherwise.
