You don't have to think. Could have been, was "Winds of Freedom" or whatever that wretched song with wretched vocals was called.

I mean when Journey booted JSS... who knows what that could have turned into. We will never know.

Life goes on. I'm not losing any sleep.

I thought Winds of Freedom was just another one of Cain's sappy creations? Forget the vocals. The song just flat out sucked.

THE VOCAL SUCKED TOO. At least Cain has proven he can write a great Journey song. Which he proved again on Revelation with AATY and TDTWT. I'm quite sure if those 2 great songs had the quality of vocal on WOF, they too would be earsplitting.

speaking for myself, I don't particularily care for the chorus in Believe in Me. Nothing really "wrong" with the song, but it doesn't jump out at you. Sure, both NWA and Believe in Me (not to mention It's Never Too Late) are somewhat derivative of Be Good to Yourself and each other, but at least the others have strong choruses. Actually, that's a problem I tend to find over most of the Lost in the Translation album--decent to good songs, but missing the chorus to send them over the top. Don't seem to have that problem with Prism album or the Talisman material, but the whole Translation album just kinda sounds the same.

Just my opinion to a rhetorical question...

Actually, I thought the vocal was fine. Less "Journey" than some because of the different kind of voice, but I don't think that's a detriment. Not a lot you can do with that song anyways. The only option would be to do a bunch of vocal acrobatics (which don't really help most of the time) or a lot of stylized vocal style a la John Waite or something (which doesn't help all that much either). Regardless, none of the above is going to make that song a classic. Perry, Augeri, Arnel, JSS or anyone else...you're just not going to make a great vocal there without strong material to start with.

I love Believe In Me. I think it's one of JSS's best vocals.

Great tune! But the one that really gets me thinking what could have been is Soul Sirkus' "Coming Home"......some great Journey stuff right there. :(

I think this song confirmed more "what magic would have NOT been there" with JSS, sorry. Journey is on the absolute perfect track with Arnel- period. But I do love you sig pic!

I like this one for the variation in range in his vocals. Hitting some pretty high notes there in a couple spots. :o

I agree with you in principle that I would probably prefer the current Perry-style of Journey over anything a JSS-style Journey could have done (but I'll really never know). IMO, that song "Believe In Me" with JSS is as good or better than anything Schon has done apart from Perry-style Journey.

Oh come on!!! We know what JSS and Neal "could have been" it was called "Soul Sirkus". Fans didn't support it enough, so it died. Neal and JSS gave there all and did some kick ass music, it's "our" (re: fans) fault we didn't kick it into high gear and buy enough of the cd's to warrant a huge tour, follow ups, etc, etc.

Believe Me In Me is an EXCELLENT song! Winds of Freedom was never written as a preview of what Journey was going to sound like. It was thrown together for the Virginia thing. Kind of pointless to even mention it.
