I originally started this under the impression that Loverboy's new CD came out this year....and I was going to vote for IT.....but then I saw that it had been released LAST Nov., and it had subsequently won last's years Best of.....so.

In other words.....I got nothin'.....

Oh hell....what's yours?

I guess I'll vote for this:

Man, you've really got a thing for flames you PYRO!  As far as my favorite album this year, it's kind of a toss-up...I love the new Whitesnake album, Journey's, and I'm a HUGE fan of the new Asia one! I also like Lukather's new album, but it does have some fillers in it. If Trevor Lukather ever releases his album (it's taking a LONG time to come), I think it'll kick ass.

I guess if I had to just pick one this year, it'd be Asia's. JMHO!

I like melodic rock stuff but I REALLY like progressive music. These two are my choices so far for CD of the year.

Radiohead's "In Rainbows" and Opeth's "Watershed"

Does IR count as this year? I could've sworn that was a 2007 release. ;)

So far (only ranking the ones I've listened to multiple times, obviously):

1. Metallica- Death Magnetic
2. Whitesnake- Good To Be Bad
3. Journey- Revelation
3. Asia- Phoenix
5. Def Leppard- Songs from The Sparkle Lounge
6. Steve Lukather- Ever Changing Times

(YES, I realize I STILL need to get Dokken, Motley Crue, Coldplay, Marillion, Opeth, REM, Mars Volta, Uriah Heep, JSS, and many melodic rock offerings)

Its been a great year - there have been 8 very good albums this year in my mind -- Heres my list in descending order

1 good to be bad- Whitesnake Amazing how that album sounds better than their 80's stuff. (and this is coming from a guy who is not a huge whitesnake fan) They backed it up with some great pefromances on the road too this summer. Best album of the year by anyone, by a mile

2 ALong Came a Spider - Alice Cooper- Best effort in 15 years. Vengeance is Mine, the song with Slash on it is just awesome. My neighbors hate this album because its on LOUD in my House every single morning

3Revelation - Journey- just great stuff to sing along with, good ole clean cut classic American Rock n Roll. Amen

4 Songs from the Sparkle Lounge Def Leppard. Couple classic brilliant Lep songs on here- e.g Bad Actress, Hallucinate,

5 Every Changing TImes Lukather - The most eclectic melodic rock album of the year. Its strength is in its Variety.

6) Beatiful Mess - JSS I actually dont like all of this album, but the tracks that I do like are absolutely outstanding.

7 Bring Em on- Tempest Wins the award for having the best cover of a Journey song this century on it.

8 Hope Harem Scarem why quit with an effort like this . Good grief, is there no fricken Justice In the WOrld

and heres af few DISAPPOINTMENTS OF THE YEAR-
JUDAS PRIEST. Nostradomus
MOTLEY CRUE- THE aints of LA
The New Nightwish Album-Dark Passion Play- No Tarja, no nightwish, this blows goats (or was this 07)

I think it's excellent. A friend of mine reviewed it, he has a better way with words than I do.

I loved Tarja because I m also a huge opera afficionado and I love the way she makes the two genres- opera and metal - mix

Within Tempation- Yes I do enjoy the Black Symphony - some good creative stuff

Tempestt close the album with a very unique (but interesting) cover version of Dont Stop Believing .

Well it must be a hidden track, or a bonus track.....cause the tracklist I'm looking at doesn't have it....and as far as Journey covers....Kelly Hansen's covers on the Journey Tribute are the best I've heard....

It is one of two bonus tracks. Best Journey covers are Kevin Chalfant's for my money.
