Journey Singer: Magazine Quotes Out Of Context
Reporting: Joe Vazquez
CONCORD (CBS 5) ― Arnel Pineda, Journey's youtube-found new lead singer, tells CBS5 News he is enjoying his "fairy tale experience" and that Rolling Stone Magazine's report describing him as "sad" and the concert tour as "cursed" was exaggerated.
"I'm having a blast up here on stage," Pineda said in Concord, as part of an interview alongside guitarist Neal Schon during a break before a concert Wednesday evening.
"I can't deny it. I miss home. I'm homesick, but... I've got the best gig in the world. How can I be so miserable?"
(A raw video is at hand.)

Thanks for posting. Taken Pre-Concord show. Hope this clarifies the issue of the RS interview, if ever there was one.

I guess I'm the only one who finds this to be a strange interview. Neal talking about "We're taking care of him", and "We bought him a laptop with a camera so he could see his family"! If you ever doubted whether or not Arnel was a hired hand...here is your proof!

Not following how this is proof of him being a "hired hand." They asked him what he wanted to make his life on the road easier. They offered a bus for him and his family, and when they couldn't come over to be with him, they got him a laptop. I'm not going to make excuses for the band or try to sugarcoat things, but I don't follow how Neal refuting his Rolling Stone image as a slavedriver by saying they're taking care of him, and then giving some examples of what they've done is proof that Arnel is a "hired hand."

Because if Arnel is being paid what he should be getting paid, why the heck would Neal have to buy the guy a laptop? Sorry, just seems odd to me.

Alright, I can see where you're coming from. But, if I was Arnel and could get a free laptop on Journey/Azoff's dollar - sign me up!

They probably had someone get it for him, as he's probably not had time to do it on his own. They seem to be taking the big brother helping the little brother approach, to me anyway.

Me too. That's exactly how I see it. And let me say this - good of Neal/management to set up this interview and give Arnel a chance to explain his side and clear his image a little bit instead of just letting the Rolling Stone article sit.

I think this is another example of what a good soul Arnel is...and again, he's being honest here and it's interesting to see Neal jump in and do a little damage control. I think folks in the JRNY organization were pissed at the RS article and this is a way of controlling that.
And I think they have done a decent job of damage control here. Nice to see Arnel in vision rather than print.

Yep. RS made as much drama out of it as possible. Where's the journalistic integrity? That's an everyday event with rags like that.

your grammar is wrong "you serious right now?" sorry but i don't know what you mean but if you're asking me to be serious right now "gimmeabreak" you are not a moderator of this forum so relax, can't you take a freaking joke. so what if it's my 11th post, is there a minimum post requirement here before you can say certain things?

Why not both?
Lapdance now, and I mean right now, right after the concert.
Laptop later.

I saw the original interview with AP and then the un-edited one, and wow how things change when you cut parts out. From what I took away from the unedited porition was that this guy was going through this "holy shit" moment that I'm sure anyone would've gone through in his place when he first engaged on that tour. I've been on a few mountain climbs where my body just goes "what the hell are you thinking" before it settles down and gets into a rhythm. I suspect AP has found this rhythm. But as I read the un-edited version, I'm just thinking "okay, AP is a human being that cares about family". I'd be wondering about him if he didn't
I've not read too much into the laptop thing as others have done. *shrugs* Other companies give me free shit during the course of my employment that I could've bought myself. Big deal.
So they gave him a laptop and...

AMAZING!!!
How some people reach like that is sheer lunacy. I know that us Journey fans are all kinds of crazy but a mind-controlling laptop that proves indentured servitude is a complete reach.
Arnel.... keep the homefires burning kapatid. Soon enough, you'll be smelling tuyo again.

Thats pretty much my gut feeling on that one to be honest.. Blatantly Arnel's honesty has ruffled a few fethers in 'Camp Journey' and this is them limiting the 'damage' or speculation..
