Trying to recapture a childhood.....

John from Boston brings up a good point in another thread.....sorry to name drop, John.

I've battled back and forth on how to ask this question without offending, but I concluded that whatever I say it is going to offend someone....

I just wonder if some members of this forum are a bit TOO involved with Journey. And by that I don't necessarily mean literally involved.

Mostly everything I used to like a kid - I just don't care for anymore. And while I still listen to Journey, I just don't get the urge to know very much about them personally. I don't know the names of Neal's ex-wives. Nor the names of his children...etc.

Journey is what brings us together. But beyond that, is there a point where everything blurs, and it becomes obssessive?

I really do not mean to offend.....please do not take it that way. :D

For me it's Lawn Darts .I find myself bringing them out less and less over the years. When did the fun fade away?

Sorry, I love the band. But difference is my life does not revolve around it. I like the statistics like some guys love sports memorbilia. I collect things I like. Far from stalking these guys. I had fun meeting Jon, but my life did not hinge on it. I don't know Neal's ex wives names. I love their music the best, but I own over 300 CD's from many artists. Far from obscession. I look forward to a concert, like guys look forward to a ball game. Good times to be had! I have yet to tire of it. But maybe someday I will. It is a hobby. So is art for me.

Yeah, some are too involved IMO. I came online knowing almost nothing about the members of Journey. Just knew I liked SP's voice and thought he was good looking. I found some facts and "heard" a lot of rumors about him. (Not too interested in the others 'cause...just cause.)

Do I need to know someone's been married umpteen times, their favorite color, whether they wear briefs or go commando..nope!

P.S. It's the song/music that was a part of my youth...not the band members.

Yeah, sort of like some guys I've known in the past who only will drive a Dodge or a Ford. That's how some people are, they don't see anything other then that one thing. I don't care one way or the other, I guess what makes them happy is what counts though. I'm sort of guilty in a way in regards to women.

I have told this story before. Only “discovered” SP and Journey in 2005 after buying and watching the “We Are the World” 20th Anniversary double dvd. His “look” and voice captured my heart immediately. Set out to research his and their history. Thank god for the internet and fan sites. First thing I purchased of theirs was the GH dvd. Watched it every night for 1 month straight -- SP’s singing and charisma got me hook-line-sinker. Proceeded to collect their and his entire cd & dvd catalog, plus all the boots and taped shows I could get my hands on. Their whole story unfolded in front of my eyes like a soap opera.

I do know a lot about them – only what is out there – by no means do I mean their personal/private lives. I lead a fulfilling, busy life of my own -- what with a business to run, hubby as a professor at the state university, and 3 fast-growing boys. So, no, I am not an obsessive fan or stalker. Just enjoy talk about them (mostly SP).

When the liberalization of the darts came. I still have the old school metal ones. Also, when horseshoes, then washers, and now bags became popular didn't help either.

Ross is NOT a dickhead! And I truly believe neither are Neal and Jon.

The only dickheads are just a handful of people on this board.

Maybe they got jammed in an eye or two then. It wouldn't have to be sharp for that.

We used to pretend they were spaceships and have battles with them. I was so pumped when I got the Space 1999 Eagle Freighter.

I don't care about the politics. I have never felt by buying their records the band owed anything. To me it's all about the music. To quote one of my other favourite band, " Its more than a feeling when I here that old song playing"

That pretty much sums it up for me. Journey songs have moved me likee no other band. I love other bands, but Journey are my band.

I've graduated to Bocce Ball. You can drink beer and smoke cigars without the chance of putting an eye out.
