This is a really blatant rip off.

Let it play, though, despite the urge to run screaming and cursing.
Its hilarious.

Wow, I never saw that before. Sure does sound very similar. I knew the Aerosmith cover though:

Wow, dude.

Then there's this:

Sam: "Ooohhhh, make me weeee-EEE-eeep... and you can make me cry..."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIPXfZc30_Y

Steve: "You make me weeee-EEE-eeep... annnnd wanna diiiiie..."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7jr9WBDVXQ

Almost the same beat, too.

Everything comes from something... Its all derived from one thing or another.. Steve didnt rip off anyone. He paid homage to his idols and influences like many other artists. We can thank god he did. The Sam Cooke influence is really a big part of how Steve sings and the application of that to modern rock (modern at the time) was obviously right as we all know...

This argument was going at work and a friend of mine, who is a musician, said nearly the same thing. It was something to the effect of how people are influenced by the music they hear from early childhood through adulthood, and you can't help but carry that with you, and those influences affect how you write or create music.

I never said he ripped anything off. I didn't name the thread.
I just pointed out the really interesting comparison. *I* think its cool.
I loved Sam's music before I ever knew who in hell Perry was, so I liked that he used that style.

Bluejean,

I wasnt trying to say that anyone was ripping off anyone.. I think that when something like this it brought up people might assume that it is being implied....

the new kid rock song 'all summer long' reminds me of warren zevon's 'werewolf in london' and skynyrds 'sweet home alabama' could just be me though.

That is the most obvious rip off of "Sweet Home Alabama". Kid Rock deserves a swift kick in the nads.

Agreed. I freaking hate that song. It's so blatantly unoriginal and annoying as hell.

Kid Rock has the musical talent of a chainsaw anyway.

It uses actual samples from both songs.

Kid Rock deserves a kick in the nuts anyway. He's a dirtbag. But this is just as good a reason as any.

Because he's a talentless HACK!!! He is a veritable funhouse of not-even-polished turds that he tries to pass off as music.

I've noticed that before... but only now, listening to them side-by-side do I realize exactly how blatantly those vermin (huh huh, get it, Papa Roach, vermin, huh huh.) ripped off the almighty Maiden!!!!!

He's deserved that for quite some time. He's probably got many pains down there anyway from on/off dating what's-her-name (y'know, Borat's intended bride) anyway. But still, several million swift kicks to the nads are surely in order. And you're not allowed to wear an athletic supporter either, Kid... that would just be cheating!!!

Indeed. You just reminded me... this girl I used to work with... wow... A couple girls wanted to sneak some wax strips onto her desk when she wasn't around, just to make the hint. It was scary! But she was a really nice chick, so they didn't do it.

I'm certainly not the biggest Kid Rock fan (I only own "Devil Without a Cause"), but I'll give the guy credit. Every review I've ever read says the guy puts on an amazing show and gives 100% each and every night. From the point of view of the musicians, you should appreciate the fact that he's trying to help everyone make more money by demonstrating that you can have a successful CD without having your songs on ITunes (which pay the musicians next to nothing).

He's also smart enough to try and show value in tough economic times, unlike most of his musical peers. For example:

http://www.antimusic.com/biz/08/KidRockDeliversMoreBangForFewerBucks.shtml

If you go to Best Buy, his CD is consistently $9.99, while all the others are at least $11.99 (after the first week, at least). I'm sure the record company didn't suggest that strategy.

At least the guy writes his own music. Yes, he samples Lynyrd Skynyrd and Warren Zevon, and gives them all full credit for it, but he also writes a ton of originals.

I think the guy's pretty savvy from the business point of view and knowing who is audience is.

Also, I love his PSA about downloading music...and he's completely on point, regardless of what you may think about downloading. Stealing is stealing is stealing. Again, he's looking out for the musicians.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpCADfZD-eg

Finally, as simple as some of his lyrics are, he makes some pretty good points in this song.

Rhi, you are the champ of interesting euphamisms. Keep me laughing! The song is annoying! I keep wanting to sing Wearwolves of London, then Darn it he sings and I have to turn the dial. Madonna uses the musical interlude by ABBA for their song "Gimme a man after midnight". It is annoying, too.[/b]

Lynyrd Skynyrd's Billy Powell plays the piano on the track "All summer Long". If he's okay with it to the point of participating, I have no problem with Kid rock doing a mashup with it.
