Pechanga Show...Not bad for a sick boy! Set list included.

At the end of the show, AP asked if you (us the crowd) liked the show. We (us the crowd) yelled our approval to which Arnel says,"Not bad for a sick boy." And we yelled even louder.

NO CT, No Heart, ALL JOURNEY. Bought at the vendor stand:1 signed copy, all 5 guys, of Revelation. I had to ask for a 2nd one because the 1st one was looking kind of raggedy. He then threw that 1st one to what looked like the double-check and clean up box. Unreal. Oh well.

It was my 3rd show. The 1st was the DVD filming at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. My wife and I made the DVD yes :) The 2nd show was Chula Vista(San Diego) the first show in California. The 3rd was this one, the show for California. Since it's only 1200 seats, every seat affords a good view and the acoustics are good.

Pechanga Casino in the city of Temecula. AP says it like this: Te-meh-koo-la. In actuality it's Te-meh-Q-lah. But no biggy, he can say Pechanga really well :D
It was a solid show, although I could tell that Arnel was straining a bit. It was prevelant on some of the soaring tenor notes. His vocal acrobatics, using basketball terminology, wasn't played at the soaring dunk heights. It was more a power layup move. High enough to dunk on some songs, where in others, he strictly settled for off-the-glass layups choosing the lower octave or harmonies that didn't take away from the melody. Deen was great in all of his leads and the rest of the band was solid. Jon, when playing rhythm guitar or harmonica, and Neal inter played a lot on stage. Lots of back to back moves(W2 might have a field day with that visual) and Ross looking rather 80's in his jean and Suit jacket combo.

Did AP's sickness lessen the impact of the band? Not really. The crowd was really into the concert at times throughout the show. Although I must say that this particular group of 1200 or so fans wasn't like the other 2 I was with. They were the typical greatest hits crowd that dance and sing the hits, but sit down and clap for the stuff they don't know well.

Oh well, I can say that there was a few of us diehards who made it a point to share with those around us those songs so they know at least where to start should they search for those songs.

Here is the setlist for the Pechanga show:
Never Walk Away
Only The Young
Majestic
Stone In Love
Ask The Lonely
Keep On Runnin' Deen

I had so much fun.

To the J-Boys:

Journey
SOLD OUT

October 1st 8PM »

Neal Schon – all guitars, backing vocals
Jonathan Cain – keyboards, backing vocals
Ross Valory – bass, backing vocals
Deen Castronovo – drums, percussion, backing vocals
Arnel Pineda – lead vocals

REVELATION should bookmark one of the most challenging chapters of Journey’s legendary career. Instead, the new album offers a lasting testament to Journey’s legacy, and a striking glimpse of their brilliant future.

The first album with lead vocalist Arnel Pineda, REVELATION is Journey running on no less than twelve cylinders, a fine-tuned offering that sounds every bit like a band hitting their stride. Yet Pineda hadn’t even joined the band when the album’s first songs were written in mid-2007, and founding guitarist Neal Schon is quick to admit, it wasn’t always easy to stay optimistic when the band wasn’t sure what the future held.

Pineda’s discovery is already etched into Journey’s lifelong musical history, as Schon scouted literally hundreds of singers via online video website YouTube before finding the band’s new frontman. “When I heard Arnel, I knew I had found our singer and immediately called management,” says Schon. “Next, I call Cain. And before we knew it, Arnel was on his way to the U.S. to audition. By the third day of full rehearsals with the band, it was a slam-dunk. Then, we proceeded into the studio where Arnel sang six Journey songs in one day. He sounded simply amazing. I looked at Cain and said, ‘there he is. This is our guy.’" Cain agreed.

Between the two of them, Schon and Cain penned all 11 of the new tracks on REVELATION. There is no lack of chemistry in Journey, beginning with the songwriting core of Schon and Cain. “I felt strongly about moving forward and writing new material. It was time,” Schon states. Schon then put the call into Cain and started the song writing process which has now become the album, REVELATION. “There’s an innate trust and respect for what we each do as we weave our way through this music,” says Cain. Schon adds, “In the alphabet, I might be a Z and Jonathan the A, that’s just how opposite we are musically sometimes. I write mostly rock and Jonathan writes most of the ballads, but when you combine the chemistry of us together, you’ll find that it is the nucleus and sound of what is and has been Journey. And now, with the right voice in place, we have all the right ingredients.”

My wife thinks it's cute and poufy.
She also wanted to say that the Anytime/Feelin' That Way performance is now officially added to her favorites list. Jon sings very well on that song.

Thanks T. You guys lucked out, that's a great setlist. I notice FITH is gone. FINALLY!

Only bad part unless I missed it is no WYLAW. AP is great on that.

the best version is captured version... and I still get goosebumps everytime I hear it on the radio...which anymore is few and far between.

Hey TTango! I'm headed back out to the scene of the DVD tonight! Headin' to Vegas baby for a much needed vacation. I couldn't catch my fat head in the DVD. I was probably out getting a drink! :)

I'm still debating whether to make the drive down to Laughlin. The couple we are going to Vegas with also went with the show in Council Bluffs. That was by far the best concert I have seen in years, but I'm not sure I can pull my buddy away from the sportsbook on a Sunday to drive down.

Like your B Ball analogy!

It's a tough call but I'll take our setlist that had WYLAW. Still they ride is a fave so I am jealous of that. Now if Arnel or Deen had done Stay Awhile I would have cried.

Love Deen's vocal tone and soul he puts into STR......and does it all with all 4 limps flying around playing drums too. Gives me goosebumps, I don't know if it's the actual song (love soaring vocals) or whether he's just THAT good on it.

I was there last night too. Also my third time (Chula Vista, Detroit, Pechanga). Your basketball analogy is right on. He made most of his shots. He just maybe didn't try as many hard ones as usual.
My favorite part was Jon and Neal playing the blues back and forth between harmonica and guitar which finally (but too soon) culminated in Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'. I've heard this done many times live, but this may have been the best.
Deen's great singing while playing is still unbelieveable!

You guys keep getting long sets!! I'm jealous. In Minneapolis I thought there would be a longer set in the absence of Heart but we got 90 minutes. No Deen singing at all, no Chain Reaction, etc. It was wayyy to short for me.

Agreed, WYLAW is so rarely played (til recently) that I was glad to hear it.

I Agree SC.

I'm not sure how the guys come up with their setlist but for this show, since AP wasn't 100%, they could have left some of the higher register songs like Stone In Love and Ask The Lonely and given us When You Love A Woman and say...The Girl Can't Help It. OR they could've given us After The Fall with Deen. ( I loved that at the Planet Hollywood show.)

For this crowd, those songs would've worked well enough. But that set was really nice and had AP been able to give us his all, it would've been spectacular instead of worked well enough.

Pechanga is a really nice venue! I saw Journey there twice with SA. Great shows! Hopefully they'll be back there next year.

I found 1 Pechanga Vid so far.
