I have always had a spot in my heart for many different kinds of music accept for new country music which makes puke pour from my ears so..

In the spirit of being 16 again I decided to give the new Metallica album a go.. Oh my god... Best songs they have written since And Justice For All. Inspired classic Metallica.

FUCKING RUINED by terrible demo quality production.. THe entire album is so distorted it causes ear fatigue. No shit..

So anyway there is a petition from fans for them to remix this as they should but in the meantime someone found that the album mix provided to the makers of Guitar Hero 3 did not suffer from the "Loudness Wars" as they are being called. There is a plague in the music industry at the moment to make music as loud as possible as to make it more noticeable. This KILLS any dynamics in the music dead..

Long story short if you like Metallica and you know where to look there is a fan remixed version that was taken from guitar hero that redeems the album. You can listen to it without it grating at your brain like a steel spike now..

NIght and day difference.. Since I bought the album I feel justified to download these tracks because as I see it (along with 16,000 others that have signed the petition) we were sold a defective product with no recourse.. You cant get a refund on music so you are stuck with one of the worst sounding recording ever released.. Luckily in the Guitar Hero rip each song is composed of six tracks being guitars, drums, vox etc all separate which give the individual that remixed it a lot of freedom on how loud certain elements are.. If you bought it you DESERVE to hear it like this as it saves the album..

Just an FYI for anyone that cares..

Amen to that brother.. I love the songs and it suffers from the same issues. Another victim of the loudness wars. Luckily Rush is a great live band so there are some better sounding live versions of some of the tunes from that album.. Love the title track. One of my favorite Rush songs of all time... RUINED by bad production.. I could do better. Put me at the desk and I will remix it in to a gem.

I bought the CD and couldn't believe the amount of distortion. Not just some crackles but when the band plays flat out even the cymbals are distorting like mad! Somehow, I really like the raw sound as it sounds powerful but Jesus, fix the damn distortion.

What is it with Metallica and piss poor production? "And Justice for All..." suffered from the same thing. That album would sound incredible if it were re-mixed.

I agree, Dave. That's always what turned me off of JUSTICE. And, consequently why I prefer LIGHTNING/

After listening to "And Justice For All" I wondered why they hired a bass player after Cliff passed as there appears to be no bass guitar audible on that record.
