One of the best concerts I've ever seen from a purely vocal standpoint was Elton John, but that was in the '90s. I saw a Billy Joel/Elton John concert once, but it was outside and I was disappointed because the sound at the venue wasn't very good. Everybody else thought it was great but me.

Best live Vocal performance I saw was George Michael in 1988, Japan ( yes, even better than Perry). Say what you want, the dude could flat out bring it when performing live.

I missed this tour before and would love to go, but both artists are waaaaaaaay past their primes and I won't pay more than 75 bucks to see them now

Neither of these songs are his but the vocals are very good, it's hard to find live appearances of his for some reason.

Huh? You mean Elton John and Billy Joel are two separate artists? I always considered Billy Joel an Elton John clone. They both sound the same and play the piano in the same style.

Mmmm.
I like Elton John a ton especially from The One on back, but I own a grand total of one (1) Billy Joel record (GH VIII) and haven't spun it in at LEAST 4 years.

With ya on that. Saw Elton John a couple years ago and it was a great show! He may not go for as many highs as he used to, but he puts on a great show and can still bring it vocally on most of those great oldies. :D Crocodile Rock had the whole place up dancin'! Never really had the desire to see Billy Joel.

Even if they are past their primes vocally, I still wanna see this. I really like both of them. Hope EJ is playing Funeral for a Friend this tour

I always thought Elton John was FAR more talented than Billy Joel. I consider Elton John to be a musical legend and don't put Joel on the same level. I also think Elton has more timeless music. Too much of Joel's stuff is cheesy 80's pop music. "Uptown Girl" is one of the absolute gayest songs I've ever heard in my life! It's worse than "Open Arms", and that's really saying something!

Great version... I remember the first time I heard that song. Some parts of the instrumental literally gave me chills. It's one of the best instrumentals I can think of that's just flat-out musical without going balls-to-the-wall with technical playing.

Agreed. I love a lot of Elton John's music, but I never could stand Billy Joel. There is not one song of his that I ever liked. He sounds like an Elton John wanne-be.

Yea, the church bells with the wind sound right at the beginning.
Crowd dead silent, at the risk of sounding gay, you really kinda feel like you're in a snow-covered English graveyard on a hill.

I think their styles are not the same at all.B J wrote a song for his daughter called Lullabye it was a beutifully written, well thought out song.plus he used to plug Christy Brinkley, that says something there

I agree, Steve. Other than that they both play what can loosely be called "piano-rock," I don't think there's much comparison overall. Songs like "I Go To Extremes," "Matter of Trust," "Allentown," and "We Didn't Start The Fire" really don't much resemble EJ at all, for instance.

I think that's the only reason he still tours with Joel. Joel hasn't given it up yet. As soon as he does, it's all over.
