love that one and i think its the best song off raised on radio.never could figure out why they didn't make it a single.that one and natural thing are so underrated.

I have to say... my absolute favorite song off of ROR is Why Can't This Night Go On Forever... one of those songs I wasn't immediately taken by... slowly but surely grew on me... and now I think it's one of the best Journey songs... EVER. But yeah, Happy To Give is a very close second, now that you mention it.

Fair enough. I've always got a soft spot for bittersweet songs, and this is one of my favourites. Just wish they'd left off the backing vocals - too 'it'll all turn out sweet' for me. Could lose the synth-horns too.

Guess I don't even need to try the link to youtube after this post. The album confirms it's no where near the top 50, IMO.

It's blasphemy for WCTNGOF to be on the same album as this. ROR needs to be buried in a hole at the Bottom of the Marianas Trench.

i couldn't stand the album for a lot of years including initially in '86 when i first bought it .i just felt it didn't rock enough and was way too poppy when i originally bought it.my first impression was it reminded me a bit of perry's street talk released a year or so before.even though they were more commercial as the years went on after cain joined for escape and frontiers even those albums had some pretty hard moments but as a whole the album raised on radio like i said was just a little too soft.but here lately twenty something years later it has grown on me and i think there are some really good songs there.i still don't like the album as well as the others but stuff like happy to give and why can't this night go on forever are among the best songs they ever did.

This is what was said about the song on TIME3:

Perry cut this number three times. "He was obsessed by that song," remembered Cain. "It was his pet song." Cain also thinks Perry gave the song his finest vocal performance. The track came from a "soundtrack-type" composition Cain had been working on under the influence of Vangelis that Perry nailed with a melody almost immediately on Cain playing it for him. "Of course, it was our lives we were writing about," said Cain. Never played live by the band, the track turned up years later on the sountrack to the film "North Shore."

emotionally beautiful....the only thing that could be better is when they have the synthesizer add more Neal Schon....he's the bridge missing there..
the soul that is/was Journey is all in Steve's voice....

I'd put ROR at number 3 behind Frontiers and Escape. Very good album and had Perry not fucked with the rockers to ballads to mid-tempos formula that they had it could have been so much better. But it only really had 1 rocker and I think that's why, relatively speaking, the fans rejected it.

True, I think Deen does a great job on it. Has the right soul/passion but IMO is missing a little of the power.
