Wow he won the 1 million peso showcase on that show. His manager and the zoo band cheered for him. Cherry(wearing purple blouse) and his son cherub was also there. His lucky streak goes on and on.

Arnel won a million Pesos? That is about 24 bucks and change, right? He might be able to enjoy a Grand Slam at Denny's and maybe, just maybe a carafe of OJ.

Pesos? Garbage. Shit money from a shithole country.

Journey's Pineda wins P1M 'deal'

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

By REYMA BUAN-DEVEZA, abs-cbnNEWS.com | 12/11/2008 6:56 PM

American popular rock band Journey’s new frontman Arnel Pineda won the P1 million prize in ABS-CBN’s hit game show “Deal or No Deal.”

Pineda was declared as the show’s 17th millionaire in the show hosted by Kris Aquino.

“Ayos naman, at least maraiming matutulungan. Marami ang nabigyan ng balato,” Pineda told abs-cbnNEWS.com in an interview.

Pineda said part of the prize will go to his foundation that aims to help streetchildren.

He also considered his winnings as an advance Christmas gift.

“Oo naman. It’s a very nice blessing. Hindi lahat doon nananalo kasi it’s a game of chance, a game of luck kasi talagang one in a million bago ka manalo,” he said.

During the game, the rock singer was accompanied by his loving wife Cherry Flores, his child and members of his former band The Zoo.

The singer said that he could not ask for more since God has showered him with so many blessings.

“Wala na akong wish Christmas wish, nag-the-thank you na lang sa mga blessing at sana ay health lang palagi,” he said.

Pineda who is in the country to take a short break is doing television guestings particularly on ABS-CBN shows.

Next year he is set to do an Asian tour concert with the rest of Journey band members.

Yeah dude, I kind of sort of knew that a million pesos was not 24 bucks and 73 cents, but that is called sarcasm. Still is shit money though. :P I guess what you are saying is instead of a Grand S;am at his local Denny's, he can rather purchase himself a used Subaru with bald tires. Oh that makes it a whole better.

1 million pesos is 20K USD. Not bad for his foundation, enough to feed hundreds of street children on christmas eve :D

LOL - I didn't see your post until after I posted that conversion rate. I had no idea how much 1,000,000 pesos was.

Let's please not do this... there were a lot of people hurt by things that were said on MR when Arnel was hired. It's taken a lot of time to turn that around.

I guess my question is, in a country awash in poverty, why was he even on this show? Shouldn't it have been A less fortunate person who had this opportunity? Arnel should have declined the invitation.

For DOND celebrity edition, there are variety of charity instututions they would choose to donate their winnings. In his case, must have chosen his own foundation.

Celebs go on these game shows over here in the States all the time to support and raise awareness for their favorite charity. It's evidently no different over there.

Can you edit your original post and include that part? it doesn't mention anything about celebrity edition. The original post makes it sound like he just went on a regular game show like any other common person.

I was about to say the same thing. With this being a celebrity edition, it's more understandable, but I thought all of the winnings usually go to charity?

For himself, or for his charity?

Could it be that Journey didn't pay him that well, and he actually needs the money himself?

That was a very hurtful comment. Are we at this again? Talking shit about people, culture, and country you've never been to? The first incident wasn't forgotten yet; just so you know.

Arnel won 21,000 dollars for his charity, on a celebrity edition of 'Deal or no Deal' (A Philippine game show).

Good for Arnel. Not too many people in this world in their first year with success and making some money would start a foundation like he did. Maybe some years later, not the first year. So I'm glad he won. I'm a softie regarding anything to help poverty-stricken children.

Maybe over there, since it's a third world country, 20,000 is like 70,000 here and will go a lot farther. 8) :

Edited.
