Arnel Solo Mini-Tour

PostPosted: Thu Dec 25, 2008 1:43 pm

Arnel is doing a 6 show tour with a fellow Pinoy by the name of Lani Misalucha. They are playing January 30th in Anaheim, Jabuary 31st in San Jose, February 1st in San Diego, February 6th in Chicago and February 8th in New Jersey. I spoke to him in the shout box and he said that he doesn't think he'll be playing any Journey songs, but he will be checking to see if he can do one if he so chooses. Just a little FYI. Merry Christmas, all! :)

He might as well do some of the older stuff. If Lani is promoting her new album, Then OLDER Journey music will probably fit right in.

Here is the track listing off her new album. A lot of familiar titles which isn't surprising as the album is called "Reminisce".

1. Here There And Everywhere

2. Someone That I Used To Love

3. We Could Have It All

4. Skyline Pigeon

5. I Loved You All The Way

6. Bridges

7. Love Of My Life

8. Dust In The Wind

9. Healing

10. Get Here

11. Where Is The Love/Feel Like Making Love Medley

12. Tin Man

13. Whispering Waves

14. Iisa Pa Lamang

So, as you guys are hanging out with your shoutbox buddies quite a bit now, have you and Tito enjoyed the experience of using the magic mic yet? :D

Tito is never in the SB and I am very seldom there. I happened to be there tonight and Arnel popped in. I had just heard about this mini-tour and asked him what they'd be playing. WTF is a magic mic? :?

I thought you guys had been going to Filipino parties with those dudes. The magic mic is a microphone with like a 1,000 songs in it on a microchip. you plug it into the tv and the video and lyrics for the songs show up. It's karaoke without the big ass laser disc machine or a ton of vcd discs to carry around. It's an instant party the size of a drumstick. Living in Japan for years, Karaoke singing was mandatory for getting laid with a lot of chicks. My voice isn't what it used to be though; drinking, cigarettes, bad pussy. I can relate to what Perry is going through now.

They took turns and it was all good. They were competing for high scores all night.

There is some thing in filipina women that makes them good singers. The Filipino guys all eat pussy so they can get this polynesian embryonic fluid that soothes the vocal cords to help them sing also. If you ever meet a filipino dude that can't sing, it means he doesn't eat pussy. If we could get Steve Perry drunk, we'll get one of those chicks to sit on his face and force feed him. Before long the dude will be singing like it's 1981 again.

If Neal says no, Arnel should call Steve and see if he can sing the Perry catalog. It would be like the 80's all over again. Journey gets great singer, singer does a solo album and tour.

MORE INFO ABOUT LANI AND ARNEL MINICONCERT FROM MUSIC MANAGEMENT INTERNATIONAL:hello! on behalf of AP management, I would like to apologize that everyone is in the dark with regards to these events. both AP and lani were invited to do a fundraising for Bantay Bata and the AP foundation to benefit the homeless, starving, abused children in the philippines. I don't think anyone is taking advantage of AP or journey. yes, of course, journey management granted permission and in fact they will also participate in a fundraising event on March when they visit the Philippines for the much-awaited concert. Proceeds go to the charity organizations and not the artists. Again this is a fundraising and not a business venture as you guys may have thought. Since everyone is still on their Christmas break and the series of shows in US were agreed upon at the last minute, we weren't able to provide the website with additional information. In the past, Nicole of the Pussycat Dolls and APL of Black Eyed Peas (both Filipinos) have participated to help out these charity organizations and their participation never posed a problem with their groups. We should be proud that both acts are very much willing to help out the less fortunate children.

Thanks for posting a confirmation that this is strictly a charity concert.

I am all in favor of bands/artists doing concerts for charity and definitely support them when I can. BUT....

It's the timing of this one that I question, particularly for someone who is very new to an established band and still establishing himself as Journey's lead singer to the Journey fans.

Hypothetically, I guess it would be OK if Neal and Jon did a charity concert next month for Jon's charities in Asia as long as it's in conjunction with another band. Hypothetically, the tour would include a stop in Manila for those non-Pinoys who are currently stationed in the area or working on contract? You don't think that would raise some eyebrows and contribute to the rumors that are already flying?

Arnel had been a recording artist, and a live performer, for quite some time prior (and right up) to joining Journey.
Rumor is, his contract with Journey allows for stuff like this and interviews with the press are a much more sensitive matter.

I wonder if Arnel has been writing during his time off. He can not seriously want to continue on being known as a great Perry inpersonator. Show us you can be original and not just a great imitator, give us a sign that you're ready to contribute to the group's legacy. Bring it dude. We know Revelation was pretty much written before you came on board, so this time is your moment to show you got talent and can do more than just sing.

So rumor has it, he's allowed to do this based on his contract and not necessarily with the blessings of the band?

I've listened to a lot of AP's pre Journey recordings. Not exactly my cup of tea, but they still showcase his talent.

From what I read somewhere on his site by him, Arnel said they were going to start working on the next album in the fall of 2009. So he would be contributing to that process, and I guess it's just a wait and see on how he gels with Neal and Jon in writing music that is used on the next album.

Hypothetically, the tour would include a stop in Manila for those non-Pinoys who are currently stationed in the area or working on contract? You don't think that would raise some eyebrows and contribute to the rumors that are already flying?

I wonder if Arnel has been writing during his time off. He can not seriously want to continue on being known as a great Perry inpersonator. Show us you can be original and not just a great imitator, give us a sign that you're ready to contribute to the group's legacy. Bring it dude. We know Revelation was pretty much written before you came on board, so this time is your moment to show you got talent and can do more than just sing.

From what I read somewhere on his site by him, Arnel said they were going to start working on the next album in the fall of 2009. So he would be contributing to that process, and I guess it's just a wait and see on how he gels with Neal and Jon in writing music that is used on the next album.

I'm rather curious to see how the songwriting will develop. I thought that the reason they fired JSS was that,
despite being a phenomenal singer, when they started writing songs together it didn't sound like Journey. If
they haven't written anything with Arnel yet, what happens when they start to write only to find out then that
something is missing?

Should you have any concerns or queries, please email me at rhiza@musicmgmt.com.

Thanks for posting a confirmation that this is strictly a charity concert.

I am all in favor of bands/artists doing concerts for charity and definitely support them when I can. BUT....

Something has been missing in their song writing since 96.

See, this is what I always talked about Augeri doing. Throw a solo album out there, do some duets, hit a movie soundtrack...not to compete with Journey but to get his name and voice out there. It would have done nothing but promote Journey. Glad to see AP doing this.

LOL...Arnel popped into the shout box and said that he'll be beginning his gym and vocal regimen this week for the upcoming tour and that it will kick off in the Phillipines in March. That's really what I was referring to. :)

Don't hold your breath...
Fans were teased with claims of the Augeri lineup "creatively gelling" throughout its tenure.
When the band finally released a follow-up to 'Arrival', they phoned it in.
It was clear everyone had been doing their own separate thing.
The impetus for the album was a bunch of Augeri solo songs and it "wasn't until the last moment of doing this record that [Cain] came in - literally into the studio with a few masterpieces."
Since reforming in 98, the musical shoulder work has been handled mainly by Cain/Schon.
I don't see that changing in the future, despite whatever Neal lies about.

As for JSS..."Believe in Me" and "Coming Home" are plenty proof enough that songwriting was not the cause of his downfall.

I just keep picturing the scene in RockStar where "Chrizzy" came into the studio in his Batmobile, all psyched up about writing songs over their break, and the band leader (don't remember his name) simply said "I write all the songs for this band" and just shut him right down. It was the beginning of the end for him, IMO.

I can definitely see Jon Cain doing that very thing.
