Hi Guys,

Confirmed in local press today that Jouney are special guests to Whitesnake and Def Leppard with support from Tesla,
over here in Ireland on 12th June, tickets go on sale next Friday.

Nearly a year to the day when they played Ireland for the first time. What a night its gonna be.

I cannot wait. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

So Journey and Tesla are opening for the other two or will they be perfoming together, mixing it up onstage?

If Neal wants to rock harder on the next album, maybe he's hoping to prep audiences for the new Journey sound.

No more ballads. This is a new direction I can get behind. Forget about the money, quit playing 80's retreads and start rocking out. Make a new identity fo the band and say goodbye to Mr Perry's shadow finally.

Of course I'm talking out of my ass and this ain't gonna happen.

Hmm interesting. On the face of it, it looks slightly crap, Journey opening for WS. However if it to test out the audience on some new harder material then I'm all for it.

So Leppard's the Headliner. I should have figured.

Death Angel (an asian american band) did well when they entered the Heavy Meal scene with a lot of exposure on MTV. It would be great to see them do something with Journey.

The funny thing is JSS would have been the voice to go in a harder direction. Who really know's what these guys think anymore.

So it looks like a U.S. tour in July then, finishing up in late August or early September (since we know that AP is more a warm weather singer and needs to be shuttered during the winter months)

Here may be an opportunity for AP to shine. Ok, so we all know he can emulate SP, but I've seen and heard evidence to support that he has a completely different hard rock voice that he can chameleon into at will, and it's good!

That's just it, he will sing with his regular voice which should be a good thing. AP being 42 is going to go though some vocal changes over the next few years. Every one talking about the poor quality of a 45 year old Perry singing voice during his FTLOSM tour will be getting Deja Vu if Arnel has to keep on belting out "Faithfully" and "Open Arms" the next few years. It doesn't matter how well he takes care of it, a natural change of tenor can't be stopped. He will be compared to 25 year old recordings just like Perry was, even though it's unfair.

   As long as Cain is sitting at that keyboard, you can bet your ass there will be too many ballads. The days of him "allowing" Neal to change direction (think Red13) are over. Cain claimed they had their asses handed to them on that one, so I'd say the dirty dozen and a couple current tunes are about all you can expect.

These guys are in the twilight of their careers, nomatter who (or what age) their flavor of the month singer ends up being. They could tour till they are 80 and won't get out of Perry's shadow. His stamp is indelible on the band name and those songs.

I don't see how anybody can go see them do performances the quality of the Super Bowl pre-show and enjoy it. They should have hung it up by now. Once they turned into Filipino Journey....they lost me. It's just bizarre. I wish they would have continued on with Soto, if they still felt like cranking out new music. At least he would have the balls to push them and not let them stagnate.

Once they turned into Filipino Journey...they lost you? Wow, just wow! Hate Filipinos much? That's pretty sad, man.

Frankly this 50 year old is enjoying them as much as ever. Get to a real concert and forget about what happened at Super Bowl.

He didn't say that, don't start talking that shit. Ballads equate to Filipino music, and Cain is a ballad kind of guy. I lived there long enough to now that there stuck in the 70's music wise with all there covers of soft pop littering the airways. Not exactly hard rockers.

C'mon, who would not read that as a slam on Filipinos? Before anyone thinks I'm a Filipino and that's why my feathers are up, I'll state that I am not. I'm a white American. Maybe EightyRock could have worded that differently and gotten the point across. I sure took it wrong, if you say that he didn't mean it that way.

They don't do shows the quality of the Super Bowl. That one and the Chile show were their two weakest outings. You can't slam a band for live performances, when you haven't been to one.

Steve 777, man, chill the hell out. I don't think Arnel was the right choice for frontman. That's my opinion. You don't have to like it or agree with it. If anybody wants to think I dislike Filipinos because I don't like one as a frontman for my once-favorite band, then WORK OUT. Some people (like Gunbot, obviously) get it. Some others never will.

I've got live DVD's and the quality of the performances are shitty. I wouldn't waste cash on going somewhere to see that live. I'm tired of the dirty dozen and I don't like much of Revelation. How many times can you go hear some wierd-ass version of DSB and enjoy it, unless you are wasted? Waste of time, cash and braincells.

I've seen Journey with Augeri, Soto, and Arnel. In my opinion, Arnel blew them all away in all categories, including showmanship and energy. I'm really digging what he's brought to the table, vocal wise, and I think the performances have been anything but shitty.

Just remember that we've got our wigglers, our Sototarians, our spoons and our members of AA (Arnel's army). This isn't a fan site for one individual, everybody gets a free say which makes this place rock.

Wow Journey is the opening act/special guest??? lol. I dont think I have ever seen them as an opening act. I always thought Journey was alot bigger overseas than that. Heck they sold 47 million in the states alone, and 30 million more worldwide. Journey has still outsold whitesnake and def leppard as far as record sales, so why are they the opening act??? I guess I always thought the headliner was determined by the most successful and popular artist.

Almost all of Journey's overseas sales were Asian based during their hey day.
As far as opening, the first time I saw Journey, they and Foreigner were opening for the Stones, and Escape just went to number one on the charts, so numbers don't always matter. Look at Bon Jovi, they have only sold around half of what Journey has and they still play stadiums after 20 years and will not open for anybody.
The fact that the other two bands are local UK bands and hard rock (and have their original singers who people know) probably has something to do with it also. As far as popularity, Journey hasn't sold a million albums since "Trial By Fire". Their total record sales are based mostly off their albums from the eighties and don't mean anything when it comes to who is opening and closing now, especially in Europe.
As for Def Leppard, despite low record sales, they are still a high profile band as evidenced by their stint on "Dancing with the Stars". Journey can headline in the States and Asia but in Europe, their soft rock doesn't sell well. Their biggest hit was DSB. Open arms and Faithfully never even had a chance. Too soft.

Thanks gunbot. Didnt realize most of their record sales outside the United States were Asian based. I just never knew that whitesnake was so popular worldwide, because in the United States many people have not even heard of them. Journey actually did sell a million units with their new album Revelation I believe.

If one million people bought Revelation, it would be double platinum. Remember each package counts as two. Walmart took a 5 dollar loss per package to get people into the store. All they care about is how many individuals came into the store to try and buy it. I doubt they'll do another package deal with Journey. Revelation was a loss leader like the other exclusive releases Walmart does. It loses money but gets people in the door to hopefully buy other products to make up for it. Walmart has only done one package for each artist, and Reo Speedwagon along with Journey probably sold the least While the Eagles, Garth Brooks, and AC/DC did a lot better. The problem with this kind of promotion is it's a one and done deal. Walmart doesn't have to keep the record in stock after the initial run because the customers have been already introduced to the store now.
They are not like Sony or Warner who will keep printing your record making it go multi-platinum. Once Walmart has the initial launch out of the way, your record is toast, and Walmart moves on to the next artist. Only two percent of Walmarts business is centered around music. They have hinted before about stopping the sales of music all together in their stores, it's not a big deal to them.
Journey needs to find a way to get their next release on Itunes or Amazon. Being Walmart exclusive hurt them when people were looking for their music after the SuperBowl Performance. Sony benefited more by having their Journey catalog easily accessable on itunes and the original version of DSB climbed back up the charts a little because of it.
As far as WhiteSnake goes, I don't know where you were in the Eighties but WhiteSnake was a huge act and all over MTV. They, along with Bon Jovi, Poison, and other hairbands were the ones that knocked Journey out of the game after 1986.

Of course, you go one direction towards being more pop while every one is else is going the other direction and trying to sound harder, you lose. Of course 4 years later grunge came and killed the hairbands anyway. Natural evolution in the music industry I guess.

I just don't agree with people that think Walmart will do another package deal with them, and that they'll do better than Revelation on the next album. The next album might be a better record but it's not about about quality, it's about marketing and the stars really aligned for Journey on their last release. This time they lose the appeal of Arnel's story which has been already told. It will be interesting to see if they even try to push another album or just cut something and throw it out there.

Problem is that radio is basically TELLING people what to listen to. Along with MTV. People are being told what is cool, instead of making their own choices....
