Does Phish do this? I heard about some group taping each show through the soundboard, and then selling it at the conclusion of the concert. Anybody more knowledgable about this?

I think this is a STELLAR idea.....and I think it was Phish, because I remember that they switched up their set EVERY night. So if you wanted to hear all the songs, you went to every show, and got every live Boot.

The Who has been doing it for years. This is the site they (and a few others) do it through... http://www.themusic.com/

I have the CD/DVD of the show I went to in 2006.

I tried to buy an old one from '02 but it was no longer available.
I didn't know about it at the time though.
It was a major show in the band's history and I was there... but I can't get the recording or DVD.

Bands that do the boots as you leave the venue typically use USB keys. This is what I'm familiar with anyway.

Yep; 3 Doors Down did this; pay for it & pick it up at the end of the show -- flash drive embedded in a rubber wrist band thingy. Audio only, though.

Well, as someone who is in this type of industry, I can tell ya, it's expensive for one. And the logistics of it are quite complicated.

please...... they have a sub mix guy who is handling the digital recording to hard drive, a quick mix and it's either burnt to cd's or flash drives. The technology is very easy and not expensive at all.

Oh, right, well... do you know how long it takes to burn a few thousand discs? And you can't burn them until AFTER the show. Duplicating the USBs take a little less time. So if you want to be able to mass produce the media to sell to fans on-site right after the show you have to be set up with either large tower duplicators or Key duplicators. It adds up. The Key dupers we have in our office were special order from Europe and are close to $10k each and will only produce 20 per run. I know what I'm talking about. Good day to you.

Stockton, several bands do this including Metallica (available off the web a few days later) KISS, available right after the show, etc. I think it's the best idea anyone has had. It totally torpedos the bootleggers. I wish Journey would do it, but they don't, so I'm forced to seek other means to preserve a show, as I've done for 25 years and 100's of bands. But yeah, I'd MUCH prefer a band sell boots off the board than have a crappy audio that I made.............

There was a lot of talk about this a couple years ago and Neal even mentioned looking into it once. There have been a few bands to provide as you leave the arena and many more that offer them a few days later on their site. I LOVE the idea. I managed to find a boot of an Evanescence show I took my daughter to. Downloaded it and burned it to a printable disc. Put a picture I took from the show on the disc, dated it...made for a very cool souvenir.

I agree that it would be a great item to get after ur favorite concert. Saw Journey at St Louis last year and would love a copy of that show. It was awesome

Mmm, it would make more sense to sell the USB keys pre-loaded with a web address and a single-use code so you then download the concert yourself. Maybe have extra stuff like concert pics on the key.

Now that's an EXCELLENT idea.

Journey doesn't do it because they don't want to let the fans know that Arnel can't hit the high notes like Steve Perry and he's a mediocre vocalist.

It would be easy for Journey ,all the background vocals are canned {except Deens}They would just have to mix his and Arnels voice in there, Friga plays the same leads anyway

You are right,Phish did do this,so did the Dead and Paear Jam.
I believe you have to order the Cd of the show and pay for it and then they ship it to you.
