If his voice sounds like this on the new album, I'll be thrilled. I'm betting on a lot of music like this on it.
There's roughly fourteen years between now and then. Perry sounded substantially weaker on TBF than FtLoSM. He won't sound the same.
But you have to realize that he will have had help since then. Medical technology, my friend. Watch and see.
I postulated about the possibility of him undergoing surgery, maybe because you brought it up, and all of the 'talk' about him sounding better than he has in 20 some-odd years.
You are obviously alluding to some type of cold knife-type corrective surgery or something of that ilk. Personally, I have been hoping for years that SP would look into such a thing as to my ears, he had classic symptoms of vocal nodules.
What I question is that, with SP seemingly being an intensely private guy, why would he let something like that leak out to anyone, especially YOUR supposed contact?
If anything, a polyp, not a nodule as you said. Nodules are pretty rare in grown males. If Perry got some sort of polyp, without treating it with vocal rest (let's say he didn't), then it's pretty likely that scar tissue could evolved after bleeding on the vocal cords which could come as a effect of overstressing the vocalcords. So surgery ain't some magic pill, as scar tissue is practicly impossible to remove, and even without any scar tissue, some kind of microlaryngial surgery wouldn't be able to restore a voice like Perry's. If he did have a polyp at any time then he most likely was just told to rest his voice over a long period of time, and we all know how impatient Neal can be!
