I found a box today that contains about 300 CDs my ex and I packed away when we moved because we didn't have room on the racks any more, and I've been sorting through them, working out what is mine and what I need to return to him. I'm astonished what by what is in there, and have two lots of 'wtf was I thinking' - CDs that I have no idea why I stopped listening to them, and CDs that I think 'why on earth did I ever buy this in the first place?' (although there are more of those in the pile I need to return to my ex ) It's not albums I took a chance on that turned out to be shit, it's the ones that I cannot think why I ever bought them in the first place.

So there's my question - what are the albums in your collection that you look at today and think "what on earth possessed me to spend good money on that?"

Also, it my hair metal days of high school, I went and bought Madonna's Like A Prayer cd.

I'm a big fan of K.C., actually. Hoping to see a show this year.

I also own Barry Manilow and Bee Gees CDs that I listen to regularly so maybe I shouldn't be in this thread?

Catch the Rainbow - A Tribute to Rainbow....although not horrible this CD just makes me shake my head.
Radioactive - Yeah...with contributing members like: Matti Alfonzetti, Steve Overland, Fergie Frederiksen, and Tommy Denander I thought it would be decent - It wasn't...

But I don't keep my CDs on shelves - the house can barely hold shelf space for all my books as it is! CDs have to be stored in a more space efficient way, so racks it it. And like Stevie-Woo needs an excuse (or you for that matter )

Regarding KC & The Sunshine Band - they have a few (a very few) tracks I like but not one of them on this CD. No idea why I ever bought it in the first place. I have some vague memory of needing to fill up a catalogue order and this was the least offensive.

As for the BeeGees - done some decent stuff over the years; I have some very early stuff of theirs, recorded when they were still living in Australia. But karaoke???

A slight variation of this is, ever bought an album simply because of one song, and the rest of the album totally sucked? Talk about disappointment. I think we've all done this.

Merrill Bainbringe (don't recall the title, but it doesn't matter), and I'm pretty sure there's a Kenngy G CD around here somewhere.

EDITING BACK ON-TOPIC: My purchase? the "Quest for Camelot" CD - just for "I Stand Alone".

Give 'em enough rope - The Clash. Everyone told me how great they were so I bought this album. Played it and thought it was beyond dreadful. Why the hell did I buy it?:roll:

Also, recently bought Rockferry by Duffy and I hate it. I find her voice to be very shrill and I don't like the tonal quality of it at all. It's gone to the charity shop so someone else can have it. Why did I buy it? I thought Mercy was a catchy tune, but instead of her voice growing on me, it grated on me. It had to go.

Grace - Jeff Buckley. I can see that he has a good voice, but oh my goodness.........I found it so maudlin that I went into a deep depression and wanted to slit my wrists. That went to the charity shop too.

And Last Of The Rock Stars by Ronnie Spector. It was hailed as a long awaited comeback album so I got it. I liked her voice back in the day and I had recently read her autobiography so I shelled out my hard earned pounds.
What a disappointment. All I Want is the only decent track on it IMO. The band are fantastic but her vibrato is so overemphasised that she sounds like an elderly lady who has had way too much sherry singing on a karaoke night at the local senior citizens home.

Most of my bad purchases are at the annual music festival here. Some really interesting world music, but you tend to get caught up in the moment of live music, summer heat and a few drinks - and then visit the CD tent and spend $15 per CD on absolute crap. I think have at least 5 or 6 of those that I've never listened to the whole way through .

I absolutely love this song off the CD. I also love Breathe. I'm enjoying this CD. I like the mood. But his vocals are definitely thinner on the songs now. He used to have a richer tone.

I'll give it another shot. I noticed a few ballads near the end that I liked. But it really starts off weak for me, and with no hooks or nothing worth singing along to. Two or 3 spins didn't change much for me, but I'll listen again.

It's not for everybody. That's for sure. But it doesn't have any hooks, definitely. It's received some bad reviews.
